This post is a test.
This post is a test of the information age. It is a test of search engines. It is a test if people will view this post more than all others that I post based simply on my listing the most popular searches. Even though this post is about Motivation and Leadership, none of those topics made the Top Ten in America for 2013. These are the things that people were searching for and asking the great “What is” question.
1.What is Twerking?
2.What is Ricin?
3.What is DOMA?
4.What is Molly?
5.What is Gluten?
6.What is Sequestration?
7.What is Obamacare?
8.What is Lupus?
9.What is Snapchat?
10.What is Bitcoin?
Ask yourself if people are searching for ways to make your life better and why those topics would not be the most searched terms in any given year. If you have found this website on your way to looking in these others topics, maybe you can search around my site and see what I think about Motivation and Leadership.
So if all I wanted was to be popular, I would be posting about the most searched topics. Instead I post about what I believe can make a difference and that all of us can become leaders and difference makers in our communities. So ask yourself, what are you really looking for? Are you just chasing the latest news cycle, or are you trying to find a way to improve your life?
This post is a test. Maybe I am just “gaming” the system for one post. Maybe I am hoping that now that you are here, you will find out what I am all about and come back every now and then.
This is only a test
Life is the sum total of your beliefs, your choices and your actions. You do have a say in what you will become. Welcome back to 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo. It is your life, what do you plan to do with it?
Life is not what you own. Do not let the things you own define you. Life is not what how much money you make. Life is not what you do to make money. These are not the reasons we live, these are the reasons we work. Work can be a part of life, but life is so much more. Do not let your possessions, your money or your job define you. Your life should be defined on how you treat others and what you do when the work is done. Are people better off because of you or in spite of you? What do people say about you when you are not around?
Your beliefs, your choices and your actions cause reactions. Do your actions and the reactions they cause make the world a better place, or are you only worried about yourself? If you make lots of money by lying, cheating and stealing from others; are you making the world a better place? If you own the finest things the world has to offer, but you will not help others; are you making the world a better place? If you work really hard, but at the end of the day you cause pain to others; are you making the world a better place? I do not believe you will be judged by the amount of money or possessions or work you have amassed in your life; I believe you will be judged by how well you helped others and if the world was better off because you were here.
I believe in the truth, I believe that facts support the truth and I believe that we should spread the facts so that people can find the truth for themselves. Are you a person who helps others find the truth or are you a person who spreads lies for personal gain? Your life is not about what you do for a living or what you purchase with the money you make; your life is about what you do to help others with the knowledge you have gained. The closer you can get to the truth and the more people you can lead to the truth; the world is a better place because of you.
Imagine for a moment, that you spent you whole life following and working for a very charismatic leader who could always find a way to get everyone excited. Everyone worked very hard for this leader and you we chosen to move up the ranks. The higher you rose through the ranks and the more you saw, the more you saw people saying one thing and doing another. They would tell people one thing to get them excited, but you found that they lived a different way with the money they we making. How would you feel if you had found out the all the money that you were making was based on a lie? Would you continue to spread the lie? How would you like it if all your efforts were causing pain to others?
You life is not based on what you own, or what you do for a living or how much money you make. Your life will be defined by the sum total of your beliefs, your choices and your actions. Are you a person who leads people to the truth or are you a person who spreads lies and hypocrisy? If I can only do one thing, it would be to try to get people to find out the truth for themselves. When my days are over, I hope the world was a better place because I was here.
Can you solve this?
! + ! = @
@ + @ = $
# + # = ^
What does ! + # equal?
So what if told you ! times ! equals ! and that @ times @ equals $
Can you solve it now?
So if # + $ = &, what does $ + % equal?
Can you figure it out?
Never underestimate the power of today. Never underestimate the power of right now. Think of each day as a blessing. Think of everyday as a gift. Start each day with the belief that you can make one better choice than you made the day before. Begin each day expecting to learn a new lesson. Hunger for this lesson and learn it. Learn something every day. Another day brings another chance.
Each night we dream; all of us should, most of us do. The problem is we wake up and forget the dream. We do not see the dream as a gift or a vision we should hold in our minds. Those of us who remember our dreams should take action to make them a reality. All of us should, some of us do. People who chase their dreams are happier than people who have lost sight of their dream. Have a vision, set a goal; everyday is a chance to take another step toward that goal.
Another day brings another chance. What are you going to do today? What are you going to do with your today? Most of us work to have a chance to chase our hobbies with our spare time. What are you going to do today to give you more spare time to chase your dream? What are you going to do with your today? Remember every day is a gift!
So today is not about a lot of words, it is about the power in the words. Today is about today! What are you going to do with your today? Another day brings another chance for you to chase your dreams. Start today! Never underestimate the power of right now!

Welcome to 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo. I try to inspire you, and really I just want to inspire myself. So here I am typing as fast as I can think and hoping it makes sense. Have you heard it said that people need to think outside the box? Well I say the best way to think outside the box is to never get in the box in the first place. Don’t allow yourself to believe we are made in some mold. We are all unique and we need to celebrate the fact that we will all never fit into the same box, but we can still learn from each other. Stay out of the box if you want to think outside the box.
Are you a self-starter? Can you work quickly in an ever-changing environment? Can you manage several projects and several customers? Does this sound like a lot of job descriptions? Why is it that we are all supposed to fit the mold in the corporate world to get a job, but then to be successful; book after book is written about thinking outside the box? Why is it that we identify success with a suit and a tie and working long hours so we can have the money to not have to wear a suit and tie and work long hours?
