I am the Alpha Optimist, let the games begin.
What makes me think that I can be the Alpha Optimist? Somebody has to do it. You have to want to do it. You have to want to serve as Champion of the Optimists. You have to want to be the Apex Optimist. You see Optimism is a choice, it is a choice I was challenged to make; it is a challenge I have accepted. It is a mountain I am scaling. I am the Alpha Optimist, let the games begin.
Read this with a smile, otherwise you will not be able to see what I am saying. Again I say read this with a smile; find a way to laugh along. Otherwise you will miss it. I can not state this enough for the record, you will not see it, if you do not smile while you read this, so read this with a smile. I am the Alpha Optimist, the Leader of the Optimist Pack. Maybe the Optimist Pack has not recognized my skills yet, but they will soon enough. You see someone has to do it. Someone has to carry the torch, and that someone is me. You too can run with me in the Optimist Pack, You can be a Beacon of Hope. You have to run the race to qualify. Try to be the most positive person you can be. Dream the biggest dreams.
What does it take to be an Optimist? You have to believe you can make the world a better place. You have to believe that good things do not happen by chance, but we help them along. You have to run the race. Start with paying it forward. Be the person who leaves a penny at the corner store. Be the person who gives their spare change in the fundraising cans at the gas station. Be the person who tips better when you go out to eat. Every little bit counts. You see I cam giving you tips because I am the Alpha Optimist. I am not the least bit worried about losing my title. I am self-proclaimed. But I can help you become more of an Optimist.
Remember to smile when you read this or you will miss the point. I am the Apex Optimist. So I am giving you another tip. To make the world a better place, you have to get involved; Volunteer at a Local Church or Charity. Lend a helping hand at an after school program. You can make a difference. See I am challenging you to make a difference, because I challenge myself to make a difference. You can do it. It is not hard, you just have to start.
I am the Big Dream Hunter, and I am leading a Safari. You can come along. Be the one who says “We can do it!” and mean it! Be the one who will challenge Pessimists and Realists to a Verbal Duel. Can you win the argument and leave everyone laughing and thinking twice? Can you sharpen your saw against the most negative and complacent people around? I can, that is what makes me the Champion of the Optimists. I never back down from the chance to prove a pessimist wrong. I never back down from the challenge of making a realist dream. That is what it takes! I am the Alpha Optimist, the Apex Predator of Realists and Pessimist. Yes those camps shudder to think I may be tracking them. Making them rethink their positions.
Don’t be afraid, it won’t hurt. You will learn to love it. Love the fact that you can dream big and make the world a better place. Love the fact that you do not have to give into pity parties and doom and gloom. The sun will rise in the East tomorrow just like it did today. You can roll with my team, you can ride with us. We are the Dreamers of the Big Dream; the Hunters of the Big Prize. We will change the World. The Trumpets will sound. Did you remember to smile while reading this? If you did not smile, you can not see it. Put a smile one your face and start over.
I am the Alpha Optimist, let the games begin.
Can I take a moment of your time, and tell you that I want to be a part of making the world a better place. I can I take a moment of your time to tell you that you can make the world a better place. Can I take a moment of your time and tell you of my Million Dollar Dream and My Billion Dollar Plan?
I have a dream of raising Millions of Dollars for Charity. I am a dream big kind of guy. So why stop there? A Million Dollars is not what it used to be. So I am going to also tell you of my Billion Dollar Plan. You see, deep down inside; I wish I was Santa Claus. I wish I had the resources to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, give toys to deserving kids and also award scholarships and the hope of a college education to as many people as possible. I have a dream and a plan, now either you believe or you don’t; but either way I hope to get there one day.
So my dream is that I can be a part of people coming together to promote for each other. My dream is that I can be a part of people working together to volunteer in their community. My dream is that I can be a part of raising money to help those who have been hit hard by hard times, and we can help get them back on their feet.
