Not Just Another Monday

Hello, today is Monday.  Though you may read this on a Tuesday or a Wednesday.

Today is Monday, but it is not just another Monday.  This Monday is today and today I make up my mind to do something special, no matter what the world throws at me.  Now you can do the same thing today, if you are reading this on a Monday, but if you are reading this on a Tuesady or Wednesday, you can still make up your mind to do something speical today!

The only thing you have to do to do something speical today is be the best you that only you can be.  Even if it is Thursday or Friday.  Seems like everyone want to save the best version of themself for Friday or Saturday or Sunday, but why not be the best you can be on a Monday also.

Today is Monday.  Make it a Super Happy Fun Day.  Make every Monday – Super Happy Funday and the rest of the week is easy.  Don’t make this just another Monday.  Do something great today!

Today is not just another Monday.  Make it something special!  Be the best you that you can be today!

What does your career path look like?

Stop for a minute. Think about this for just a minute.

What if I told you to run for your local school board? What if you ran and won? What if you then ran for City Council two year later and won that race also? What if you then ran for Mayor and won that after two years on City Council. Then what if you ran for State Senate, then Congress, then Governor, then Senator and then maybe after President? What if you kept winning every two years you moved higher and higher up in politics? Would your family and friends be proud of you? Would they be happy for you? Or would they criticize everything you do?

Stay with me for a minute, just another minute. What if you went to college and took business classes and then started working after graduation. You get a shot at a fast track program where you work for Six Months in Four Separate Areas of the Company. Then after Two Years they make you an Assistant Manager and then after a year or two you are managing your own Department. Every couple of years they move you into a new Department with Manger Level responsibilities. Then after 6 or 8 years of moving from one department to another you become a Director? Again would your family and friends be proud of you? Would they be happy for you? Or would they criticize everything you do?

So know, what if every year or two you switch jobs? How will your family and friends treat you? Will they tell you that you can’t keep a job? Would recruiters call you a job hopper? Will people even ask you the circumstances? If you are getting closer and closer to the job you always dreamed of, every time you switch jobs; you are on the right track. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. What does your career path look like?

Listen, there are only three types of jobs out there. The job you have, the job you need and the job you want. If you don’t have a job, find a job. If you have a job and it is not what you want, find the job you need to bridge the gap and get you closer to the job you want.

Job hoppers do not always just hop around because they are not working out, sometimes they are getting closer and closer to the job they want. It may be for any number of reason that someone switches jobs. I have heard that 70% of people switch jobs because of their boss. This does not speak to highly of Leadership, I can honestly say the number one reason for my job searches has been to find a better fit for my combined personal and professional life.

Job Hoppers get a bad reputation while people on the Fast Track have a Good Reputation, so how do we battle that perception. Keep your job search focused on what closely aligns with you Professional and Personal Goals. Never take a job purely because it pays a few dollars more than your current job. Look for opportunities to learn and grow professionally and look for opportunities that also fit your personal goals and your personality. If you and your bosses personalities do not mesh it does not mean that either of you are bad at your job, but there may be someone out their whom your bosses personality more closely aligns, just like there may be a Manager or Leader your may want to work with because they more closely align with your personality. What does your career path look like?

Do not worry if your family or friends understand. Some people where their length of service like a badge of honor. There is nothing wrong with finding a place you love to work and sticking to it. But that does not mean it will happen to all of us. The only thing we can count on is that times will change. Very few of us will be able to stick with One Company for life. Most industries are moving faster than ever. Will you let not looking limit your career choices?

Step one is to have some kind of goal in mind. Step two is to do a reality check. Step three is to make a plan on how you can move up inside and outside your company. Step four is to swing the bat. The last step is to realize no matter how well you have played, plans change. Change with the time. Improvise your plan not your goal. What does your career path look like?

Really honestly, what does your imagined career path look like? Can you find mentors and coaches where you are that can help you make it a reality? If so, stay where you are, if not, find them somewhere else. Sometimes if you and your boss do not fit well, it is win-win for you to move to another department or another company where there is a better fit for both parties.

Last but not least, do not let your family and friends pass judgment on you for changing jobs if they do not know or do not want to hear the details. You are the one who has to look forward to going to work every day. Find a job you look forward to going to everyday.

Again, remember; there is the job you have, the job you need and the job you want. Sometimes you may have to hop around once or twice to find not only the right job; but the right job at the right place and the right time, with the right team. What does your career path look like?

