Why Teamwork sometimes doesn’t work.

We hear it all the time; teamwork is the magic cure to everything that goes wrong in a business.  Well sometimes teamwork does not work.  And of course everyone is ready to place blame.  I can give you 4 reasons why teamwork some times does not work.  Time, Energy, Attitude and Management will make or break a team based on one condition.  If you want to know more, keep reading.  If you just want to place blame, you can stop and find your answers somewhere else.

There is no I in TEAM, but there is an M and an E.  Is the team about “Me” or is the team about “We?”  This is a simple question that every Leader and every Team member have to ask themselves.  I told you I would give you Four Reasons why teamwork sometimes does not work.  All based on one Condition.  Time, Energy, Attitude, and Management – now place either “Me” or “We” in front of each of them.  Successful teams have are based on the power of “We!”  Teams that fail, fail because people put “Me” before “We.”

Me Time vs. We Time:  When people describe events do they talk about what they do or what the team does?  Team players focus on what the team accomplished.  I get it, everyone needs Me Time, but for a team to be successful, people have to learn the power of We Time.  When the team is together, be it for practice, planning or game time; everyone has to focus on what the team can do together and not focus on what people can do or have done separately.  Teams need time to form and gel.  If there is no We Time in the Team Time all you have is a collection of Individuals who only value their own time.  Too much “Me” Time can kill a team.

Me Energy vs We Energy.  The best example of energy I can give you is a Tug Of War Team.  If everyone one a Tug of War Team is pulling at different times, the team will fail.  For a Tug of War Team to win, every has to pull in the same direction at the same time.  This is the difference between Me Energy and We Energy.  Me energy, everyone is working separately and could be working against each other.  We Energy is focused, concentrated and working in the same direction at the same time.  We Energy makes winning seem a lot easier.  Me Energy makes winning a lot harder.  Teams need to focus on using We Energy.  I hope this makes sense.

Me Attitude vs We Attitude:  This one should be the easiest to understand.  People with a Me, Me, Me Attitude will kill a team’s spirit.  No one likes it when someone else takes credit for their work.  Teams and Team Leaders must have a We Attitude.  Make sure everyone gets credit for the efforts of the team.  I am not talking about lip service, I am taking about recognition and rewards, share them with the team.

Me Management vs We Management:  This is very important for a team to win.  Management must have a Team attitude.  It does not matter if it is a business, a hobby, a professional sports team, a church group or a charity.  Me First Management will rub off on the Team.  This will affect the team’s attitude and energy, and sooner or later, everyone will think the team is a waste of time.  We Management will make sure to put the good of the team above the good of any one person.

When a team fails, there is a valuable lesson to be learned.  Don’t lose the lesson.  Did the team take the proper amount of time to form and prepare.  Was Team Time mainly “Me” Time or “We” Time?  Did the team apply the proper amount of energy?  Did everyone work together and focus their energy for maximum results or were people working against each other or not at all?  Did the team have a team first attitude?  Or were people more worried about making themselves look good?  And above all, did team management create and foster a team spirit?  Did management stress we win or lose together, or was management putting themselves above the team?

Team Victory

Team work does work, but you have to work as a team!

Escaping the Abyss:

Escaping the Abyss:

Battle not with monsters, lest ye become a monster, and if you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.  Friedrich Nietzsche

Go with me on this one.  Allow your imagination to stretch on this one. Imagine for a minute there are two towns: One is a virtual paradise and the other a place called wayside.  Wayside is a place where if you work hard enough for long enough you can make a nice living for yourself.  Now the towns are separated by a deep valley, so deep if you look down in it, you see nothing but shadows.  The towns are on either side of a mountain pass, and if you look over head there is a bridge.  It is said that monsters live in the valley, and monsters protect the bride into paradise.

Many people have tried to enter into paradise, but precious few have made it.  Some have tried to cross through the valley only to be lost in the darkness.  The entrance to the bridge is hidden deep in the mountains.  Few if any ever find the entrance to the bridge.