I am the guy who puts his spare change in the jars at the corner store to help out all the different causes. I am the guy who has donated my time and talents to help raise money or make a difference. I am the guy who challenges others to get involved also, not just throw money at a problem; see where the money is going. Volunteer, tutor, coach or mentor; I have done these things and I challenge you to do the same. I am not telling you what to do or where to go, I am just telling you to go and do. You will make a difference.
So what is my Million Dollar Idea? I believe we can be a part of getting people to come together and raise Millions of Dollars for Charity. When you add up all the events I have been a part of, DJ’ing or Volunteering it has helped raise Millions for Charity. Now my wife and I are helping Organize Fundraisers, and with the help of the people who have teamed with us we have raised Thousands of dollars so far. More help and more events, and I am sure the number could approach a Million Dollars. Again, I am a Big Dream kind of guy, why stop at a Million?
Why not a Billion Dollar Plan? Yes, my plan is to one day be able to put together a Billion Dollar network. A Billion Dollar Foundation to help clean up parks and provide safe places for kids to play. A Billion Dollar Foundation that provides Tutoring Services to Kids in after school programs. A Billion Dollar Foundation that awards Scholarships so people can continue their education after high school. Yes, My Big Plan is a Billion Dollar Foundation that can be a Business Incubator and help solid ideas with Start-up Funding. Yes, my plan is a Billion Dollar Plan to get people up and helping out with local charities. A Billion Dollar Network, A Billion Dollar Foundation, A Billion Dollar Plan just means I can do more of the same things I have done on a smaller scale. A Billion Dollar Plan means I can help make sure things are done the right way.
Or maybe it is all just a dream. But if I can be a part of building a network of people who will work together, to promote each other, build teams to volunteer for local causes, provide motivation and leadership, and provide tutoring and scholarships for children, to help clean up neighborhoods and provide funding for local charities; what do I have to lose by trying? Maybe we fall short; maybe we only raise Millions of dollars. Maybe we only raise Thousands of dollars. But what do I have to lose by trying. What do I have to lose by Daring to Dream Big! A Million Dollar Dream and a Billion Dollar Plan!
I have had a great year. No am I not rich, and no I am not famous. I am just a guy who is trying to make the world a better place, and learn to make myself a better person along the way. I believe you can make a difference by spending a day volunteering. I believe you can make a difference by tutoring and mentoring others. I believe you can make a difference organizing charity fundraisers.
I try to give back, and my wife and I have done the things I hinted at in the previous paragraph. We organized a can food drive with our Apartment Complex. We collected over 300 cans of food. I took a couple of pictures of a portion of what we collected. We donated to food to a local church and were happy to be a part of the process.
I also have been able to work at local food banks and soup kitchens for a day here and a day there. Twice last year, and twice this year I have the chance to help package and distribute food to hundreds of families for the holidays just be spending a day volunteering. Last year I took some pictures of the Boxes were we loading in to shopping carts. Each cart got One Box called a Pantry Pack as well as a Frozen Turkey and a bunch of Side Dishes. We were able to load up over 300 carts in one day and give them to local families for the Holidays.
My wife and I also spend one afternoon a month helping out a local homeless shelter our church supports. We try to make a difference even if appears on the surface to be a small difference. Maybe we can’t help everyone, but we can still help.
I did not do any of this alone, no each time I was part of a team. I was part of a team of people who decide to set aside some time to help make the world a better place. Many of these organizations need help from volunteers to stay afloat. It is more than just writing a check or giving you spare change; it is rolling up your sleeves and getting you hands dirty for a day. It was trading one day in the gym lifting weights for lifting food into carts to help feed people in need. It was washing dishes at a homeless shelter or pulling pallets of food at a warehouse.
It is a day here and a day there to help get food to literally hundreds of people in need. No, it did not change the world like a big Superstar Benefit Concert, but it made a difference in my local community if only for a couple of days or a couple of weeks at a time. I can say, yeah we tried to help; we tried to make a difference. You can make a difference also; you only have to try.