Zero Capital Sweat Equity Event Planning or Z.C.S.E.E.P.

Z.C.S.E.E.P:

Zero Capital Sweat Equity Event Planning or Z.C.S.E.E.P. Welcome to 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo where I try to make an Acronym out of just about anything.

Z.C.S.E.E.P: or Zero Capital Sweat Equity Event Planning is a technique I have been trying to Master and hope to teach others. I can break it down for you, but you have to give me a minute or two of your time. See I have worked as an Engineer for about 20 years and I have found out there are Acronyms for just about everything. And no one can agree so they make different acronyms for the same thing. So I figure why can’t I just make up a few along the way?

Zero Capital Sweat Equity Event Planning or Z.C.S.E.E.P.

So I have worked on launching processes and products and there is a concept of a Zero Capital Launch. This means the company will not invest any money into new capital. This means you have to salvage as much from the company’s existing stored inventory. Now for this case, it means if you are going to plan an event, you have to do the best you can to not spend any money. You can use free online tools to plan and promote your event. Let’s face it, people get their news from Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and all the other Social Media Tools as much as they do from Traditional Media outlets. You can use Free Email, Free Online Office Tools and even Free Conference Calling and Video Chatting. Who needs to spend money to get people involved?

Z.C.S.E.E.P: or Zero Capital Sweat Equity Event Planning:

So Zero Capital Event Panning or Z.C.E.P. should be easy to understand. But this is about Zero Capital Sweat Equity Event Planning or Z.C.S.E.E.P. so where does the Sweat Equity come into play? Lots of people who have been involved in Real Estate understand Sweat Equity.   When you buy a house and fix it up yourself before you sell it. The work you put in is called Sweat Equity. So what if you used social media to get a bunch of people together to clean up a park or start and after school program in your neighborhood. The work that people put in by volunteering would be Sweat Equity. Maybe you can find a sponsor to buy t-shirts and provide snacks. See people are not getting paid a salary; they are putting in Sweat Equity.

Z.C.S.E.E.P: or Zero Capital Sweat Equity Event Planning: The opposite of Pyramids and Ponzi Scams.  Too many times people fall for get rich quick schemes or believe they can make something out of nothing. Truth of the matter, most get rich schemes are based on you putting money in and then trying to hustle to get your money back out. Sign up to a system, buy a monthly minimum of product that you have to try to sell and get more people to sign up to your business. Does this sound familiar? So what if someone said, hey; let’s get a bunch of people together to volunteer at a food bank or a homeless shelter. Let’s partner with them and do volunteer drives and fund raisers and let’s use Social Media to spread the word. Zero Capital Sweat Equity Event Planning:

Z.C.S.E.E.P

So maybe I have to work on this Acronym? Z.C. S.W.E.E.P. or Zee-See-Sweep: What do you think? What if you could join a group on LinkedIn of Facebook where you could encourage people and then find other people who think the same way? Then you could invite people to get involved in their community? That is the purpose of the Point Of Light Network. Why not join us? The Point of Light Network! Join us On LinkedIn: & Facebook. How much do you believe in what you do?

How much do you believe in what you do?

Welcome to Impact – 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo. In truth, I started this blog to motivate myself. I wanted to see if I could find something, anything good to say once or twice a week. This blog started as an online Motivational diary and as a step in my quest to become a Motivational Speaker.

The Beacon of Hope Challenge was a quote of the day challenge I promoted on LinkedIn and also started an Impact Group there. The Point of Light Network grew out of the Beacon of Hope Challenge. A bunch of people who were leaving daily good news posts wanted to get together and host a Motivational Workshop. We were spread out all across North America so we settled on Milwaukee Wisconsin for a weekend planning session. So like any startup we planned for the Big Dream. Now years later I have learned from the reality. Good things take time.

Self-Motivational-Quotes-Desktop-Wallpapers-Yogesh-Goel-ygoel.com-1

How much do you believe in what you do?

I have not given up the dream. No, I have only become more driven to see it become reality. But I have also learned from the mistake of thinking that everything will fall into place because we just hope for it to fall into place. Every idea, every post, every word spoken requires action. If people will not chase their own ideas, then others will not just do it for them. Not without a lot of money or authority behind it that is to say. So I live and I learn and I dream on.