Now the people who are born in paradise love their home and actually feed and employ the monsters from the abyss to keep people out.  If you have entered into paradise, then you can come back freely.  99 Percent of the people born in paradise never leave it.  99 Percent of the people born outside of paradise in wayside have given up hope of ever reaching paradise.  99 Percent of the people in the abyss have given up hope of ever leaving the abyss.  Because the monsters of the abyss are actually fed and paid by the people of paradise to keep people out.  Once you are in the abyss, if the monsters see you trying to leave, or trying to enter the bridge, they will stop you and pull you back.  You have to know the way into paradise, and you have to avoid the monsters to stand a chance.  Once you are on the bridge you are safe, if you don’t fall off.

Now there is a rumor of a man who worked his way into paradise, and set up a bungee cord on the bridge.  It is said that he has lost a few loved ones in the abyss.  As rumor has it, he is recruiting a team of people to bungee jump into the abyss, locate their loved ones and pull them out.  Now getting caught is a risky proposition, so this is kept very quite.  The monsters in the abyss will try to trap you there in the darkness and you will quickly lose hope of ever leaving.  It is said if you spend too much time in darkness, the light actually burns your eyes, and causes some people so much pain, they would rather stay in the darkness. Hence it is very important to get in and out of the abyss as quickly and quietly as possible.  And if someone is lost in the abyss, it is very important to find the person before they become trapped by the darkness and afraid to return to the light.

Again, this is only a rumor, but rumor has it that if someone bungee jumps into the abyss, it takes at least two people to pull the person out, three if they attempt to bring someone with them.  Also rumor has it, that if the person in the abyss is afraid to leave, or is being held back by the monsters in the abyss, it can take up to seven people to pull the two people out.  If everything does not go well, the person on the bungee cord can be lost to the abyss also.  Again, this is all a rumor, but rumor has it the person who set up this rescue operation was lost in the abyss, and found their way out.

So, for this to work; it is very important that you can find the entrance to the bridge.  You also must have a team ready to pull you out of the abyss.  You also have to get in and out of the abyss as fast as possible.  And the person in the abyss you are trying to rescue must actually want to leave the abyss quickly and quietly.  Remember, people who have been in the darkness too long are actually afraid of the light because it burns their eyes.

The people of wayside can see paradise, and can see the bridge, but they are so afraid of the monsters and the abyss that many of them have given up hope of ever entering paradise.  It is said that every so often people from paradise will come to wayside, but they rarely if ever show anyone the way to get into paradise; they want paradise for themselves.  Again, it is a rumor that there is a precious few people who have escaped the abyss, made it into paradise and are willing to show people how to get to paradise, and also how to get their loved ones out of the abyss.  The problem is fear.  People in the abyss are afraid of leaving the abyss.  People in wayside are afraid of falling in the abyss.  And the people of paradise are afraid of losing paradise.  Remember the people of Paradise will feed and pay the monsters to keep people out.

Now what if I told you, I knew the way into to paradise, and I knew how to escape the abyss, would you be able to overcome your fear?  If I told you for everyone we want to pull out of the abyss we need one person to enter the abyss and seven people to pull them out, would you help pull them out?  Would you enter the abyss to save someone you love?  And what if I told you, if you enter the abyss, there is a chance you might not come back.  Would you still enter the abyss?  What if I told you every trip to the bridge and every trip into the abyss you run the risk encountering and fighting monsters?  Would you still search for and enter the bridge?  Now remember all of this is only a rumor.  Would you believe the rumor?

So what is the moral of all of this?  To cross the bridge from Wayside to Paradise, or to escape the Abyss, you must have Faith, Love and Work as a Team.  You can not be afraid of the light, for the light is truth.  You have to know how to get to the bridge, and the way to the bridge is the truth.  So if you know the truth, have faith and will work as a team you may be able to save the ones you love.  But the ones that you love can not be afraid of being saved; otherwise you both run the risk of being trapped in the abyss.

Battle not with monsters, lest ye become a monster, and if you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.  I am not afraid to battle monsters, or to gaze into the abyss.  I have been there and gotten out.  I can not prove this works, unless people are ready to work together.  I am convinced together we can not only build a bridge to paradise, but also rescue people from the abyss.  I just can’t do it alone.

