Leadership is a long and winding road.

Leadership is a long and winding road.

The trip can be lonely even though you may travel with many.

Leadership takes courage, because not everyone is going to agree with you.

Leadership takes courage, because some may actually oppose you.

Leadership takes courage, because some may actually despise or be jealous of you.

Leadership takes courage, because you are trying to create a new reality.

Leadership takes courage, because you will have to serve and protect your flock.

Leadership is a long and winding road.

The trip can be lonely even though you may travel with many.

But, Leadership is worth it.

Leadership is a long and winding road.

The trip can be lonely even though you may travel with many.

Leadership takes vision because you have to know where you want to go.

Leadership takes action because you have to actually try to get where you want to go.

Leadership takes boldness because people may watch you before they join you.

Leadership takes patience because you have to wait for people to see what you see.

Leadership takes wisdom because you will have to teach those that travel with you.

Leadership takes humility, because you will have to learn from those that travel with you.

Leadership is a long and winding road.

The trip can be lonely even though you may travel with many.

But, Leadership is worth it.

Leadership is a long and winding road.

The trip can be lonely even though you may travel with many.

Leadership takes time, but if you build it they will come.

Leadership takes time, but good things take time.

Leadership takes time, because not everyone thinks the same way.

Leadership takes time, but if it were easy everyone would do it.

Leadership is a long and winding road.

The trip can be lonely even though you may travel with many.

But, Leadership is worth it.

I need more patience.

I get to angry sometimes.  I am just admitting it to the world.  I am standing up and admitting my faults.  I get angry about certain things, I am not making excuses; I am speaking the truth as a Leader in training and trying to get better.

First, I get angry when I catch people in lies and they refuse to tell the truth.  On the same token, I get angry when people continue to fall into the same traps over and over again, and then complain about it.  If I catch you in a lie; just admit that you lied and let’s move on.  No I will never trust you on the same level if you lie and lie and get caught and repeat the same patterns over and over.  Find someone else to lie to, it won’t be me

On the same token, how many times can people fall for the “Boy who cried wolf?”   How many times can you let people lie to you, and lead you into traps?  Sorry, I do not have the patience I should have at these times.  I am working on it.  For now I am coming clean about what makes me angry.

I get angry sometimes when people try dump their problems on me, but they do not want to hear answers.  They do not want to talk through their problems; they just want to wallow in them.  I am sorry.  I have more than my share of problems; do you see room on my plate for yours?  I am not trying to be a prick, I am just trying to tell you not everyone can help everyone.  Let’s say it is winter in Michigan and you want to go skiing, and I want to go to Florida.  See in this case we are heading in different directions and the most honest thing I can tell you is that I can not help you.  Now let’s say you want to go to Florida also, but you don’t have the money.  Now if I tell you, I don’t have the money either, but I will help you raise the money; will you help yourself so that I can help you also?  If you won’t help yourself, how am I supposed to help you???  I am not trying to be a jerk.  I am just saying, I help when I can, as much as I can; but I can not help people who have not thought out their problems and just want a pity party or a hand out.

So what else makes me angry?  When people repeatedly put words in my mouth or will not find out the truth for themselves.  If I say Red Car and you say I said Blue Boat, we have Communication problems.  If you say I said Blue Boat and I did not say anything, than we got even bigger problems.  If someone tells you I said Blue Boat, come to me and ask me if I said Blue Boat, so we can confront the person who is speaking for me.  See I think people should spend less time spreading rumors and spend more time finding out the truth for themselves.  If you catch me spreading rumors, confront me.  If someone says I said something, ask me to my face… better yet; ask when all of us are in the room together, and let’s get to the truth.

Now I will say again, I have issues.  I need more patience.  I should not let things get to me and make me angry, so I am just coming clean.  I stand up for the truth.  I try to help people who have though through their problems and are heading in a similar direction I am heading.  If I am not heading the same place you are heading, the best thing I can do is tell you the truth, and not get in your way.

