David vs Goliath
We all have heard the story haven’t we? David and Goliath! The famous story of how a shepherd boy took on a giant and won. The story of the underdog winning against all odds. This story has inspired countless people to face their fears.
Now I do not want to take one ounce away from this story, I would love to see people face their fears; this post is for me as much as for anyone. However, before David defeated Goliath, David had the courage to face a Lion and a Bear on separate occasions. Before David was brave in battle, David was brave while tending sheep. Now many of us want to be known as mighty conquerors; but will we put that same faith and bravery in the small jobs? Before David could protect his fellow citizens, David was protecting his Fathers flock.
Will you be brave in the little things that will prepare you for the big things? How many of us would go out of way to save one sheep from a Lion or a Bear? How many of us will put our trust in God to train us up for the big job (facing Goliath) while doing the little job that no one wants (tending to sheep?) How many of us will even acknowledge that we believe in God and need God to show us the way?
Yeah, we all want to be known as giant killers, but will we listen to the inner voice that tries to guide us day in and out to get ready for battle? David said no to the armor and advice of the “Brave” warriors who would not face Goliath. David relied on the skill and knowledge that God gave him while tending sheep. Will you be loyal in the small things so you can be ready to face the big things when the times comes?
Will you be ready to face your Goliath? Do not rush it. Spend your time being brave while tending to the sheep!
Have you ever flown on an airplane? Do you know anyone who has flown on an airplane? I know people who are afraid to fly. In a day an age where thousands of airplanes take of and land around the world everyday, there are people who are afraid to fly. It is almost like saying you are afraid of being successful.
Strong words aren’t they? People who are afraid to fly are afraid to be successful. Imagine for a moment that you start a successful business or you are a in demand public figure. Will you be able to manage a successful career without getting on an airplane and flying? Will you be able to travel the world for business or to take a vacation without flying? Yes you could, it will just take longer. The more successful you become the more you will realize that your time is your most valuable asset. Minimizing the time to get from point A to point B will give you more time to get things done, or relax and enjoy your time off. Being afraid to fly is like saying you are afraid of being successful.
I know people who are afraid of flying, and to me it sounds like they are afraid of being successful. I am not a big shot yet. I am not powerful, rich or famous by the world’s standards yet. I am powerful on the inside. I am a little shot who is still shooting, and I am not afraid to fly. Early in my career as an engineer I would fly on a regular basis. For the last couple of years I have been flying on a regular basis yet again.
I am amazed by major airports where over 100 planes an hour take off and land. There is nothing like looking out the window of an airplane while it takes off or lands. There is nothing like looking out the window of an airplane that is about to take off and seeing planes lined up waiting for their turn on a runway. There is nothing like looking out the window of a plane that is about to land and seeing other planes circling the airport waiting for their turn to land. There is nothing like driving to an airport during the busiest hours and watching planes taking off and landing every minute.
Every major city, every major airport has hundreds of planes taking off and landing everyday and yet there are people who are afraid to fly. I am sure you know someone who is afraid to fly. I hope you know someone who is considered successful and living an honest life that can be an example for others. Now who many people do you know who are successful and afraid to fly? I am not talking about being cautious about flying. I am not talking about being reckless about flying. I am not taking about being a daredevil. I am talking about people who are considered successful and yet are still afraid to fly. Even if they are afraid to fly, if they are successful they will overcome their fear and fly when it is necessary.
The world is always turning. The global economy never sleeps. Factories are running almost 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in some cases. Travel for business or for leisure is one of the largest industries in the world. How do become successful if you are afraid to fly? Let me say again, I am not talking about being reckless; no I am talking about facing your fears. So many times before I have heard, read and watched in movies that a major key to becoming successful is facing and overcoming your fears. Yet, I hear people say over and over again that they are afraid to fly.
I am not afraid to fly. I am not afraid to face my fears. I am not afraid of becoming successful. I hope and pray you are not afraid of becoming successful. I hope and pray you are not afraid to face and overcome your fears. I hope and pray you are not afraid to fly.

Welcome to 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo. I try to observe and learn from my life experiences, from the books I have read, the movies I have watched and the things I have heard others say. So today, I add a new acronym to the list. How to F.A.C.E. adversity: Faith, Action, Commitment and Endurance. F.A.C.E. adversity:
Adversity: an unfortunate event or incident
If you try to do anything substantial in life you will face adversity. Even if you do not do anything you can still face adversity. The difference is those who try to do something substantial will have to face adversity and rise above it, those who choose to do nothing will do nothing. They will just take what ever life gives them. I challenge you to rise above adversity; F.A.C.E. adversity with Faith, Action, Commitment and Endurance.
Faith: Confident belief in the truth, value, or trustworthiness of a person, idea, or thing.
Action: The state or process of acting or doing
Commitment: The state of being bound emotionally or intellectually to a course of action
Endurance: The act, quality, or power of withstanding hardship or stress
Do I need to say anything else? Sometimes these things are just that plain and simple. I will continue if that is what you need. If you are convinced, than be convinced; if you are convinced that I am crazy, I would love to hear why. I will continue to explain my position.
Adversity: A state of hardship or affliction; misfortune. See how misfortune is part of the definition of adversity. Bad luck is part of life. Now if you just want to complain about your luck or the hand that life has dealt you, than I can not help you. But if you want to try to make a difference in your own life and the life of others around you; keep listening. The first step to F.A.C.E. adversity is Faith. You must have a confident belief in something that will change your circumstances. Notice, truth and value and trustworthiness are parts of the definition of faith. Don’t fall for lies and scams. Do your homework, check the facts; but please, for God’s sake have faith in something bigger than yourself.
F.A.C.E. adversity: Add Action to your Faith. Action – The state or process of acting or doing. Do something! Can I make it any simpler? If your answer to adversity is to sit around and complain; then I can not help you, yet again. You must act on your faith, or how much faith do you really have?
F.A.C.E. adversity: Commitment – The state of being bound emotionally or intellectually to a course of action. If you have and you are acting on your faith, you have to be bound to this course of action. Again, have you done your homework? Do you know the truth? Do you value what you are doing? Do others value what you are doing? Life is going to throw hardship and affliction at you, because that is just the way of the world. Are you ready to deal with the fact that no matter what you do, no matter how many good things you do, no matter how many good times you create; there will be bad times, bad luck and hard times? Are you bound emotionally and intellectually to your course of action? Have you thought this through, and are you tough enough to deal with the roadblocks that people will put in your way? Commit to your faith and commit to your actions: F.A.C.E. adversity!
Endurance: The act, quality, or power of withstanding hardship or stress. This one should be a give me. This one should be very easy to understand if you have been paying attention. F.A.C.E. adversity equals withstanding hardship or stress. If you have faith, you have put your faith into action and you have committed to that action on an emotional and intellectual level, then you should be able to endure what ever life throws at you. Endurance is power, endurance is a quality, know this and you will be able to F.A.C.E. adversity!
F.A.C.E. adversity: Have confident belief in the truth and value the state or process of acting or doing. Become bound emotionally or intellectually to a course of action and have the power to withstand hardship or stress! F.A.C.E. adversity with Faith, Action, Commitment and Endurance:
