What happens to us when we grow up?

What happens to us when we grow up?  When do we lose those childhood dreams?  When do we lose the drive and will to believe we can be heroes?  What happens to us when we grow up?

Welcome to 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo.  I am here to challenge you to reach back and chase your childhood dreams.  I am here to challenge you to help motivate others to chase their dreams.  I am here to spread good news.  I am here to challenge you to spread good news also.

I have a bunch of nephews’ in-law.  One of them was born on my birthday / anniversary.  He had three little brothers.  All four of them are six years and under.  I get to see them on birthdays and holidays.  They all want to be super=heroes.  Except for the youngest one, he is too young to talk.  He just smiles at you, and blinks and grabs your hand; that is what infants do.  The six-year old loves to play and the four-year old wants to run and jump and cannot wait to be big; like his brother.  The two year old wants you to chase after him. They all want to be super-heroes, Spiderman, Batman, The Flash, The Green Arrow and of course they love the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

What happens to us when we grow up?  When do we lose the will to be superheroes?  I like asking kids what they want to be when they grow up.  Then I tell them to get good grades and work together so they can be superheroes together.  Being a hero is easy.  Dream like a child and help other people chase their dreams.  I try to be the grown up that will give the kid that one piece of advice that will stick with them so they do not give up on their dreams.

As we get older, we are told to stay in school, keep quiet and don’t draw attention to ourselves.  We are told to follow the rules and grow up and get a job.  We are told to work hard but; we are basically helping someone who sits on top of it all reach their dream.  What about our dreams?  What about our goals?  What a about being a superhero?  What happens to us when we grow up?

Do you want to be the grownup that kills a kid’s dreams; or do you want to be the grownup that helps a kid reach their dreams?  I want to build a secret lab for superhero training.  I want to be the adult that tells kids to run faster and jump higher and look out for each other while looking out for cars in the street.  I want to help people reach their childhood dreams and spread good news.  What happens to us when we grow up?  What makes us want to kill each other’s dreams?

My life philosophy is simple.  Spread good news.  Challenge others to do the same.  That only advice worth giving is the advice that you are living.  Tap into those childhood dreams.  Help others reach their dreams.  Really, how hard is that?  What happens to us when we grow up?

Every cloud has a silver lining.

Greetings from Cold and Snowy Michigan. I have a pretty long drive to work ever morning. I have driven all over Metro Detroit and South Eastern Michigan for work. I have noticed cars stranded on the road and from time to time. I have noticed enough to where instead of just driving by, I try to say a little prayer for every car I see on the side of the road. I can’t always stop and help, but I can take a minute to pray for there safe passage.

I think we can at least pray for each other. I have tried to keep my transportation running while traveling for work. I try to change the oil at the full service places to make sure they check all the little extras. So when my car acts up a little, I know it is not for lack of tender loving car. So when my car was wobbling a little during a snow fall, I thought it was more because I was not used to the 4 wheel drive more than anything else.

Again, I made it home and later that night, I took out the trash and noticed my rear driver side tire was completely flat. It was cold and dark and I had to take my wife’s car to get some fix-a-flat and then take the car up to the gas station for more air. The next day I had to wait in to get new tires and make up a little extra time, flex time. Yes, it was an inconvenience, but I had to stop myself and remember I was not stranded on the side of the road. I was safe and sound at home. Every cloud has a silver lining.

So when you pass a car on the side of the road, if you can not stop and help. Say a little prayer.

The habit of doing.

The habit of doing.

Every week I tell myself I need to update my blog. Every week.  Now mind the fact that I have been posting quotes in motivational groups on LinkedIn and Facebook almost every day.  Also, consider the fact that I have been busier than ever at this point and time in my life.

No complaints. I see a world full of possibility.  I am just stating a fact that tell yourself to do something is not doing.  It does not matter if it is something you need to do or something you want to do.  Something for your job, your hobby, your family, your friends or for yourself.  Do not create a habit of just thinking about it, or telling yourself, you need to do it.  Create a habit of doing.  Create a habit of doing something positive, do something for others and do something for yourself.  Do something that puts you one-step ahead at work or one better at your hobby.  Create a habit of doing.

The world will not change if we only think about change. We have to create the change.  Be the change you want to see in the world.  Create a habit of doing!

Persistence pays off!

You can choose to have a great day today!

Today’s message is short and sweet.

Have a nice day.

Do not let anyone take your smile away.

No not today.

Do not give in to bad news, spread good news.

You can choose.

You can choose to have a great day today!

Have a nice day, today

Do you have something worth saying?  Do you?  Do you feel like it is impossible to make a difference?  Now I have one final question.  Have you tried?

Changing the word is not easy, but it is simple.  First and foremost you must have something to say.  Then you must have something worth doing.  Even with those things, the world will not change.  You then have to spread the word and do the work.  Even then the world may not change, but at least you have tried.

I started blogging a few years ago.  I blogged and I kept it quite.  I waited for people to find me.  Guess what, nothing happened.  Then I started inviting and challenging others to do one simple thing, spread good news. Slowly but surely I started connecting and linking with people who felt the same way.  Did we agree on everything?  No; but we agreed on one simple thing, to spread good news.  Did everyone stay?  No; some people came and went and did their own thing.  Did that stop me?  No; I vowed that if I could just reach one person it would be worth it.  I am reaching people one click at a time.  On LinkedIn and on Facebook and thanks to search engines and linking to the News Herald Blog Section in my town; I am reaching people one click at a time.

So has the world changed?  I am not sure if I have helped or not; I may not be able to change the world, but maybe I can get through to one or two people here and there and set an example that no matter what I am going through, I can find one good thing to say every day.  At least once a week or so I can take an hour and write in my blog and post it for people to find.  Find something good about every day and share it.  Invite others to do the same.  Maybe the world can change on click at a time.

So here we are in 2016 and 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo is reaching 110 Countries around the world.  One mouse-click at a time; Yes believe it or not, I have logged as few as one click this year in some countries.  Maybe that is just a random mistake?  Who knows?  Well over 36 countries have logged 10 clicks or more.  Maybe it is just one person per country checking in once a month.  That is more than enough for me.  And 8 countries have logged 100 clicks or more in 2016.  Hey maybe it is all just spam robot web crawler clicks, all I can do is keep trying and keep inviting others to spread good news.

Thank you to everyone, everywhere who has found 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo.  I vow to keep at it.  One day, one week, one month and one click at a time.  Reaching the world, one click at a time; 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo has reached 110 countries so far this year alone.  Thank you again and again and again.

You can do it!

You can do it!

You need to hear this; you need to see this written down.  You can do it.

You can do it.  You have a dream, step one is to acknowledge the fact that you have a life-long dream.  It is not about the possessions but about what you want to do with your life if money was no object.  What is your dream?  What would you be doing?  You can do it!

You need to say it out loud.  “I can do this!”  Again, what is your dream?  Get back to the very basics, when you were a kid and life was not about money, power and problems.  What was your dream?  You can do it.  Now, take small steps toward your dream.  It is like riding a bike, you may need to start with training wheels or with someone you trust helping you balance, but you can do it.  Don’t be ashamed of where you are starting, just start!

You can do it!  You need to see it and you need to hear it and you need to be around people who will help you not hinder you or use you.  You can do it!

Today is your day, keep it simple; but get started it!  You can do it!

150 Days a year.

150 Days a year.

Rehabilitation, Rest and Recovery – another installment in my rehab walk series.

It is still early in the year 2106. Just a year ago today I was struggling to walk at a decent pace. I was wearing soft knee braces just to be able to get through the work day. It would take a while for my injured knees to warm up to the task of walking without a limp. So I had to make sure I was getting stronger just to get back to where I was before I was injured.

150 Days a year, 3 times a week.

Just a year ago I would wear ankle weights and do leg exercises. I still remember the day I was riding an exercises bike and I pushed to hard injuring one knee. I also remember the day I was jumping around like crazy and injured my other knee. We live and we learn. If you live an active life, you will have to deal with injuries or nagging pains sooner or later. Sooner or later fitness programs become injury rehab programs.