Seed, Time and Harvest is what it takes to grow a Business. Maybe you want to provide a service, maybe you want to form a charity; the same rules apply that applied to the farmers all the way back in Biblical Times.
Seed Money: Seed money is the money you need to get your business started. If you were a Farmer, and you spent all your money on Land, you would have no money left over for Equipment, Labor and of course the Seed you will use to plant your crops. No Seed, No Harvest is a simple first lesson of Farming. It applies to business today as well. Granted there is no fixed amount of seed money that is needed, but you still have to overcome your start-up costs. Sometimes Seed Money comes from Angel Investors: It’s somewhat funny that in the rat race of business they picked the term Angel Investor.
Time: Good things take time. If you want a Harvest you have to plant seeds in the beginning of “Growing Season: or Spring” to Reap your Harvest in Autumn. Just like with any business. You need Seed Money to get started and it still takes time to get up and running. If you open a store, you start by buying and stocking a building. These things take time; Good Things Take Time!
Ten Percent of a Watermelon or a Whole Grape?
I like watching Shark Tank, it is an American T.V. show spun off from the Canadian T.V. Show Dragon’s Den. On both programs people Pitch their Ideas to Big Name Business Moguls to raise money to expand their business. In exchange they give up a portion of their business. One of the favorite quotes from the sharks is “Would you rather have 10 Percent of a Watermelon or a Whole Grape? Meaning would you rather have a small share of something very big, or have all of something that is small? Again, we know the terms Shark and Dragon as a public perception of an Angel Investor.
You reap what you sow: Lots of people seem to forego this part of the equation. If you plant corn, would you be surprised if anything other than corn grew in your field? If you planted seeds of corn and spinach grew in your field; you would be checking the seed and you would be checking the soil, you would be checking everything. If you planted seeds of corn and watered the crops faithfully all summer, and waited until autumn and got no harvest; would you not be checking with all your friends who are successful farmers about what went wrong? So do you sow seeds of wisdom and happiness; or do you sow seeds of lies and deceit? Do you take advice from people who are more successful than you are? Do you try to help others when others help you? Do you believe what goes around comes around?
The Harvest: The Harvest is here and can be sold for a profit. It’s time to celebrate right? Yes and No. A lot of work has to go into collecting the Harvest. It is OK to celebrate once it is done, but you have to remember that seed must be saved for the next growing cycle. Also part of the harvest needs to be stored up to get through the winter: You also need to set aside for Rainy Days: Lots of people overspend during the harvest season:
Businesses go through cycles just like the farmers. Be careful to set aside enough to get yourself through the next growing season.
Seed, Time and Harvest – Yes it still works
Everyone has heard that famous quote: “It’s my way or the highway!” Can anyone tell me who said it first? I can’t find a definite answer. As far as this post goes, I am using it to illustrate my point, “My Way is the Highway!”
My Way is the “Information Super Highway.” The Internet will either help us come together or it may tear us apart. Either way, I choose it as a tool to help spread the word. My online diary of posts etches out where I stand on searching for the truth, finding your purpose and chasing your dreams. I choose to ride this Highway as My Way!
“My Way is the Highway” is also my stance when ever I am faced with Tyrannical Leadership. Some people can follow the “All Knowing” and “All Powerful” Leaders, Managers, Owners, etc. I can’t. I respond best to those who are open to new ideas, and lead by example. I respond best to those who coach and mentor and continue to evolve and grow as they lead. I respond best to those who are still searching, still learning, so if someone gives me the “My way or the highway” speech, it sends up a lot of warning signs in my mind. The only “All Knowing and Powerful” I know of is up in Heaven! Given the choice, “My Way is the Highway!”
Again, “My Way is the Highway!” What answer helps the most people get to where they are going as safely and quickly as possible? Highways are meant to help people get from where they are to where they are going. I could take the side roads to work every day, it would just take a lot longer to get there. Most of us choose the highway to get to where we need to go, don’t we?
