Pull Together or Teat Apart:

Pull Together or Teat Apart:

Doesn’t it seem like everyone is pushing and pulling each other in different directions? Family, Job, Friends, Faith; there never seems to be enough time to make it all fit. Even if you just limit the conversation to work; how many times have you seen people who work together, people who are supposed to have common goals working against each other? How many times have you heard the term, push back? Everyone seems to be pushing and pulling, but who is trying to work together?

Does it seem like your job takes you way from your family; or your friends take you away from your faith? Or is it some other combination of things that should be working together but seem in reality to be at odds? All of this running around in circles takes a lot of energy just to get back to where you started. Everyone pulling you in different directions takes a lot of energy just to hold yourself together. Would things be better if people agreed to work together, to pull together than to be pushing back and forward against each other?

Pull together or tear apart: Which one is it? This is why common ground and common direction is so important. If I am in New York, and I wish to head to London then it would not be wise to board a plane bound for California. Pushing back and forward means that people sometimes have to go way out of their way to get where they are going. Pulling together means that people are working together and heading in the same direction: Doesn’t that sound like the way it should be?

So I ask you again, home many times have you heard the term push-back? Does it make you wonder that people know they are over working each other? Doesn’t it seem like people know how much work fits into a week and when they are over loading their manpower? Would a Leader realize this? Wouldn’t a Leader sense this? Then why is all the pushing and pulling that is going on considered good management. Pull together or tear apart. If you searched for these terms you found this post, did you search for push back, or pull together or tear apart? Either way, I blog about what I think about. I let my mind examine my thoughts. I let my mind wander and hope my fingers can type fast enough to keep up.

I have heard the term “Push Back” so many times, I can only wonder why people don’t pull together. I have blogged about the fact that Teamwork does not always work, and that a “Team Player” is no longer something people look forward to hearing. All this pushing and pulling and how many people look forward to going to work? Are people moving forward? Are people spending lots of energy to just hold it together? Why not work together? Why not pull together? Given the choice between Pull Together and Tear Apart, I choose Pull Together.

Never let fear be your only option.

“Success means options.” Chris Rock as Paraphrased by Oprah Winfrey

“Danger is very real, but fear is a choice.” Will Smith in After Earth.

Never let fear be your only option. I say this to you because I know fear, and I have to make a choice not to be afraid. I had to make a choice to explore options instead of being afraid. This is why I tell you, never let fear be your only option. Search your mind, find a quite place and learn to consider that you have options. Welcome to 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo, where I try to spread a message of hope.

Many times fear can be a motivator. This is not a good motivator, but it can be used as a motivator by those who crave power in all the wrong ways. I have heard it said “It is better to be fear than loved.” I am sorry, I do not think this way. So I will continue to blog and continue to sharpen my message until maybe I am being quoted one day. When fear is you only option, you will do things you do not like to do, or even want to do to get what you think you need. Never let fear be your only option.

Let me explain in the simplest way that I can. Why do people work jobs they do not like and work around people they do not like? Out of fear of losing their job, people put up with this out of fear they may lose their main source of income and not be able to replace that income. Luckily I have been that person who believes you can always find another job. I do my best to work around people I like doing something that I believe I can do well. That does not mean that I have never feared losing my job, it means I do not like being in a situation where fear is my only option. I am not going to give you some fancy acronym for fear, it has been done before; I am going to challenge you to find a quite place and explore all your options.

Now do not let me down play the fact that danger is real. There are certain places on this earth that are very dangerous. There are certain people on this earth who will put you in danger as a form of control over you. I am not saying I can stop this from happening, I am very much saying that I realize this is a fact. I also realize that you must, must, must not limit yourself by believing that fear is your only option. You must find enough peace of mind to explore all your options. Never let fear be your only option. Peace, Hope, Courage, Love, Wisdom are all strong places where you can find more choices. Fear will do it’s best to crowd these concepts out of your mind. Don’t let it. Keep your mind engaged, and never let fear be your only option.

Now let me take you back to my example. If you are worth what you are being paid, than you can find another job that can pay you as much or more than you are making now; but it is up to you to find that job. The job will not find you; very rarely will a new job just fall out of the sky. You must put forth effort to find your next move; you must explore your options. Are you willing to help others? Are you willing to learn from and teach others? Are you willing to take on more responsibility? If you are than you have options, you only need to find them. Never let fear be your only option, always have faith. Find a quite place where you can train you mind to increase your knowledge and wisdom. Find a way to walk in love of others. Yes; I realize Danger can be very real, but fear is a choice.