150 Days a year, 3 times a week.

Any good fitness plan will say to workout at least three times a week, maybe up to five times a week. It will alternate between intense workouts and easy workouts and rest days. You are supposed to Workout, Rest and Recover or in my case Rehabilitation, Rest and Recover. Three times a week I would do my leg exercises with Soft Ankle Weights and then I was able to build up to Walking with Ankle Weights and then up to Power walks. I was pushing myself from three days a week to five days a week or more. Some days I would feel good and workout a little harder or a little longer and the next day I would feel sore; Rehabilitation, Rest and Recovery. Now I am finding as I grow stronger there were times I was over training and not giving myself enough time to “Recover.” Sometimes we get caught up in the Pain part of No Pain, No Gain. I learned the same lesson I have learned time and time again, sometimes you need to let your body recover.

150 Days a year, 3 times a week.

There is a balance between Over-training, Being in the zone and Under-training. Over-training means you are going too hard, too fast, too often and not letting your body recover. This can lead to injury or prolonged injury. Being in the zone means you are at the right intensity with the right amount of rest in between.  Under-training means you are being too easy on yourself. Letting other things get in the way of working out or just plan being lazy. Balance is the key. For me right now, three days a week of rehabilitation by wearing ankle weights throughout the day and taking at least 5000 steps a day and then taking the weekends off is the right amount of workout.

150 Days a year, 3 times a week.

I am getting antsy though. I am getting stronger. I miss my power walks. I want to run. I need to be patient.   My time will come. I need to take the stairs more; I need to get out in the cold and power walk. Not too much, not too little. I need to stay in the zone.

A few years ago I thought it would be a good ideal to start a Motivational Blog.

A few years ago I thought it would be a good ideal to start a Motivational Blog.

So I started blogging and I am still at it. I still think it is a good idea. I also thought it was a good idea to start a “Quote of the Day” Motivational Group. So I did. There have been some ups and some downs, but I still think it is a good idea. So I am still at it.

A few years ago I thought it would be a good idea to become a Motivational Speaker. So I started by blogging and inviting my friends and professional contacts to be a part of my Spread Good News “Quote of the Day” Motivational Group and I took every chance I could get to present on the topics that I have been studying and learning along the way. Am I rich and famous? No, not yet; but I still think it is a good idea. Do I have a book deal? No, not yet; but I still think it is a good idea. Have I helped a few people along the way? I have helped as many people as I could with no strings attached; and that is why I think it is a good idea.

No, I have not authored a book yet. No, I have not been on television or the radio yet. I have been invited / allowed to speak a few times on a podcast and at a couple of local events. Even though I have spoken before many crowds as a Master of Ceremonies and Event Host and even though I have performed onstage as a Musician and as a DJ; learning how to present as a Motivational Speaker or a Topic Expert still makes me a little nervous on the inside. But, I have learned by doing and I have learned by studying and I have learned by asking questions and listening for an answer.

Doors were opened for me because I knocked on them. Every time I walked through a door that was opened, I learned something new. Then I shared what I have learned and started the process all over again. Can I help someone learn what I have learned? Can someone help me learn what they have learned? I am convinced I will write a book one day, just not today. Today I rededicate myself to what I am doing and have done so far: Blogging, Speaking, Volunteering, Learning, Listening, Being Mentored, Being Coached, Mentoring and Coaching Others.

One day, when the time is right, I hope to write a book. Until then I will update my blog. One day, when the time is right, I will be interviewed on Television for what I have accomplished, until then I will continue to work to motivate others and give presentations about what I have learned. One day you may hear me speak on the radio, until then maybe you will catch me on You-Tube or another podcast. If I continue to learn and grow and help others, then the seeds I so today will grow into a harvest, until then I will continue to tend to the soil.

A few years ago I thought it would be a good ideal to start a Motivational Blog. I still think it is a good idea. A few years ago I thought it would be a good ideal to start a “Quote of the Day” group. I still think it is a good idea. A few years ago I thought it would be a good idea to become a Motivational Speaker. I still think it is a good idea. That is why I am still here. I am still at it. I am learning and growing by doing and asking others how I can help. If you have the same dreams I tell you today to get started. Take it one day, one post and one presentation at time. A few years from now you will be glad you did.