See I live by a pretty simple creed.  If you are happy, I am happy for you; as long as your happiness is not stomping all over my happiness.  If you are not breaking any laws and putting people in danger, I am going to stay out of your business; so if we are not working together on something I ask people to stay out of my business.  Does that sound mean?  Now if we are working together, let’s work together.  Let’s help each other.  Let’s tell each other the truth and provide each other with the best possible information and advice we can find.  Let’s pull the rope together.

You have to be in it to win it.

You have to be in it to win it, so to win it you have to be in it!  Some people tune out.  Some people go with the flow.  Some people just sit on the sideline and watch.  Other people are cheerleaders and super fans.  Some people are coaches, mentors and others are trainees.  Some people are in it to have fun.  Others are in it to win it.  Well do you think winning is not fun?  I am not talking about win at all cost winning, I am talking about working hard and having fun and winning the right way.

OK, I have gone round and round and what do I mean?  Winning is work, but winning is fun.  To win you have to practice and prepare and strategize and you have to participate.  Hundreds and Thousands of people may watch, but you have to be in it to really win it.  You have to participate; you have to be a part of the action.  To win it, you have to be in it.  You can not just watch from the side lines.

Do I have a point?  I don’t know; maybe, sure, why not. Work hard, and do it the right way.  I am not talking about cheating; I am not talking about winning at all cost.  You can have fun.  You can work hard.  You can learn along the way.  Winning is fun.  Every heard the saying, “To the victors go the spoils?”  Do you not want the spoils?

Now you may think I am talking about football, or baseball or some other sporting event, but I am talking about your life.  Do you just go with the flow?  Do you just tolerate a lot of situations?  Or do you lead your life.  Are you living the life you want to be living?  You have to be in it to win it.  Participate.  Make up your mind to chase your dreams, and then work at it.  Break down you dreams into goals and then use a system of rewards to reach a series of milestones along the way.  Be in it to win it!

OK, let’s start all over.  What is your dream?  What can you do to reach your dream?  What habits can you form that will help you reach your dream?  What step can to take to reach your dream?  What goals can you set?  What milestones can you check off?  Are you doing those things?  Are you in it to win it, or are you just going with the flow?

To win it you have to be in it. You have to be a part of the action.  You have to participate.  Only you can take charge of your life.  The world is not going to hand you your dreams on a silver platter.  If it was it would have happened by now, wouldn’t it?  Get off the sideline.  You can do this.  You can be in it to win it.  You can get off the bench and into the game.  You can reach you goals, and you can chase your dreams.

You can not be a cheerleader in your own life.  You have to be in the game.  You have to want to win, and have fun along the way.  Start today.  Start now.  Just get started.

The time is now!

The time is now, the time is right now.  It is hard to get started, it is hard to restart; but the time to do it is now.  Everyone is going through something; each and every one of us is going through something.  It takes guts to reach down inside of you and make a change.  So we have to make up your mind to make the change.  Don’t wait, do it now.

The time is now, the time is right now.  Make up your mind right now; take a vow to start today.  Make up your mind before you go to bed tonight that the time is now.  Tomorrow starts today.  Yesterday is gone.  Yesterday is a memory and a lesson, but the future starts right now.  Make your future, change your future but start today.  Make today better than yesterday and make tomorrow better than today.

Yes it can be scary, yes it can be hard; but it is worth it.  It is worth it so start today.  It is worth it so make up your mind; believe you can make a difference.  You have to believe you can change and the time is now.  Now is the time!  The time is now.

Now is always the time to stand up and do the right thing.  Now is the time to stand up for what you believe.  Now is the time to practice what you preach.  Now is the time to practice and get better at what you do.  No is the time to take a mentor.  Now is the time to be a coach.  Now is the time to read up on your favorite subject or your favorite hobby.  Now is the time to take a class or start a business.  Now is the time to chase your dream.

Make up your mind and get started today.  Tomorrow starts now.  Don’t chase tomorrow, don’t make promises against tomorrow; start today.  What do you have to lose?  Your pride, is that what you are worrying about losing?  What is more important, your pride or your legacy?  What kind of legacy are your going to leave if you continue to wait until tomorrow?