So to think outside the box, don’t get in the box in the first place. Be who you are and try to improve but never forget that you are unique. You were not made in a mold, you we hand crafted by God to be unique. Don’t try to fit into a box, try to find what is a good fit for you! Each of us has different skills and different personalities. The best fit for me may be the worst fit for you. I am not trying to put you in a box.
Listen the best way to figure out what you should be doing is to figure out who you are and what are your talents. Try to figure out the best way to use your gifts without getting forced into someone else’s vision of who you are and who you should become. The Big House, the Nice Car, the way you dress are all trappings of the box that is marketed to us. We are supposed to live and act a certain way to be measured as a success. Whose standards are we chasing? Our own or something someone else has agreed on? The best way to think outside the box is to never get trapped in the box.
Imagine for a second my father was a plumber, and owned a plumbing business in New England. What if he wanted me to take over the family business, but I want to push an Ice Cream Cart on the beach in California and play guitar in the bars on the weekend. So my Dad’s version of success and my version could be radically different. Success for me may be chasing a record contract while success to my dad may be opening a second family store.
Innovation does not come when we all think the same way. Innovation comes when people who disagree work together to find a new way, or someone brings something new to the table. You can be that person. What makes you special? You must know your own talents and your own personality. You have to know what you bring to the table. Trying to be like everyone else will not put you in the place to bring anything new into the picture. Stay out of the box.
You were not made in a mold. You were hand crafted for greatness. The more you try to fit in a box, the less you will remember what makes you special. The best way to think outside the box is to never get in the box.
Make up your mind that you can be great! I am here to tell you that you can be great, but it will not happen by accident. You must work at it. There are Five Simple Steps, the A.E.I.O. and U of being great. So I will break them down for you and I hope you will give them a try. The A, E, I, O, U, of being Great!
A is for Action, E is for Energy, I is for Idea, O is for Opportunity and U is for Unique! Do you want to be the best? What is being the best anyway? Is the most popular the best? Is the most technically proficient the best? How about the one with the most money, are they the best? I don’t know how to tell you how to measure being the best, but I know that you can be great if you just look out for five simple things. The A, E, I, O, U of being great are, action, energy, idea, opportunity, and uniqueness.
Do you have an Idea? It starts with an Idea. Now you may have thought I was going to say it starts with Action, but that is not the case. If you have an Idea, then you should act on it; but the Idea needs to come first. So if you get a great Idea, then you need to act on it.
Now as you act you have to measure the amount of energy you are appling to your idea and what kind of results that you want to get for the energy you are putting into your actions. Think about it, no one wants to buy an automobile that only get 2 miles to the gallon, or maybe 1 kilometer to the liter of gasoline do they? Not unless they have a lot of money and want to buy a race car. So your Idea, Your Action and Your Energy will put you on track to be great. Stay with it, work at it and don’t let someone else define your greatness.
Let’s back track a minute, who was the greatest artist of all time? There is no way to define that is there? There is no denying that there were many greats in history. What matters is getting a chance to take your shot at greatness. There are lots of great artists you may have never heard of who were very influential in the underground, but maybe not very popular. So a big part of being considered great is Opportunity. Do you get a chance to make your mark or do you get swept under by the tide? If you get a chance, take it. You have everything to gain and nothing to lose as long as you are willing to learn. You may get one opportunity or you may get a series of chances. Stay in the game.
Now the real key to Greatness is one question? What makes you different from everybody else out there who wants to take their shot at greatness? What makes you unique? Idea, Action, Energy, and Opportunity can all line up, but if there is nothing that makes you special you have not got yourself ready to really take your chance. You can be great, but you will not be great trying to be like everyone else. Let your uniqueness shine! You had an idea, and you put your time and effort in; do not let someone put you in a box and rob you of what makes you special! Be great at what you do!
What is the best way to be a leader? I have read a few books and I have been put in the position where I had to either lead, follow or get out-of-the-way. I have done all three to varying degrees of success. This is why I believe that I know a good leader when I see one. I have also learned what it takes to be seen as a good leader and I have also been called a bad leader. So what is the best type of leader? Hands-On Servant Leadership!
A Servant Leader is a leader who puts those around them before themselves. Hands-On Servant Leadership means you actually put your hands to work at the business at hand. You lead by example as a service to others. People will learn more from you, they will respect you more and they will work harder for you. How many times have you seen a Manager delegate almost everything they do and then be the first to place blame instead of trying to fix the problems? How many times have you heard it said you should be a self-starter and a leader and be pro-active while you are surrounded by people who grandstand and fight fires? Isn’t it better to be the one who prevents the fire? Isn’t it better to show others how to prevent fires with hands on demonstrations? Servant Leaders focus on fire prevention. Hands-On Leaders can demonstrate and teach how to get things done.
A Leader does not have to be the best at everything, but should put people in the position to be the best. The best way to get the best out of people is to earn their respect and their trust. Would you trust a leader who blames others for their failures? Would you trust a leader who can always say what went wrong but can never see things coming? Could you trust a leader who cannot practice and teach what they preach? Don’t be that person. If you know how to do something teach others. If you expect people to know something, put them in a position and environment where they can learn hands on.
A day’s worth of teaching is better than a year’s worth of preaching. Be the kind of leader who shows people what you know and let others show what they know. Everyone is better off if everyone gets a chance to learn and share. A servant leader is more concerned about the good of the team first. A hands-on servant leader demonstrates what they know, allows others to take the lead and provides a learning environment when they don’t know something. Be that leader that listens to those around them.