Now, have I stretched your mind enough for one day?  Are you ready to escape the abyss?  Would you like to cross the bridge into paradise?  You must know the truth.  You can not be afraid to see the light.  You can not be afraid to battle monsters.  You must be willing to work as a team.  You must be willing to sacrifice for the ones you love.  That is the only way I know to escape the abyss.

Aces High!

Aces High!  A.C.E. – Attitude, Confidence and Energy!  Are you an A.C.E?  Do you want to be?  Well here we are again at 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo with another Acronym and another thread to try to motivate everyone who reads them.

Aces are the highest value card in the deck.  Aces aim high.  Aces are called on when no one else can do the job.  Aces tackle the toughest problems.  If you want to be an A.C.E. you must have the Attitude, the Confidence and the Energy.

To be an A.C.E. starts with your Attitude.  Do you want to be the best?  It starts with your attitude.  The attitude of an Ace is to be the best.  Being the best is a decision.  You have to believe that it is possible for you to be the best that you can be.  You have to believe that your best can make a difference.  You have to believe that you can be around the best and become the best that you can be.  It is about your attitude.  You want to be an A.C.E.?  Then you must have a winning attitude.

First comes Attitude, then comes Confidence.  Do you know the difference between arrogance and confidence???  I do, because I have been called arrogant plenty of times.  Arrogance is when you talk bigger than you can walk.  Confidence is when you put in the time and practice, practice, and practice some more.  Aces have to be confident.  Arrogance means you make big promises and you do not deliver.  Confidence is when you know your limits and operate inside of them.  Aces must be confident.  Arrogance is all talk while confidence is quite cool.  It is a fine line.  Yeah, I walk both sides of that line.  It starts with your attitude; you must have the attitude of a winner.  But you can’t come off as Arrogant, you want to been known as Confident.  It is better to deliver on your promises, and keep the trash talk to yourself.  Aces need Attitude and Confidence and also need Energy.

Energy; it starts with Attitude, Second is Confidence, but it all comes down to Energy.  Being an Ace means you are in it for the long haul.  Being an Ace means when no one else will step up, you will.  Being an Ace means when all hope is lost, you still have hope.  Being an Ace takes endurance and endurance takes energy.  The world turns Twenty Four Hours a Day, Seven Days a Week.  The Internet Never Sleeps.  I have worked at companies that are basically running round the clock.  I have worked in situations where every minute counts.  Sometimes I had the energy and sometimes I did not have the energy.  When my Attitude, and My Confidence and My Energy were in alignment, good things usually happened.  When they were not bad things happened.  Energy is easy when your attitude and confidence are lined up.  Energy is easy when you believe in what you are doing.  But you still need the endurance to run the race.  Pace yourself!

Aces aim high.  Aces want to be the best.  Aces understand that Attitude, Confidence and Energy all have to be aligned.  Aces believe they can make a difference.  Aces want to be the best!  Be an Ace!

The Backup Singer.

What do Luther Vandross, Jon Secada and Ke$ha all have in common?  Even though they sing different styles of music from different eras to different audiences; they all started as backup singers before they stepped out on their own.  Today here at 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo, I will look at this a little closer.  I will dig a little deeper.  And hopefully in the end I will motivate you to allow yourself to be in the background before you step out on your own.

Learning the ropes; a lot of different careers can be nerve-racking, exciting and very competitive all at the same time.  This would be true of being a singer.  Everyone sings; few do it well.  Even the most mediocre singers can dream of being stars, but few will ever get there regardless of how much talent they possess.  Few can argue the impact of Luther Vandross, Jon Secada or even Ke$ha, but many can argue who had more talent.  For this post talent is not the point, the point is that each of these singers sang backup for other artists before they were given a chance to go solo in the big time.  David Bowie, Flo-Rida, Gloria Estafan or Britney Spears are names that most people have heard of because they each have a string of hits to choose from.  Ke$ha, Jon Secada and Luther Vandross each sang backup for one or more of these artists.