Today can be your day but you have to seize this day.  Leave you mark on every day.  Find the biggest hill and climb it.  Find the biggest tree and chop it done.  One step at a time, climb that hill.  One swing of the ax at a time, chop down that tree.  Once you are done you will see a new sunrise with a better view because the time is now.  The time is always right now!

Now is the time.  Now is your time.  This is your time, so start today.  Start now, start right now; you can do this, the only thing stopping you is yourself.  So make up your mind, make a vow and stand on it.  Say it!  “I can do this!”  Say it out loud.  Say it today.  Say it tomorrow.  Say it everyday.  Say it out loud everyday.  “Today is my day!”

The time is now!

So people plan and some people complain.

How many people do you know who are always talking about the things they have to do?  How many people do you know who are always doing things?  Do you notice the difference?  Talking about doing is not doing.  Doing is not talking about doing.  Planning leads to doing.  Talking about doing leads to complaining.

Birds of a feather flock together.  For this example, there will two kinds of people.  Planners and Complainers; the planners plan and the complainer talk about all the things they have to get done.  So the planners break out the calendar and find time to do the things they are planning to do.  The complainers never have time to do anything but they never seem to be doing what they want to do.  The planners take time to set goals and break down their plan.  The complainers just seem to go with the flow until a fire comes along and then they are rushing to put out the fires.  Planners plan their work and work their plans.  Complainers seem to rush from fire to fire.

So which flock is your flock?  Are you a planner or a complainer?  Do you plan your work or do you complain about how busy you are?  Do you put out fires before they happen or are you always running from fire to fire?  Are you a fire preventer or a fire fighter?  See planners work on fire prevention.  Ever heard the term; “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure?”  Planners are focused on prevention, complainers are focused on cures.  Planners get more done because they work their plan and they track their goals.  Complainers complain because they do not have a plan so most of their time is spent fighting fires.  Be careful who you spend your time around.  Misery loves company.

Remember, “Failure to plan is planning to fail.”  Ever heard that one?  I have tons of those clichés.  I can spout them all day.  Listen closely to the company you keep.  Do things get planned and done?  Do thing get talked about and talked about and talked about?  Are you noticing the pattern?  Planners get things done, complainers complain.

Listen, it is ok to vent when things go wrong, but get back to the plan.  Get back to the plan and if you don’t have a plan; then get a plan!  Remember, it is ok to vent, but then get back to the plan.  Do not spend more than Ten Percent of your time complaining.  Spend twenty percent of your time planning, and then spend seventy percent of your time working your plan!  Do not let your time be spent complaining about the things that never seem to get done, get out there and get things done.  Work your plan, and if you don’t have a plan; get a plan!  Get a plan! Get a plan!  Get a plan and work your plan.

To love what you do, you have to do what you love.

Do you love your job?  Do you love what you are doing to make a living? Is your current job, your dream job?  I am betting that most of us, have forgotten about our dreams and we do what we feel we have to do to make a living.  I am betting we get paid for doing something that we tolerant, to make the money to spend on doing the things we love.  We love or hobbies, but do we love our job?  To love that you do, you have to do what you love.

This is simple and it is hard.  It may be the hardest thing you ever do.  I am asking you to look in the mirror and remember the dream you had before you had to work for a living.  Remember the dream you had, before you had monthly bills?  Do you remember the dream you had when you were a kid?  Before you moved out on your own?  I am asking you to remember your childhood dreams.  It is this simple.  You have to believe you can take your hobby and find a way to make money doing what you love instead of spending money doing what you love.  Is it really that hard?  What ever it is you love to do, can you find a way to teach it?  Can you find a way to coach others? Can you find a way to share your talents with the world?  Even if you do not make enough to quit your day job can you make enough to break even or make a little on the side in your spare time?

Tell me why you can’t?  Now I will tell you why you can.  You are already spending you spare time and spare money doing what you love aren’t you?  It is ok to have a hobby.  It relaxes your mind and it gives you something to do, something to continue to grow into.  You will give that little extra if you love what you are doing.  You will feel a bigger and better sense of accomplishment if you love what you are doing.  So I ask you, why are you not doing what you love to do?  Why would you let someone tell you it is an all or nothing deal?