Most Mojo Nations:

Most Mojo Nations:

Say that really fast a few times; Most Mojo Nation. Ok, so I am always searching for insights and trying to find some humor in the quest. For whatever reason, no matter how feeble my attempts to move my blog into a viral thing; most people reach my blog through seemingly random searches. Now since I am not a “Pro” at Search Engine Optimization, I continue to look for insights. Today’s post, what are the Most Mojo Nations in the world?

So to qualify, I figure I would do some fuzzy math. Which nations seem to be searching and finding topics or keywords that I have been posting the most often? So I asked myself, what is a good cutoff; once a month, once a week, once a day? So for the sake of argument, the cutoff is ten times a month for a year. So here is the list, in reverse order of the nations around the world who have found their way to 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo at least Ten Times a Month for a Year.

First up is a sovereign city-state and island country in Southeast Asia: Please welcome Singapore

Next Up is a federal constitutional monarchy also located in Southeast Asia: Give it up for Malaysia

Third on the list is a country located at the southern tip of Africa. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you South Africa

Now we head to a sovereign island country in Southeast Asia situated in the western Pacific Ocean: Can I get a round of applause for the Philippines

The next country is technically a continent joined with numerous smaller islands: I give you Australia

Next on the list is a country in North America consisting of 10 provinces and 3 territories. Can I get a warm welcome for Canada?

Next is the second-most populous country with over 1.2 billion people. The Most Mojo Nation Bronze medal goes to India

The Silver Medal Most Mojo Nation is a sovereign state located off the north-western coast of continental Europe: Let’s hear it for the United Kingdom

And now for the moment you have all been waiting for, proving that there is no place like home; the Gold Medal Winner for the Most Mojo Nation goes to the United States

So, I am sorry if I went a little bit game show host in the introductions; well really I am not sorry. I am just trying to have fun. Now the questions that comes to mind is why do I seem to be trending mostly in the North Atlantic and the South Pacific. Is it because that is where the most English is being spoken, or is it some other reason. I am sure I could pay someone to try to figure it out, or I could just enjoy the ride. I choose to enjoy the ride, I hope you have also.

Thank you for finding me on the Interweb, I will see you next time.

Be your own Superhero:

Be your own Superhero:

Have you thought about it? If you could have a super-power what would you pick? If you had a Super-Power, would you keep it hidden or would you become a Super-Hero? Have you thought about it? What kind of Super-Hero would you become if you had your own Super-Power? So why not unlock your imagination and become the Super-Hero you have kept buried inside of you.

Be your own Super-Hero:

Let your imagination run wild. That is where all the Super-Heroes came from anyway. People dreamed up Super-Heroes and Super-Powers and told stories and painted pictures and made movies and hopefully, maybe they inspired some people along the way. You can be a Super-Hero without getting dressed up in a crazy cartoon outfit. You can become a Super-Hero if you just let your imagination take hold for a moment. Remember all the stuff people told you that you were crazy for believing? Remember all the times that you wished that someone would help you reach your dreams instead of walking all over them. Why not be that person to someone else? Why not help someone else reach their dream if all you do is encourage people who remind you of what it was like when you were young.

Be your own Super-Hero:

If you help others reach their dreams, you will learn it is not too late for you to reach your dreams! If you help other tap into their Super-Power, you will tap into your own Super-Power. If you turn someone else into a Super-Hero, you will unleash your own Super-Hero. You can be your own Super-Hero. You just have to let your imagination run wild.

Be your own Super-Hero:

If everyone is delegating, nothing is getting done.

Delegation: Some people think that delegation is good management. Delegate – to give or commit (duties, powers, etc) to another as agent or representative: I have seen people delegate their work to others in small doses and it is better than micromanagement. Delegating your work in large doses creates a large buffer and can cause resentment. Too much delegation can cause an environment of distrust and resentment. Too much delegation can make you wonder; if everyone is just passing their work off to others, what exactly is getting done? If you are constantly delegating your work to others, why are you needed? I say that if everyone is delegating, nothing is getting done.

Everyone thinks that managers are by default leaders. I do not agree. A Manager that can motivate others to be the best they can be by transferring a vision that everyone can agree on is a Leader. So to either extreme are the Micro-Manager and the Macro-Delegator. The Micro-Manager feels the need to do everything and the Macro-Delegator feels the need to have everyone else do everything. The Micro-Manager makes you feel like you are not capable of doing anything right. The Macro-Delegator makes you feel like they are not capable of doing anything right. A Manager that is a Leader can motivate by creating an environment where everyone can excel and feel good about their accomplishments.