David Bowie is one of the most recognizable singers in Rock and Roll history.  Not many people know that Luther Vandross sang back up for David Bowie during the Blue Eyed Soul Phase of his career.  I would venture to guess that most Luther Vandross fans are not big David Bowie Fans or vice versa.  Again, this is not the point.  The point is Luther Vandross was able to take on a role of a backup singer for a Rock and Roll Artist while he was trying to make a name for himself as a R-N-B, Soul and Jazz Singer.  Singing backup for a major artist like David Bowie meant Luther Vandross could begin to make a name for himself among Producers, Managers, Agents and Promoters in a very competitive field of that is the music business.

Fans of Jon Secada are more than likely fans of Gloria Estefan.  They both sang Latin Infused Pop called the Miami Sound in the 1980s.  Jon Secada agreed to sing back up for Gloria Estafan, and she in turned agreed to help mentor him and launch is solo career.  Though Jon Secada may have only had a hit or two, he was still able to learn the ropes from his mentor. He was also able to get a lot farther, faster than if he would have tried to go out on his own. He was able to build her career outside of being a backup singer, just as Luther Vandross and Jon Secada were able to make a name for himself.  In the music business, like many businesses; you can benefit from who you know.  Jon Secada is another example of someone who was able to build their name while being a back ground performer for someone else.

Ke$ha is a current trending pop star.  Before she had any hits of her own, she sang backup and duets with Britney Spears and Flo Rida.  Now she has a string of hits of her own.  She was able to go from being almost unknown to being featured performer on Television for New Years Eve Broadcasts.  Why, because she was able to not just perform in the background but to make a name for herself while working with other artists.

Now before I go any farther let me stress, Luther Vandross, Jon Secada and Ke$ha made names form themselves, but when they stepped out on their own; their were not coping their mentors.  They were showcasing their talents and their styles.  It is ok to learn the ropes working in the background, but when your time; you have to use your talents, not just copy the work of others.  These artists were waiting for their chance to step out and shine.

What do Phil Collins, Martin Gore, and Bernard Sumner all have in common?  Each of them was able to step up when key members of the groups they were in left.

Phil Collins took over the lead vocal duties for Genesis when Peter Gabriel left the group.

Martin Gore took over the song writing duties for Depeche Mode when Vince Clark left the group.

Bernard Sumner stepped up to when the lead singer of Joy Division committed suicide; the group moved forward forming New Order.

In each case the groups became even more popular after the people working in the background came forward and kept things moving.  Yes, these may be more extreme case, but sometimes working in the background gives you the chance to learn the ropes and hone your skills so you can be able to take over if you are called on.

Working in the background may give you the experience you need to be the leader you want to become.  Learn while you are working in the back ground.  Ask questions.  Accept coaching and mentoring.  Put yourself in the place to make a name for yourself.  Don’t take people or the chances you are given for granted while working in the background.  Your time could be right around the corner.

Winners practice to win.

Winning takes practice. You can do it.  Don’t worry; I would not bring this up if I did not think you had it in you.  Winning takes practice, so practice to win!

This is 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo.  I am here to convince you to chase your dreams.  I am also here to convince you, that you can catch your dreams.  So what good would it do for me not to tell you what it takes to win?  I believe winning takes practice.  So practice to win.  Practice the way winners practice.  Practice the fundamentals.  Balance in a little time for fun.  Study your opponent if you have one.  Know your strengths and your weakness.  Formulate a plan, practice your plan.  Be ready for things to change.  Be ready to win, so practice to win

Arrogance comes from a false belief that you are prepared to win.  Confidence comes from the reality that you are prepared to win.  The first step is to practice the fundamentals of whatever it is you are doing.  It can be athletics, it can be business, or it can be art or science.  Study the fundamentals.  Have you ever heard the term “Standing on the shoulders of giants?”  This means learning from those who have come before you.  This allows you to see farther.  You have elevated your knowledge, and hopefully you have elevated your skills.  You have to practice to win.

Winning requires planning and planning requires you study yourself, your team and your opponent.  I some cases you opponent may be fear, fear of public speaking or performing in front of a crowd.  So you have to practice to win.  If you have never performed or played in front of a large crowd, schedule an open scrimmage or an open rehearsal.  Invite people to watch.  You may learn your fear is unfounded.  Confidence comes from proper preparation.