Let say you love playing softball, and you join a league.  What will that cost you?  Now what will it cost you to coach some kids, or referee for a youth league?  You may actually make a few dollars to cover the cost of the league you are playing in…  Maybe you may not be a Professional Baseball Player, but you can do something to help others chase their dreams and cover the cost of living yours.

You have to love what you do.  So you have to do what you love to do.  Even if it is only 15 minutes a day, or one day a week, or even only one day a month.  It is great to have an outlet that is positive, so why not help others, and help yourself?  Why not lower the cost of doing what you love to do, and maybe help other people get better in areas you have common goals and common ground?    Do what you love.  To love what you do you have to do what you love.

You can not live out other people’s dreams.  You have to adjust your dreams to play a bigger part of your life.  No one can do it for you.  No one can do it for me.  We have to do it for ourselves.  We have to chase our dreams, even if it is only one day out of the month, it will make a different.  It gives you a day on the calendar, it give you an “X” to look forward to while you are working that day job.  It gives you a network of people with whom you can find common ground.  Do what you love to do.  Find a way to make a little spare change in your spare time.  You may bring positive change into the lives of the people you coach or mentor!

I just want to be me.

I am Joseph Luellen III.  I have done good things and I have done bad things.  I want to do more good things.  I have made my mistakes and I have learned lessons.  I want to learn more lessons.  I have been a leader and I have been a follower.  Now I just want to chase my dreams and help others chase their dreams along the way.  If I can help people I will, and if people choose to follow; that is cool also.  I just want to be the best Joseph Luellen III that I can be.

I have made mistakes, and I am sorry.  I have hurt people and I am sorry.  I am trying to learn how to get better.  I am trying to stand up for the truth.  It seems like people do not like it when you stand up for the truth.  Depending on who you talk to I am the biggest jerk on the planet.  Maybe at times I am, maybe at times I am just trying to get better.

I am not famous or related to anyone famous.  I do not think I look like Mike Tyson, or George Foreman, or O.J. Simpson or like anyone of the Jackson Brothers.  I am just Joseph Luellen III.  I want to be known for the things I accomplish, not the things someone else has done.  I do not want to be known for looking like someone else.  I want to be known for looking like myself.  I want to earn whatever reputation people associate with me.  I want to be known for my actions and my intentions, not my mistakes.

Wouldn’t you want to be known for you talents or the talents of someone else?  I want to find my purpose and use my talents to chase my dreams.  Am I a dreamer?  Yes, Joseph Luellen is a dreamer.  What gave me away?  Was it all the post telling people to chase their dreams?  What is my dream?  I want to be a Rock Star, Fitness, Motivation Guru.  I want to be a Super Star DJ, Team Building Multi-Million Dollar Charity Fundraiser.

I want to be me, and I want you to be you and I want us to be our best.  Is that too much to ask?  Will you chase your dreams or will you complain as life passes you by?  I figure what you do you have to lose by chasing your dreams?  You see, I have everything to lose by not chasing my dreams.  I do not believe I am going to hit the lottery, because I never play the lottery.  I want to be the best Joe Luellen I can be.  I want to be better than my past.  I still believe the future has not been written, so I want to rewrite my future.  You can too.  You can rewrite your future.

You see, I think that people change because they want to change.  I do not believe you can make people change.  I believe people change because they want to change.  That is why I want to change for the better.  Tony Robbins can not do it for me.  Zig Ziegler can not do it for me.  Oprah can not do it for me.  I have to do it for myself.  You have to do it for yourself.  You can do it.  I can do it!  You have to want to do it for yourself.  Not to be like someone else.  I want to be me.  I want to change for myself.

I want to be the best Joseph Luellen III that I can be.  I have to do my thing.  You have to do your thing.  60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo Out!

Maximum Muscle Madness – The Road Warrior Workout:

Every now and then here at 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo, I do a post on Fitness.  I have my own little workout philosophy know as Maximum Muscle Madness.  We sometime I am stuck on the road and can’t get the access to a full gym, and have to use the fitness center at the hotel.  So I have created a modified version of Maximum Muscle Madness for Road Warriors.

Now in the extreme case where there is no fitness center to be found and you are stuck in your hotel room, you can still get a great workout while watching television.  Yes, it is just this simple.  Every commercial break just do one set of push ups and one set of deep knee bends.  If you knees are bad, you can just stand up and sit down on a sturdy chair.  You should shoot for sets of 10, 20 or 30 reps; whatever number you are comfortable doing, but still challenges you.  You figure if you watch a movie and there are 4 to 6 commercial breaks in an hour, you have done a pretty good work out and avoided being a couch potato at the same time.

Are you to busy to even do that much?  Challenge yourself to at least start the day with one set of Push ups and Deep Knee Bends.  That will only take 5 maybe 10 minutes.  It will at least give you something to think about throughout the day.  Also, take your favorite portable music player and a good set of headphones, and find time to walk or run for 30 minutes every other day you are on the road.

Now hopefully you are staying at a hotel or motel that has a basic fitness center.  I have noticed most have a small set of weights and an adjustable bench.  You will also find a treadmill or two and maybe a stationary exercise bike.  You can stay in decent shape by working out with weights one day and doing cardio on alternate days.  Here is a workout I have been doing.

Start with a light amount of weight.  Do a Curl Motion and go directly into an overhead press, back down to the curl position.  This will work your shoulders and arms.  Do about 20 to 30 reps until you are struggling to maintain your form.  This is called the Blaster if you are following the Maximum Muscle Madness Lingo.

As soon as you are done, without setting down the weights, perform a set of Chest Presses.  These are called Super Blasters for you that are following along.  Again, keep the reps at 20 to 30.  Once you are done with the Chest Presses, do a set of Bent-Over Rows, with the same amount of weight.  20 to 30 reps if you can.  You can find examples of these exercises here.

Now, I have to be honest, I don’t like doing core workouts so I have started doing what I will call Standing Leg Raises.  While standing raise your Right Leg as high a possible, bending at the knee, bring your knee as close to you stomach / chest as possible.  You can also slightly bend at the stomach and bring you arms and shoulders in toward you knee as you raise your leg.  Return to a full standing position and alternate legs.  Do 20 reps.  I then twist from side to side leaving my feet and legs facing forward and turn my shoulders from the left to the right and back, 20 reps.  This completes one circuit.  After completing one circuit, I take a quick drink of water, catch my breath and start again.  Complete 3 to 5 of these circuits if you are a beginner.  As you get stronger, you can move to the next round of circuits.

If you are in good condition, and you find after doing 3 of these circuits you want to up your intensity switch from doing sets of Blasters and Super Blasters to doing sets of the Master Blaster first.  Start with Chest Presses of a Heavier Weight, Then drop down to a more manageable weight and do a Set of Curls Into Overhead Presses as described above.  Then move to a weight somewhere in between and do a set of Bent-Over Rows.  Keep reps aiming for 20, but 15 or 10 is OK, Just do not sell yourself short.  This is more challenging because you have to change weights and keep yourself honest.  The do a set of Standing Leg Raises, and A Set of Twisters as described above.  Take a minute, grab a drink of water, catch your breath and begin again.  5 or 6 Honest Circuits should get you blood flowing, and you should break a decent sweat.  If the combination of weights and reps are not challenging you, then you are only cheating yourself.  If you want you can always build up to as many as 9 Circuits.

Remember, in the beginning, use light weights, high reps and maintain good form.  Increase the weight and intensity ever so slightly but maintain good form!  Rest and Hydrate between sets, but do not allow yourself to get complacent.  Try to stay focused and keep your momentum throughout the workout, it is great to have your favorite music on your headphones playing during your workout.

Alternate these weight workouts with days spent on the treadmill or stationary bike.  It may not be as good as your fitness complex you use at home, but it will keep you in great shape while you are on the road.  Maximum Muscle Madness – The Road Warrior Workout:

You need S.T.A.R. to be a Star!

Do you want to be a star?  Do you want to shine your brightest?  Do you want to give your best and maybe in return get the best out of life?  I may not be able to make you a Star in the Hollywood Sense of the word, but you can shine brighter than ever before if you are ready to do your best in just four areas.  S.T.A.R. – Stamina, Talent, Attitude and Respect.

You need S.T.A.R. to be a Star.  Stamina, Talent, Attitude and Respect; now don’t fly off the handle before you read the rest of this post.  Make sure you get all the way through this before you think you completely know where I am coming from.  No I am not a Hollywood Star Maker.  I have not flown to the highest heights of fame.  Have I knocked on the door?  It depends on who you talk to; but from where I sit, if you want to shine your brightest there are four stages you need to travel through.  If you can look back on your life, will you be happy that you gave it your all?  Then with this program you can’t go wrong.

S.T.A.R. – Stamina, Talent, Attitude and Respect:  Step One – Stamina.  No matter what area of your life you want to improve, or not matter what level of success you want to attain; you are going to need Stamina.  Stamina can be called Endurance or Staying Power.  Remember the famous quote, “Overnight Success is Ten Years in the making?”  I am paraphrasing but many quotes are out there.  No one wants to be a “One Hit Wonder” or a “Flash in the Pan” or the every famous, “Here Today, Gone Tomorrow.”  One of the keys to success is being able to duplicate your success.  You need to practice, train, condition and discipline yourself to be ready at a moments notice.  Set a schedule and stick to it.  It takes roughly 10,000 of practice to be considered “World Class” – That is 5 years of 40 hours per week.  The clock is ticking.  S.T.A.R. – Stamina, Talent, Attitude and Respect:  Step One – Stamina

S.T.A.R. – Stamina, Talent, Attitude and Respect:  Step Two – Talent.  OK, so you don’t have Ten Years?  You don’t have Forty Hours a Week for the Next Five Years? Then you better have Talent, and lots of it.  You better have More Talent than anyone else, or you better have Talent and a Greater Hunger than Everyone Else.  Guess what the Catch is?  If you have all that Talent and Hunger, but no Stamina and Discipline, You will rocket to the top and then quickly burn out.  Getting to the top is rare; staying on top is even rarer.  Remember, people love to see the arrogant upstart fall flat on their face.  Fame is fleeting, and there is a term in show business called “Yesterday’s News” otherwise known as a “Has Been” or “Washed Up.”  I am not trying to be cruel here at 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo, my duty is to tell you the truth, and what you are up against. Talent, get it, hone it and practice, practice, practice!

S.T.A.R. – Stamina, Talent, Attitude and Respect:  Step Three – Attitude.  Now you have all the Stamina, Discipline, Talent and Hunger to get to the Top, now you need Attitude.  Be careful with this one.  Attitude is a state of mind that you will win, but not so much that you think it will be handed to you on a silver platter.  You have to be able to “Put Up or Shut Up” as they say.  Remember, don’t be mad at me; I am just trying to tell it like it is… Watch any Talent Show on T.V. these days, there is always that one-act that has it all, but then in the moment of truth, Stage Fright takes them out of the running.  If you crack under pressure you do not have the right attitude.  If you think they are just going to hand you the world on a silver platter, you still don’t have the right attitude.  If you know you have put in the work, but you have to prove you are the best; then you are on the right track.  It is OK to have a little chip on your shoulder, just don’t make it personal.  Attitude – Step Three, S.T.A.R. – Stamina, Talent, Attitude and Respect:

S.T.A.R. – Stamina, Talent, Attitude and Respect:  Step Four, Respect.  This may be the most important step of them all.  Respect, I do not mean Respect in the Gangster, Gangland way.  I mean respect of those who came before you and those who will come after you.  Respect that gifts you have been given, respect the gifts you will be given and respect the fact that you will not do this alone.  It takes a team, so surround yourself with people you can trust, with people you love and people you respect.  Now, notice the order, Trust, Love and Respect.  If you can not trust them, be very careful loving and respecting them.  Find a mentor who can help you through the tough times, and mentor others who are up and coming.  Respect your field, respect your craft, and respect those around you, even your competition.  If you make enough people angry with a bad attitude and lack of respect; you will see your support system pulled from under you.  Respect, let me say it again S.T.A.R. – Stamina, Talent, Attitude and Respect:  Step Four, Respect.