How much do I believe I can make a difference without throwing a bunch of money at a problem? I want to see it bad enough to keep blogging and posting and searching for people who will work together, not because they are paid to or forced to; but work together because they want to work together. So here I am, on quest to find 100 jobs for 100 people and to spread the word about getting involved at places like Food Banks and Homeless Shelters. I am looking to bring together Bloggers, Speakers, Volunteers, Recruiters and HR Reps to pull off the trifecta. Motivational Workshops, Career Fairs and Volunteer Drives all rolled into one. This will take time, but good things take time. I am in no hurry.

Everything is possible

How much do you believe in what you do?

I was in a hurry once, and I learned from it. It will happen when it is supposed to happen; now I am supposed to keep pushing for it to happen and asking for help.  So I ask for your help. Join us On LinkedIn: & Facebook. Post good news and share your story. Invite people to join you when you volunteer. Give back to your community!

How much do you believe in what you do? Do you do it for the money? Do you do it so that others can learn and grow from what you do? Do believe enough to stay at it as it ebbs and flows, shrinks and grows, appears to be broken and needs fixing? I do. I am still here. I am still blogging and I am still asking people to pay it forward without worrying about where the money will come from. Pay it forward in kind words and kind deeds. Work together and volunteer for charity. I am not asking anyone to put themselves in harm’s way or believe they have to invest in a system to get rich quick. I believe it because I can see it, even if others don’t see it yet.

How much do you believe in what you do?

What should you do when your family does not support your dream?

What should you do when your family does not support your dream?

Keep dreaming, keep going, keep learning and keep growing. Welcome to Impact 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo. I was just watching the Super Bowl and the whole world saw Eli Manning’s reaction to Big Brother Peyton Manning winning his Second Super Bowl in four tries. You have to wonder; why Eli who is surrounded by his happy family is so sad.

Don’t let your family or your friends kill your dreams. Keep dreaming, keep going, keep learning and keep growing. Family Rivalries are nothing new. Some of the top Movie Stars and Musicians have gone through it; so learn from it, your dreams are your dreams. Your family may not supportive or may not be happy for you. You may have to be happy for yourself. Your friends may try to hold you back, you may have to find new friends; this is all part of learning and growing.

I am not going to go on and on about the fact that you family and friends may not know who to support your dream, they may not be happy for you. They may be jealous of the fact that you have a dream that is different from theirs; or maybe they do not have a dream at all. Keep dreaming, keep going, keep learning and keep growing.

That scene in Fred Claus nails the whole issue. The only problem is that was a movie. You may not be so lucky to have a Siblings Anonymous Support Group near you.

Keep dreaming, keep going, keep learning and keep growing.

Mojo Rising:

Mojo Rising:

I started this blog, 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo in 2011: I published twenty posts and waited for people to find me. In 2012 I went from less than 100 views the year before to over 5000 views. I was happy that 10 or 15 people a day were checking in on what I had to say. I tried to post something every couple of days, 3 times a week on average, 185 posts for the year. Did I really have that much to say or was I just saying the same things over and over.

4 Years of Growth

Here I am in 2016 and my blog has continues to grow.  No it has not gone viral and I am not a web sensation or a big time author or speaker. I am just some guy who holds down a corner of social media and even though I have thousands of connections on LinkedIn and Facebook, most people find me via Google.

Now I post once or twice a week and I get more views in a year than when I was posting three times a week. Do I still post the same things over and over? Pretty much, I tell people to think, speak, act and learn from doing. I tell people to give back and make a difference in their community. I believe we can make the word a better place, but it has to be on purpose. It will not happen if we don’t get involved. So get involved. Don’t wait for someone else. Yes invite others, but if they don’t show up; go anyway.

Find a church or a charity and get involved. Spread good news over gossip and try to encourage others. So guess who is the hardest for me to get through to with my message???  The people closest to me. I don’t have a magic wand, I just have big dreams, big ideas and these things take time. So should I just give up?  Yeah that is what all the leadership books say.  All the Leadership Books say if your Family and Friends cannot see your dream you should give up right?

No, they say Dream Big. Learn by doing. Learn by studying and correcting your course of action. That the Overnight Success takes Ten Years; that you should help others be successful and all boats will rise with the tide. That you should listen to your inner voice and follow your bliss and the universe will pour out to you with the same measure that you give to others.  I believe in Seed Time and Harvest so I continue to Plant and Water. I cannot control the harvest. God gives the increase. Not on my time but His Time. So in time, I am thankful for everyone who takes the time to read this blog, but get involved and share your story.

Four years of blogging?