Winning takes time, and winning takes work.  Schedule a little time for fun.  Having fun and being able to relax in the heat of battle is something that you learn to do.  It may seem like it comes natural to some.  Yes, some people feed off the energy that crowds and intense situations create, but learning to perform on the edge without going over the edge takes experience, experience that comes from winning practice.  This is a form of practice that winners teach to each other.  So if you can’t figure out what I am going to say next; here it is, practice to win!

Let say you want to give a winning presentation or performance in a play or at a concert; practice the performance.  Do a dry run through or dress rehearsals until everyone is comfortable and confident.  Are you nervous in front of a crowd?  Practice out in public, open up a practice to the public; or at the very least the family, friends and co-workers of those who are going to be out in front.    Some major sports teams have open scrimmages to get their new members ready for the up coming season; winning teams and winning traditions know how to teach people how to win.  Winning teams and winning traditions practice to win.  Study your competition and take notes.  Study the successes of those who came before you.

Now all that being said, all the study in the world will not help you if you can not be flexible.  Times change, people change, accidents happen; nothing will ever go perfectly as planned, and if it does it is extremely rare.  Account for things to go wrong, and be able to recover.  This is all the more reason why people must learn to have fun and stay loose during practice sessions.  Winners know how to stay relaxed while on edge; winners know how to not go over board when things go wrong.  It means that everyone is ready to step up when called upon.  Winners practice how to win.  Don’t let your practice get stale, shake things up to account for changing plans or missing pieces.  Learn how to win when things go wrong.  To win you have to account for ever-changing times and conditions so practice to win!

You can do it.  You just have to put your time in.  Get around winners and step up your game.  Step up your skills, study the fundamentals, and learn how to stay relaxed when the pressure kicks up.  Be ready to step up when called upon, and make sure the people around you are ready to step up also.  Winners practice how to win!

Dream It, Plan It, Live It!

It starts with a dream, a vision or that breakthrough moment.  Then it takes a plan, goal setting, it takes breaking things down to simple steps.  In the end it comes down to living it, doing it, making it happen.  Dream It, Plan It, Live It!

Everything sounds so easy once you write it down.  Everything sounds so easy when you are a critic of someone else’s words.  Either you believe or you don’t.  You get to choose; for me, my choice is made.  I am here at 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo to try to transfer the Mojo of Motivation to you in 60 Seconds or less.  Dream It, Plan It, Live It!  It is your choice.

OK, here we are again, at the beginning.  Do you have a dream?  The answer is yes you do.  Everyone has a dream, the only thing is if you will remember your dream and have the courage to admit it.  Everyone has a dream, the only difference is some people give up on their dreams, some people chase them and some people catch them.  I am in the chase stage, and I am not afraid to say it.  I have been broadcasting my belief on dreams for a while now.  A lot of people think I am crazy.  You know what that tells me about them?  It tells me they have given up on their dreams.  Some people are chasing their dreams, but they are hard to find.  Sorry to break it to you.  But I know first hand.  Others have caught and are living their dreams.  Those are the people whose books I read and stories I hear.  Those are the ideas I let bounce around in my head.  This blog is part of my dream.  This blog is part of my quest to inspire others to chase their dreams, and to find out what seems to rise above the static.  It starts with a dream.  You have to dream it, and then plan it and one day you might live it!

Plan It.  Having a dream is not enough.  You have to break it down into steps and then set goals for yourself.  You have to plan out how it is going to work.  Winning the lottery or winging it is not much of a plan.  It may work for a few and I mean a few.  Sad statistic and sad fact about the lottery is that 70% of lottery winners wind up broke.  So even if you hit the lottery you still need a plan.  So again I say, break it down into steps and set goals for yourself.  I am not telling you what dream to chase; I am telling you that you need a plan.  Dream It, Plan It, Live It.