So imagine for a minute if everyone is just delegating who is doing the work? Sooner or later, someone has got to do the work. I get it, there needs to be someone who can divide the work equally so that everyone can learn and grow and excel at the things they are good at doing. Managers need to understand that being in authority is not enough to bring out the best in the people who work with and for you. Leadership is not Micro-Managing and Leadership is not Macro-Delegating. Leadership is setting an example that others feel compelled to follow.

There is a lot of energy that goes into people delegating and pushing people beyond their limits. There is a lot of energy that goes into the backlash, the push back when people over-step their boundaries. There is a lot of energy in the pushing back and forward. There is a lot of wasted energy in everyone trying to delegate as the “New” Leadership or Management Style. Too much delegation leads to a lot of wasted energy. There is a balance that needs to be maintained between doing the work and showing others how to do the work. There is a balance between being a Manager who is a Leader or a Manager that seems to fall to one side or the other; Micro-Manager or Macro-Delegator. Why do people follow the Bad Leadership of either of these Managers? The fear or losing their jobs is usually more than enough reason.

If I have said it once, I will say it again; being a Manager does not by default make you a Leader. I have learned a lot from bad management because I take the time to ask the question; what is wrong with this situation? I question Management and Leadership styles based on what I have read and the Leadership I am compelled to follow. I again understand the need to delegate and I understand the need to show people you are capable; I am just very strongly compelled to also state that a Leader finds the balance between setting an example and teaching others to excel at what they do. A Good Leader motivates more than they delegate. If everyone is delegating, nothing is getting done!

Today is your day.

Today is your day.

Declare it. Look in the mirror and say it!

“Today is my day.”

Did you do it? Did you wake up and declare it? Did you say it like you meant it or did you just say it?

Today is your day. It starts with you and how you will face today. Will you do one thing different and will you learn one thing new? Will you face the day with the belief that you can make a difference?

Let’s try it again, look in the mirror and declare today is your day.

“Today is my day!”

As you can see, I don’t use capital letters to shout at you when I blog. If it is not worth saying, don’t say it. But if it worth saying, it is worth believing. Today is your day. Make today matter. Make it count. Believe in the power of your day, today. Have you heard of “Another Day, Another Dollar?” Have you heard of “Same Stuff, Different Day?” Have you heard of “Same Old Same Old?” Choose not to believe it! Change your today! Change today! Today is your day. Say it with me.

“Today is my day!!!”

Your story matters! Make it count.

Your story matters! Make it count.

Your story, no matter what you are going through; matters! You have the power to inspire, you have to power to make a connection with someone who may be going through something similar. Make your story count.

It is very simple, tell your story. Write it down, post it on-line. Your story will matter to people who are in a similar situation or what to accomplish things similar to what to have accomplished. Telling your story matters. It also matters that you make it count.

Make your story count. Try to inspire. Challenge others to make things better than they are now. Challenge yourself to make things better and make a positive impact in the lives of others. This is how your story will count! The things we post online have the potential to live forever. The things we post online have the potential to spread like wild-fire. The things we post on-line have the potential to connect from anywhere from one person to literally millions of people. What message will you send?

Will your message be what you had for dinner last night? Will you praise those who have helped you or will you punish those who did you wrong? Will you tell truth or lies? Will you try to be a positive or negative impact? Or will you only try to draw attention or pity to yourself? You have control over what you post and how you present it. You have the power to make your story matter and make your story count.

It is simple, just start. It is simple, tell your story. It is simple, learn as you go. It is simple, try to be an inspiration for others. It is simple, make your story matter. It is simple, make your story count!

30 Views in 30 Days:

I am not sure what I am doing. I am not sure why some posts seem to get more views than others. I just keep blogging. I just keep trying. I think anyone can do it. I think you could be the next blogger to sign up and type up your thoughts. I keep searching for patterns. So today, I present to you Post that were viewed 30 times in the past 30 days.

T.R.U.S.T:

T.R.U.S.T. – Truth, Responsibility, Unity, Service and Transparency; do not give your trust unless you receive each of these items.

Why the easy way out is the hardest and worse option.

If everyone seems to be going one way, ask yourself; is that the way you want to go?

Why Teamwork sometimes doesn’t work.

When a team fails, there is a valuable lesson to be learned.