Now do you see where I am coming from?  S.T.A.R. – Stamina, Talent, Attitude and Respect:    If you want to shine like a Star, use the S.T.A.R. system.  I am giving you this advice free of charge.  Maybe one day it will be in a book, or on late night T.V. infomercials, but for now 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo is Free of Charge on WordPress.  Use and it and be one of my Testimonials.  (Smile)

Standing up for what you believe in is the right thing to do.

It can be scary sometimes.  Is it the peer pressure or the fear of being rejected?  Maybe it’s the fear of losing your job or losing your friends.  Standing up for what you believe in can be a scary thing, but it is the right thing to do.

So do you have it in you?  Do you stand up for what you believe in even if it means you might lose a few friends?  Do you stand up for what you believe in, even if your job is on the line?  Yes it is a scary thing, but it is the right thing.

Are short cuts really short cuts?  Are cover ups worth it?  Sooner or later the truth does come out, it just depends on who gets caught holding the bag.  If you are the kind of person who just goes with the flow, you really are not standing for what you believe in, because sooner or later the flow will go against what you believe.

The popular choice is not always the right choice.  The fastest way is not always the best way.  If you really stand up for something, sooner or later you will be at the crossroads.  Will you go out of your way; will you go down a road you really do not want to go down, just because you may lose a few friends?  Let me let you in on a little secret.  If your friends can not respect your beliefs; then they are really not your friends.

Standing up for what you believe in can be a very scary thing; but it is the right thing to do.  Hopefully you are standing up for the truth.  Hopefully you are standing up for what is right.  Yes it can be scary, but you have to believe it is the right thing.  What if standing up for the right thing puts your job on the line, would you do it then?  It is easier to go with the flow when your income may be affected.  It would be easier to bury your head in the sand and hope it passes you over; but if you really believe in something, if you really think it is the right thing to do than stand up for what you believe.

Notice, please notice that all the way through this post, I have never once tried to tell you what to believe.  I can not break down people’s belief systems, I can only pray you are in the pursuit of the truth.  Once again, I am not telling you what the truth is or what to believe.  I don’t know what it is; I never got the “Yes Man” DNA.  I never was able to never question or never second guess or never read a little deeper.  For some reason I look for patterns, I need conformation, I look for common ground and some sort of agreement, and then when someone violates that common ground; I think something is a miss.  I think someone is missing when people switch sides and switch position based on who is or is not in the room.  See that is a sure sign of going with the flow, or not really standing up for what you believe; or at least it is a sign for me.

So I can’t tell you that standing up for what you believe in is going to be easy, I think it will be scary.  I think that doing the right thing will be rewarded in the end.  You see I did the wrong thing plenty of times, and it never seemed to pay off.  I have also learned that everything you don’t double check seems to come back to haunt you.  So somewhere in all of this I have learned that doing the right thing in the short-term may seem like its own reward, but I think in the end; doing the right thing will be rewarded.  I have to believe that what Reap what we Sow.  I believe what goes around comes around.  I believe in Karma or lack thereof leads to Nirvana.  I believe that we can call it many things, but in the end we will find out it is all the same thing.  So I believe that Standing up for what you believe is the right thing to do.  And I think each of us has a duty to analyze our belief system.  I think we all have to figure it out for ourselves.

See you can never really figure out where you stand if all you ever do is go with the flow.  I think that if you only wait to see what the popular choice or the powerful choice is you are bending your will to someone else’s will.  Me personally I believe in God, and that our spirit can tell us what is right and what is wrong.  This is only me, believe what you will; but for heaven’s sake, stand up for what you believe.  Double check you own belief, think twice, verify, and meditate, pray, whatever you need to do.  Just stand for what you believe.  I am convinced it is the right thing to do.