Live It.  This may sound crazy but you have to Live Your Dream to Catch Your Dream.  That does not seem to make sense does it?  Ok, you have to live your plan before you catch your dream.  Does that sound better?  I have read many a book on business; I have sub-contracted and freelanced for people who have started their own businesses.  There is a very common theme that I have been told and learned.  You have to be all in 100% behind any business you start.    Unless you come out of the box with a substantial amount of money, you will have to do a lot of the early work.  I once had a guy tell me, you have to work it like your rent money is on the line.  Wise words for anyone who wants to start their own business.  You have to treat each day as if your rent money is on the line.  You have to work and live the plan to make your dreams come true.  Dream It, Plan It and then Live It!

Act as if!  Have you ever heard that before?  Act as if?  I have personally asked a bunch of people, what would they do if they had unlimited amounts of time and money.  This is usually what it takes for people to tell you their dream.  Take that dream, take what you would be doing, and start doing it now.  I am not talking about “Fake it till you make it”  Fake it means acting like someone else, I am talking about living your dream even if it is in small dosages.  If you say that you would travel, then travel.  Take day trips, explore your own neighborhood.  If you say you would help the poor, than help the poor.  Go volunteer one day a month or one afternoon a week.  Act as if.  Find out what it takes to live your dream full-time, from people who are doing the things you want to do.  Act as if!!!  Dream It, Plan It, Live It!

See first you have to admit you have a Dream!  All of us have a dream.  You can’t lie to yourself.  Second you must have the courage to plan out the steps it is going to take to reach your dream.  You may have to set aside your ego and admit you don’t have all the answers.  Then you have to Live It.  Set aside the time and then go all in during that time.  No excuses.  You must have the attitude that if you don’t do this, then you don’t pay your rent.  Your have to live it, even if it is only for a few hours a week, or one day out of the month.  You have to act as if!  Dream It, Plan It, and the Live It!

60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo – Out!

I choose to harness the power of my words.

All boats rise with the tide!  So if I could harness the power of the moon to raise the tides I would.   So I choose to harness the power of my words.  I choose to learn from those who have inspired me and attempt to inspire others.  That if we work together we can all win together.  Let’s raise the tide.

If I could harness the power of the sun, I would.  Renewable energy is a real thing now.  Solar Energy can help lower your energy footprint.  So right know I am trying to spread the word, that we can and we will make a difference.  Can my words help renew your spirit.  Can my words give you renewed energy that you can still live your dreams.  Well the sun will shine whether or not I harness its power, and I will continue to try to inspire with my words.

Do my words have any real power?  How can I measure it?  Currently I can not measure the power of my words, but I can measure the power of my actions.  I have to try to live be the words I transmit.  I have to try to practice what I preach.  I preach teamwork and leadership and chasing dreams, so I sure hope I am living those things.  I hope I am living what I am saying, what I am blogging.  If I believe my words can inspire others, I have to start with myself.

Other wise it is all just blowing wind.  The answer is blowing in the wind.  So I would hope I am trying to find the answer, and I also hope that you are trying to find the answer.  The answer to your plan, the answer to your goals, you see this is the answer to chasing your dreams.  I would hope that I am chasing my dreams and inspiring you to chase your dreams.  I am not trying to tell you what your dream should be, I am telling you to look for the answers.  They say success leaves clues, so search the wind at the very least.  Then maybe listen to those whispers in the wind and get around people who have answers to the questions you are asking.  The proof is in the pudding.  No Pudding, no answers.

Where there is smoke there is fire, so look for the smoke.  Find the source of the smoke and ask yourself if the same fire burns inside of you.  Don’t fall for a smoke screen.  Find out what is really going on, find out for yourself.  No one can do it for you, just like you can’t do it for me.  I have to see it.  I have to believe it.  I have to teach it, preach it and live it.  Chase your dreams.  I have to chase my dreams to convince you that you can chase your dreams.

My words have no power if I am not building my self based on the power of my words.  If I could harness the power of the Sun and the Moon and the Wind imagine the impact I could have on this earth.  So I choose to harness the power of my words and imagine the power I can have on my own life.  I believe that you can do the same.  Harness the power of your words, and build yourself up on them.

A Million Dollar Dream, a Billion Dollar Plan.