Four years of blogging?

Four years of spreading good news and trying to give quality advice, the kind of advice that I will follow. Four years of trying to build, from the ground up a motivational network of people who will encourage each other. Four years.

And what has it got me? A book deal: No, not yet. Any television n time: No, not yet. A movie deal with options on a sequel: No, not yet. So why do we do this again. Why do I do this again, blog in hopes of finding an audience?

I do this because I believe in seed time and harvest. My harvest may not have come in yet, but I plant seeds of good news and I water by trying and trying again, and encouraging others to try. I get peace of mind in knowing that I am trying to make things better by spreading good news instead of gossip. And I get to learn because I learn by doing, studying and mentoring others who are just getting started. I get to learn by talking to other people who are also blogging or speaking or networking and trying to help others. I learn because it is not enough for me to just blog, I want to make a difference by volunteering hands on so I go and help out when I can.   I want to make a difference so I invite others to join me when I can.

I could tell you that it is raining outside and my car won’t start; but I choose to tell you that no matter what you are going through to hold on, the sun will rise tomorrow.   I choose good news over bad. I choose the lesson over the pity party. I choose to want to make a difference instead of placing blame. I choose to keep blogging.

Four years of blogging and each year I reach more people. If only one person a day finds something I blog worthwhile, then maybe I can reach 365 people a year. If in 4 years 1000 people have found something worthwhile to hold onto from my quest to spread good news, then it is worth it.

No book deal, yet. No television interviews, yet. No movie options, yet. But in 2016 I hope to get out and speak more, I hope I can help produce some motivational and professional networking workshops. I also hope to help find 100 jobs for 100 people. I also hope I can volunteer once a month and invite others to join me. Four years of blogging and it has been worth it.

Thank you for tuning in. See you on the other side.

My Workout Plan by the Numbers

My Workout Plan by the Numbers

My workouts have changed over time. When I was in College, it was all about lifting heavy weights and building as much muscle as I could. As we get older things like time, energy and recovering from injury become more and more of a factor. Sooner or later those nagging little pains add up, hey “No pain no gain?” Right!

OK, so my workout has to answer this question. How much can I get done while power walking to rebuild my knees? How much workout can I pack into those laps around my apartment building or my roughly 3 mile power walks or can I even sneak a workout into my daily work routine. The answer is yes, now let me dive into the numbers and compare the way I used to work out (The Gym Membership Workout) to the way I work out now (The Recovery Plan)

When I work out in a fully stocked gym, I usually do the standards, Bench Press, Lat-Pull Down, Military Press, Squats and Leg Curls, Bicep Curls and Tricep Pushdowns. Let’s look close at the Bench Press – This is one of the classic, go heavy or go home moves the younger me would chase. I would try to lift 225 Pounds – Ten Times. This would give you a total Lift of 2250 Pounds right 225 Times 10. Now the funny thing about the bench Press, I could do 135 Pounds close to Thirty Times. This would be total lift of 4050 pounds, this is close to double the total weight. Now don’t kid yourself, lifting 135 pounds 30 times does not feel the same as 225 pounds 10 times. The heavier you go the stronger you will get and the more muscle you will build, and the more you increase your chance of getting hurt.

Barbell_Bench_Press

Now fast forward a few years, now a days I would much rather lift 135 Pounds 30 times, but I can’t do that while I am power walking. No, when I walk I carry 5 pound, 3 pound or 1 pound soft weights. I do not Bench Press, I Shadow Box in a similar motion. Now I may do 500 to 1000 reps of 5 pounds; or 2000 or 3000 reps of 3 pounds. This gives me total workouts of 2500, 5000, 6000 and 9000 pounds. I am not trying to tell you these workouts feel the same as working out in a gym with hundreds of pounds of weights. Not every close. But if you continue to push and push you can burn you muscle out and be very sore the next day. It is not the same pain, it is a different kind of pain; different pain, different gain.

Why I used to work out in the fully blown gyms, people called higher repetition sets, get cut. This is kind of true and kind of false. Muscle definition is a combination of working out and watching your diet. Now, you can get muscle definition and muscle size by doing lots and lots of low weight high repetition sets. Still have to watch the diet though.