“The Highway is My Way!” I would love to be able to get in my car and drive from town to town, making friends, raising money for charities, getting block clubs together to clean up parks and fix up neighborhoods. I would love to be able to start a great big convoy that brings positive change everywhere we go, and empowering people to sustain the new levels the change brings. I know the Highway can be seen as a dangerous place, or it can be seen as a tool and how it is used is up to each person.
“So My Way is the Highway!” I am coming to you thanks to the Information Super Highway, the Internet. I am making my stand that I want to continue to learn and grow and my input matters. I think your input matters too, I think that like-minded people are better off together; and that if we can link up enough people who want to make a difference, one day we can make a difference. One day we can ride on both the “Brick and Mortar” and the “Click without Borders” Highways at the same time. Going from town to town training up the leaders of the future, and fixing some of the mistakes of the past. I think we can do it together.
My Way Is The Highway!
I am not the same person I was when I was a kid, or 10 years ago, or 10 months ago. Sometimes I wonder if I am the same person I was 10 days ago, I know I am constantly changing. Hopefully, I am growing, learning and getting better at what I do. Hopefully I am an agent of positive change; hopefully I am helping make the world a better place. But I can’t help to stop and reflect and try to connect the dots from my past to my present and give direction to my future. I see myself still dreaming of the things I dreamed about when I was a kid, only in a different context. The more I change, it seems the more I stay the same.
I dreamed of being a Rock Star when I was a kid; travelling from city to city making music. I had no real concept of working for a living. Now that I have to work for a living, I spend my days dreaming of travelling from city to city making music. And now that I have a concept of money and leadership, and teambuilding and teamwork; I dream of raising millions of dollars for charity and helping clean up and rebuild neighborhoods everywhere I go. The more I change, it seems the more I stay the same.
I spent many hours as a kid playing makeshift drum sets out of boxes from my toys and games. My parents bought me a toy drum kit when I got a little older and a played it into the ground. I dreamed of being in a band and touring the world. Now I spent many hours trying to build makeshift teams of people who will work together, co-promote each other, expand each others businesses and try to help others along the way by volunteering and doing fund raisers. The dreams change a little, they shift around, but basically they stay the same.
As I grew older, my parent told I could not play the drums or join marching band. I played the French Horn in orchestra, but my real dream was to be in a Rock Band. I saved my money and bought a Bass Guitar, because everyone was a “Wanna Be Guitar Player” and Drums we out of the question. Everyone told me to go to college, and give up on my dreams. I played that Bass until my figures had blisters and then I played some more. I developed thick skin. Now people tell me to go to work and stop wasting my time, but I have thick skin. I still want to be a Rock Star, maybe a Rock Star Engineer.
So what is wrong with wanting to organize charity fundraisers and blow them up into charity festivals, and travel the world leaving a positive impact on communities and maybe making some music along the way? I think I am a visionary, and I am working on the Leader part of the deal. It seems I stay the same throughout all the changes.
Bass Guitar, I was no a Bass Player but I had not amp. But I played that Bass like there was no tomorrow, and I borrowed amps until I could afford to by one. Then I was a Bass Player with an Amp and no car, so I bummed rides to practice and I booked as many shows for any band I was in as I could. And when I could I would jam some guitar, or drums or keyboards; I would play anything that made noise, and try to turn it into music, though some would still call it noise. I was making a lot of noise. So here I am years later, still making noise, trying to make music, trying to sing a song and get other to sing along. The more I change, it seems the more I stay the same.
So when people ask me what I want to do with my life, it is easy. I want to be a Rock Star, not the tragic Rock Star figure with the sad ending, or the burned out past his prime holding on to fame Rock Star, no I want to be the Rock Star who helps others become Rock Stars. I want to be the Leader who helps others become Leaders. I want to be the Dreamer who helps others chase their Dreams. I want to be a Team-builder who helps build teams of people who will co-promote each other, and raise money for charity, and make work seem like play, and have fun along the way, all the while living a lasting positive impact on every place we stop.
I want to be a Rock Star; it seems the more I stay the same the more things change.