Can I take a moment of your time, and tell you that I want to be a part of making the world a better place.  I can I take a moment of your time to tell you that you can make the world a better place.  Can I take a moment of your time and tell you of my Million Dollar Dream and My Billion Dollar Plan?

I have a dream of raising Millions of Dollars for Charity.  I am a dream big kind of guy.  So why stop there?  A Million Dollars is not what it used to be.  So I am going to also tell you of my Billion Dollar Plan.  You see, deep down inside; I wish I was Santa Claus.  I wish I had the resources to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, give toys to deserving kids and also award scholarships and the hope of a college education to as many people as possible.  I have a dream and a plan, now either you believe or you don’t; but either way I hope to get there one day.

So my dream is that I can be a part of people coming together to promote for each other.  My dream is that I can be a part of people working together to volunteer in their community.  My dream is that I can be a part of raising money to help those who have been hit hard by hard times, and we can help get them back on their feet.

I am the guy who puts his spare change in the jars at the corner store to help out all the different causes.  I am the guy who has donated my time and talents to help raise money or make a difference.  I am the guy who challenges others to get involved also, not just throw money at a problem; see where the money is going.  Volunteer, tutor, coach or mentor; I have done these things and I challenge you to do the same.  I am not telling you what to do or where to go, I am just telling you to go and do.  You will make a difference.

So what is my Million Dollar Idea?  I believe we can be a part of getting people to come together and raise Millions of Dollars for Charity.  When you add up all the events I have been a part of, DJ’ing or Volunteering it has helped raise Millions for Charity.  Now my wife and I are helping Organize Fundraisers, and with the help of the people who have teamed with us we have raised Thousands of dollars so far.  More help and more events, and I am sure the number could approach a Million Dollars.  Again, I am a Big Dream kind of guy, why stop at a Million?

Why not a Billion Dollar Plan?  Yes, my plan is to one day be able to put together a Billion Dollar network.  A Billion Dollar Foundation to help clean up parks and provide safe places for kids to play.  A Billion Dollar Foundation that provides Tutoring Services to Kids in after school programs.  A Billion Dollar Foundation that awards Scholarships so people can continue their education after high school.  Yes, My Big Plan is a Billion Dollar Foundation that can be a Business Incubator and help solid ideas with Start-up Funding.  Yes, my plan is a Billion Dollar Plan to get people up and helping out with local charities.  A Billion Dollar Network, A Billion Dollar Foundation, A Billion Dollar Plan just means I can do more of the same things I have done on a smaller scale.  A Billion Dollar Plan means I can help make sure things are done the right way.

Or maybe it is all just a dream.  But if I can be a part of building a network of people who will work together, to promote each other, build teams to volunteer for local causes, provide motivation and leadership, and provide tutoring and scholarships for children, to help clean up neighborhoods and provide funding for local charities; what do I have to lose by trying?  Maybe we fall short; maybe we only raise Millions of dollars.  Maybe we only raise Thousands of dollars.  But what do I have to lose by trying.  What do I have to lose by Daring to Dream Big!  A Million Dollar Dream and a Billion Dollar Plan!

Have you ever heard the term “Fake it ‘till you make it?”  Well I am going to challenge you to forget that term.  I am going to challenge you to learn to own it.  Learn it, live it, love it and the own it.  This means the buck stops with you.  If you are ready, keep reading; I got 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo for you.  Are you ready?  Learn to Own It!

What is your favorite hobby?  What is your dream job?  What do you want to be when you grow up?  Learn to own it!  What ever your answer was, learn to own it.  Owning it means you want to be the best; and if you don’t do it, you know that no one else will.  Owning it means that you want to be the best, and when you become the best you will surround yourself with the best and make them even better.  Fake it ‘till you make it is dead.  Learn to forget you ever heard it.  It means you just want to be around people who are great and you might just be playing opossum, you may be just trying to blend in and act like everyone else.  Owning it means you are ready to break the mold and make a new one!  Learn to Own It!

Who is the greatest athlete of all time?  Does not matter who you think it is, it is open to debate; one thing is common of all of them.  They had to learn to own it.  They did not want to just try out and have fun; they did not want to just make the team.  They wanted to excel, win championships, and bring home a M.V.P. or two.  They wanted to set a new standard for themselves and their teammates.  They owned it.  Do you want to learn to own it?

It is simple.  To learn to own it, you have to act like you own it.  Get there early, stay late, work hard, learn from the best and then learn how to work smart.  Picture yourself at the top; then break down the steps until you get there.  You are not sneaking in the back door! You are coming in the front with all the paparazzi following your every move!!!  Kids dream of owning it, and then we adults crush their dreams.  Some kids never listen, then us broken adult have to learn how to unlearn and relearn how to own it.  That is the point of this post.  We have to relearn.  We have to learn to own it.

Fake it ‘till you make it is not the way to go.  Learn how to own it.  If you break it, you fix it.  Fakers will leave things broken or blame someone else if something does not get done.  People who own it say “If I don’t hunt, then I don’t eat!”  Fakers show up for a feast and freeload as much as they can.  People who own it want to provide the feast.  People who own it believe in the horn of plenty.  Learn to own it!

Fakers pride themselves in acting like people who are successful.  People, who learn to own it, want to add a whole new level to success.  They want to take what has been done into new territory.  Who is the greatest Rock and Roll Band of All Time?  It does not matter who you think it is, all that matters is that they did not want to sound like anyone else.  They wanted to do their own thing.  Yeah, you have to learn how to play your instrument, but then you have to sing your own song.  You can’t get there standing in the shadow of giants, you have to stand on the shoulders of giants.  Do you understand me?  I hope you do.

Learn to own it!

My take on pain:

I have heard that the only “Good Pain” is “Champagne.”  Yeah, that statement made me laugh.  I have my own take on pain.  I am here to share.  I am here to encourage.  This is 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo.  Maybe I can make you smile, maybe I can get you to think twice; here is my take on pain.

You can’t spell Champion or Complain without pain.  You see both words have pain in common.  The only difference is if you can endure the pain to become a Champion or do you subdue to the pain and then are left to complain?  This is my very simple take on pain.  Yes, I will go deeper if you stay with me.  If you are convinced I am crazy then you can stop, give up and go back to your life.

No Pain No Gain.  We have all heard this fitness catch phrase haven’t we?  Well, haven’t we?  So, why are we avoiding what we already know?  Life is pain; the question is are you going to step up or give up?  Champions rise above the pain.  Champions endure the pain.  Champions keep going in spite of the pain.  Or you can complain that life is not fair.  You can complain that you never win.  You can complain that you were not born rich or with talent or were never given the chances that other people got.  Either way it is pain, either you endure it and rise above it, or you share your pain with others through complaining.  This is my take on pain; you endure and become a champion or you give in and complain.

The only Good Pain is Champagne.  Champions and Complainers can both have their share of Champagne, but the taste is different.  Champion’s Champagne tastes of the spoils of victory.  Complainer’s Champagne tastes of the agony of defeat and drowned sorrows.  Victory Champagne tastes sweeter.  I am here to tell you, if you can endure the pain, you can taste the sweetness of victory.  You can drink of the Champagne Cup of a Champion or you can give up and complain.  This is my take on pain; go ahead and say that I am crazy or maybe let this sink in a little while.

No one is going to hand you your dreams on a silver platter.  Heck if they do, tell me your secret.  I am still chasing my dreams, I am living my own learning curve and I am sharing along the way.  It is no surprise to me that you will face pain in your life.  I face pain but I choose to find the positive and share.  I choose to endure.  You can endure also.  Do not get sucked in by pity parties no matter how much of the bitter Complain Champagne you are offered.  Soon you will enjoy drowning your sorrows more than chasing your dreams.  Don’t do it.  Endure the pain, until you taste Champion Champagne; it is much sweeter.  This is my take on pain; endure until you become a Champion.

It is inside you, I believe it with my whole heart.  The problem is you have to believe it also.  You have to surround yourself with the most talented and hardest working people you can find and endure the pain until you become Champions.  I can not do it for you, and you can’t do it or me.  Maybe if we are lucky we can get there together; if not; I hope to see you on the other side, drinking from the Cup of Champions.  This is my take on pain; we are meant to endure!