Shadow Box

Now, I have posted that I use 5 Pound and 2.5 Pound Ankle Weights. I shoot for 5000 Steps while wearing the ankle weights. This would mean 25000 pounds of extra pounds lifting while power walking. That does not mean I can go in the gym and leg press 500 pounds, no I would probably lift 100 pounds as many times as I could. Again, Lighter weights and higher weights is a safer workout. I used to have a workout called the century sets, 100 repetition sets of light weights, 10, 15, 20 pound dumbbells or 50 pound barbells. Chasing the heaviest weights possible is a young man’s game. Avoiding injury and recovering from nagging aches and pains is a not so young man’s game. Fitness for life!

So when you combine 5000 steps and 1000 lifts into a single power walk workout I may do a total lifting workout in the neighborhood of 30,000 to 50,000 pounds. Hundreds if not thousands of reps with light soft weights; maybe it is not impressive by the bodybuilder workout magazine standards, but I know how much it hurts the next day. Total Body Pain equals Total Fitness Gain. Life is a marathon in my case, and I want to be renewed like the eagles every day. That is the promise I am chasing. To be well kept into my golden years.

Power Walk

There is no shame in my game. I run through sets of 20 curls, overhead lifts and shadow box punches with 5 or 3 pounds weights while walking 5000 or more steps with 5 pound or 2.5 pound ankle weights; the less weight, the more reps. I go until I can’t go anymore. Do I lose count of how many times I lift? Yes, I just work through the progressions. Do I lose count of how many steps I take? No, that is what my iFit is for!

Ranking the Seven Star Wars Movies:

Ranking the Seven Star Wars Movies:

Ok today I just want to have some fun. I have seen the 7th Star Wars movie thanks to my Step Son buying us tickets. So as a fan I had my own little ranking of the Seven Stars Wars Movie. Now because I tell people to do their homework, I did a little digging also.

6: Attack of the Clones.

Attack

Did you spot the Millennium Falcon? You had to love the scene of the Star Destroyers Lifting Off

5: Revenge of the Sith.

Revenge

Luke vs Obi-Wan, Yoda vs Darth Sidious; but you have to wonder how the Sith planned all that right under the nose of the Jedi.

4: Return of the Jedi.

Return

The 1st Appearance of the Emperor’s Force Lighting and Luke with his eyes turning Red, I rank Return of the Jedi as the Litmus Test

If you had never seen or lived Star Wars then I can see why you would rank this Number One; This movie is a great mashup of all things Star Wars and a hint at things to come.

New Hope

Listen Movie Fans. It goes like this. There was life before Star Wars and Life after Star Wars. This one started it all.

LIFE IN ONE DAY – HOWARD JONES 1985 hit – YouTube

Welcome to 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo. Today I hijack the lyrics to Howard Jones’ hit song, “Life In One Day.” So today maybe it is Motivational Hojo-Mojo, I don’t know. I will include a link to the video on YouTube. Why this song? Well today I was going through quite a bit so I cued it up on my CD player and let it rip.

Howard Jones Lyrics in Bold

My Comments are in Italic

Howard Jones – Life In One Day

“The old man said to me
Said don’t always take life so seriously
Play the flute
And dance and sing your song”

Hey so no matter what I am going through I should not take it too seriously?

I need to sing my song!

Try and enjoy the here and now
The future will take care of itself somehow
The grass is never greener over there
Time will wear away the stone
Gets the hereditary bone

I need to remember the future will take care of itself somehow!

[Chorus]
Don’t try to live your life in one day
Don’t go speed your time away
Don’t try to live your life in one day
Don’t go speed your time away

Sometimes we need to slow down no matter what we are going through, good or bad!

The old man said to me
Said you can’t change the world single handedly
Raise a glass enjoy the scenery

I can’t do it all myself

Pretend the water is champagne
And fill my glass again and again
While the wolves are gathering round your door

OK so maybe the wolves will be after me, but I should enjoy what I have

Time will wear away the stone
Gets the hereditary bone

[Chorus]

The old man said to me
Said don’t always take life so seriously
Play the flute
And dance and sing your song

I need to sing my song!

Try and enjoy the here and now
The future will take care of itself somehow
The grass is never greener over there
Time will wear away the stone
Gets the hereditary bone

I need to remember the future will take care of itself somehow!

I tried to live my life in one day
Don’t go speed your time away

I bit off more than I can chew
Only so much you can do

Ok, I bit off more than I can chew so I need to learn from it!

Wolves are gathering round my door
Ask them in and invite some more

OK so maybe the wolves will be after me, but I should enjoy what I have

I tried to live my life in one day
Don’t go speed your time away

Don’t try to live your life in one day