The Selfless Leader:

A Selfless Leader does everything they can to help give people the tools they need to succeed on their own right.

Standing up for what you believe in is the right thing to do.

Do you stand up for what you believe in even if it means you might lose a few friends?

There is no U in Team either.

There is no “I” in “Team.” Have you ever heard that famous line? Seems like the people who say that are the ones who are seeking the promotions. The one’s who throw around the team phrases, a lot of time you should be careful; they can also be the most self-serving. So here at 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo, I like to shake things up a bit. I like to look at things from a different angle. There is no “I” in “Team” and there is no “U” in “Team” either.

There is no “U” in “Team” either. Have you ever wondered how the phrase “Team Player” seems to be a negative thing more than a positive thing anymore? Usually when someone needs you to be a team player, it means they want you to do the dirty work and the extra work and the inconvenient work that no one else wants to do. No one wants to hear the magic phrase “Take one for the team,” because it means they have been singled out. So what went wrong?

Other times when you hear someone saying “Team this” and “Team that” they are the ones who want to take all the credit for other people’s work. This is what happens when Leadership and Management are so focused on the bottom line that they do not recognize who is actually doing the work. It is great to be results driven and bottom line focused, but not at the expense of people. So what went wrong?

Not all Management is True Leadership. Not all Leadership is Servant Leadership. So I am here not as a Millionaire Leadership or Management Superstar, but I am here as a guy who is ready to challenge the Status Quo thinking. The reason that Team Work and Team Player gets a bad reputation is that short sighted Management does not really know who is doing the work, and Leaders who are driven only by the bottom line are more worried about making themselves look good than how well the team performs. The only really answer is Servant Leadership.

Servant Leadership is focused on creating the best possible environment and outcomes for everyone involved. Servant Leaders understand that a team works best together when the team knows the Leadership is willing to set the best example. Servant Leaders understand that the way to set the best example is to take their turn in the rotation of doing the inconvenient work to show the others on their team that they are ready and willing to do anything they ask of someone else.

There is no “U” in “Team” means you never get the feeling that someone is saying “You do the work and I take the credit.” Being part of a team should not be presented as punishment, it should always be an honor and a privilege and the Leader of the Team should be the one who realizes this the most. The Leader of any Team should feel honored that people want to follow them, and they should serve the team before they serve themselves. All of this advice I give freely, so check it for yourself, make up your own mind.

How have Leadership and Management gone so far astray that they have failed to see when their team operates out of fear? When Leadership is focused on bottom line results instead of the good of the team; then the whole concept of teamwork suffers. Usually people who have never been on a real team lead by a Servant Leader dread the thought being a Team Player. There is no “I” in “Team” and there is no “U” in “Team” either. Either you win and lose as a team or there really is no team. Servant Leaders understand that sometimes people need to sacrifice for the good of the team, and they are the first to sacrifice to set the best example and not use that sacrifice as punishment. There is no “U” in “Team” either.

Relay for Life:

Relay for Life, Relay for Life: Heritage Park, May 17th

This is the little song I was singing this morning as I was raising money for Relay for Life. I was on the side of the road with my wife and two other members of her team. We are Team Rockers, even though I am not officially signed up yet. I have helped out the last couple of years. It doesn’t even matter to me if any of the money goes in my name. I know my intentions and I have heard that intention is all that really matters.

Every time I sang it, every time I made that lap from the Curb out in front of the cars at the Red Light, walking along the line between the turn lane and one of the through traffic lanes, handing out lollipops and information about the Relay for Life event, shaking my Gallon Jug trying to fill it one dollar or one hand full of loose change at a time. Each time was like another time at bat or another time stepping on stage for a quick 30 second concert. Sometimes the lanes would be empty, like playing to any empty house. Sometimes there would be cars that would ignore me, like striking out in baseball. Sometimes the lanes would be full and I would get Eighty Seven Cents in spare-change; or a Dollar Bill or maybe even Five or Ten Dollars, like a hit song or a home run.

Sometimes I felt like I should be in a Chicken Suit or a Dancing Bear Costume, people would tell me I looked like I was having fun. I was trying to make it fun, thinking that everyone should take an afternoon and shake a tin cup or a gallon for their favorite cause. If I say others should do it, then I should do it. I should do what I think, I should do what I say because the world is full of ideas but actions and intentions are what really matters. It is not about talking about it, it is about making up your mind and doing; you lose nothing by trying. You learn everything by doing.
