Are you waiting for everyone to love your ideas?

Are you waiting for everyone to love your ideas?

Welcome to 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo.  Do you have an idea or a dream that you really want to chase, but you are waiting for something, anything?  Are you waiting for a sign or the approval of others?  Are you waiting for everyone to love your ideas?

Don’t wait, get to work.

Think about this for a minute.  The President of the United States is one of the most loved and most hated people on the planet.  Trump, Obama, Bush, Clinton; they have all been President.  Do you love them all?  Do you hate them all?  Do you love half and hate the other half?  Which side of the fence you are on makes no difference, each of these 4 men has reached the highest elected office in the United States and plenty of people did not like them.

So what are you waiting for?  Are you waiting for everyone to love your ideas?  No matter what you try to do, not everyone will love your idea.  Some people may hate it, some may love it – but that does not mean they will help you.  Others may love your idea so much they will try to steal it from you.  Some people will be jealous of you and some may be your friend.  Then there are those who will get close to you so they can stab you in the back.

Don’t wait, get to work.

Think about this for a moment.  Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake.  Some of the most popular American singers of all time.  Do you love them all, do you love all their songs?  Everyone has different tastes.  Your taste may not appeal to everyone.  Are you waiting for everyone to love your ideas?  If you sell 30 Million copies of a song in the US, that means over 300 Million people did not buy your music.  So think about it, you can be one of the most popular singers in the world with a less than 10% buy-in from the general public.  Do not let the 90% who may not like you stop you from reaching the 10% who do.

Don’t wait, get to work.

The only thing I hope and pray you will consider is to not do harm to others to get where you want to go.  Don’t sell fear or hate to reach your dreams.  Walk in hope and love for others.  Are you waiting for everyone to love your ideas?

Don’t wait, get to work.

Make Magic Happen Today!

Good things take time.

Good things take time.

You can’t rush quality. You can’t rush craftsmanship. You can’t rush art. Good things come through a series of inspiration, experimentation, training and time. Some people work hard, some people work smart. Talented people make work seem like fun. This is all part of the process. The process of figuring out what is worth doing and what is a waste of time. Anyway, good things take time. Welcome to 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo, let me explain.

Year after year it seems Professional Athletes make more and more money to do things that started out as games that people played to have fun, pass the time and maybe get a little exercise. Kids play the games for fun. Parents teach the games to their children. Again, people play to have fun and maybe get a little exercise. Great players seem to make the game look easy. Just because they make it look easy does not mean they did not practice long hours to become great at it. The fact they make it look easy almost guarantees they practiced long hours to become great. The great players probably had fun while they were practicing, but they still put their time in to get great. Good things take time.

Nobody looks at Fine Wine and says, wow let me pay money for sour grape juice. No, people look at fine wine and say it was careful aged to perfection. I am sure if you go to any vineyard, the wine makers will tell you how much care was taken in growing the grapes, picking only the best grapes, and carefully extracting the grape juice and the type of woods that were used to store the grape juice until it became the finely crafted wine you are about to taste and pay your hard earned money to enjoy. The best wine is not thrown together overnight in a random manner. No, if you want the best you have to wait for the perfect time for each step in the process. Good things take time.

I have spent many hours of my life making music and entertaining others. It did not matter to me what instrument I was playing or what style of music that I was a part of performing; it did not matter if I was performing solo or as part of a group. All the mattered is that the music sounded good to me, and hopefully good to whomever was listening. Lots of hours were spent practicing the drums, or the bass or the guitar. Lots of time was spent behind a keyboard of a synthesizer or a computer to make the music sound just right. Even if I liked it, sometimes other people did not like it. Sometimes I did not like it and other people did. Either way, it just did not happen. It took time. Time spent practicing, time experimenting and time chasing inspiration that is not always caught. Not every song or performance worked out. But when they did, in that moment, it felt like magic.   Good things take time.

Take the time to get good. People who have never heard of you may think it comes naturally to you. Some if it does. Some of it is a gift. Respect the gift enough to be thankful and practice. Experiment and have fun until you get good. Experiment and have fun until it comes naturally. Experiment and have fun until you make it look easy. Take the time to get good. Good things take time.

Talk is Cheap, Get Busy Doing!

Talk is Cheap, Get Busy Doing!

Welcome back to 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo. I try to stay really positive. So today’s title may sound a little negative: Talk is Cheap, Get Busy Doing! Take it on faith that I am trying to encourage you to stop listening to what people are saying and stay focused on what you are doing, and try to stand and watch what people do after all the talk is over.

So, as you may know I have been playing the Drums and Bass Guitar in a Praise Band. This has been going on for over a year now. I have been on the road for work some weekends and had to miss. When I am home on weekends I usually end up playing the Drums because we have not been able to find a Drummer who will show up consistently. Now mind you, in over a year’s time I have talked to many Musicians, I have also heard about Musicians that other people know. There are four of us that show up on a semi-consistent basis; and there are at least ten more who say they want to play but never show up. I have talked to at least Ten People and heard about even more people who say they want to be a part of what we are doing and then never show up. The four people who show up have made the commitment to Do instead of Talk about doing.

So there is a certain amount of success that is basically showing up prepared to do what ever it takes to get your turn. It is ok to talk things through to find out what needs to get done, but the payoff is getting things done. The payoff is putting your hands to work. The payoff is showing up ready to do whatever is needed. Why do I say this; again I play the Drums most of the time. I rarely get to pay the Bass Guitar, because Drums are need more in most cases. I only get to play the Bass when another Drummer Shows up. Now, I have been able to play the Bass a few times, with Three Different Drummers. The better the Drummer, the better the Results. Once I played the Bass with no Drummer and that is when I told the rest of the Band it did not make sense to not have a Drummer. The Drummer sets the very foundation for the music 9 time out of 10. So I do what is needed most instead of what I want to do most. I don’t talk about what needs to get done; I do what needs to get done. Talk is Cheap, Get Busy Doing!

Now, keep in mind the fact that I have probably talked to and heard about at least Five Drummers, and only played with three, and most of the times none of the Drummers show up, so I fill in for them. If I were a Drummer and the only thing I had to do was show up, I would be there every week. The drummers are already there and set up, all you have to do is walk up and play. So nine weeks out of ten I do not get to play the Bass Guitar that I 100% want to play, I get to play the Drums that I only 90% want to play. Every now and then a Drummer will so up, so I have to be ready to switch to the Bass Guitar. I don’t make a bunch of excuses, I carry extra batteries and cables and I do whatever I can to help and encourage the guitar players and the keyboard player.   We have to rearrange songs based on how many people show up, but that only makes us better at what we do. So if you do you get better, and if you talk without doing nothing happens. Talk is Cheap, Get Busy Doing!

So basically to be successful, talk about what needs to get done and then do it. It is as simple as Talk about it, show up and do it! Talk is Cheap, Get Busy Doing!

Be the Real Deal

This is 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo.  I am here to challenge you.  I am here to ask you to stand up for what you believe.  I am not telling you what to believe.  Today I am challenging you to be the Real Deal.

Be the Real Deal.  If you really believe in something stand up for it.  If you are going to stand up for something, get your facts straight and be an inspiration to others.  State the facts; tell the truth and make a stand for what you believe!  That is what it takes to be the Real Deal!  Have I messed up in the past?  Yes, that is how I know what being the Real Deal is all about!

The first step in being the Real Deal is stating the facts.  So to do this you must get your facts straight.  To be the Real Deal you cannot send people off chasing rumors!  You need to know the difference between people who are telling lies, people who are just guessing and people who are speaking with real information or based on solid experience.  We live in a day and time when it is easy to get both sides of the story with just a simple search of the internet.  If you are dealing with two people who do not get along, listen to both sides of the story.  Then put them both in the same room and see who stands by their story.  Then ask around a little bit before you make up your mind.  Just because someone is popular does not make them right or wrong.  Same goes for the unpopular person.  Usually the truth cuts both ways not just one side or the other.  If you are the Real Deal, you would not want to fall for a scam or lead others into a bad situation.  Do what you can to find out the facts before you make up your mind.  Usually people will have data or information to verify their story not just rumors and accusations.

Be the Real Deal, tell the truth!  Step two in being the Real Deal is telling the truth!  Once you know the facts, you should make up your mind and stand for the truth.  Stand up for what is right.  This is not just saying it, I mean standing up for what you believe in; even if means you have to admit you were wrong or you screwed up.  If you messed up, fix it.  If you believe in something stand up for it.  Standing up for the truth is not only the right thing to do.  Standing up for the truth can be its own reward.  A lot of time, when the dust settles; the ones who stand up for the truth win in the end.  Don’t fall for the quick fix, the fast money or the fool’s gold.  Check your facts and stand up for the truth.

Stand up for what you believe.  Being the Real Deal means your story does not change based on who is in the room or what direction the wind is blowing.  I know a lot of people, and I mean a lot of people who will say one thing and then do another when you are not looking.  They may think they are slick, but they are not the Real Deal.  It is hard to make a line in the sand without getting your hands dirty at least once.  Standing up for what you believe may mean you may lose a few friends.  That is the price of being the Real Deal.  It means your story does not change based on what you think is popular with the people who are in front of you at the time.  Being the Real Deal means you keep your facts straight, you stand on the truth and your story does not change.  Being the Real Deal means you may have to make a stand with your back against the wall.  Might does not make right, the Real Deal believes the Truth is what makes you right!

Be the Real Deal!  Get your facts straight.  Be the Real Deal, tell the truth!  Be the Real Deal and stand up for what you believe!

G.I.V.E. – Get Involved, Volunteer to Empower.

G.I.V.E. – Get Involved, Volunteer to Empower.

Get Involved!  Welcome to 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo.  I am asking you to act.  I am asking you to Get Involved!  I am asking you to do more than think about it, be worried about it or assume someone else will do what you think should be done.  I am asking you to take some time, give it some effort and get involved.

There are hundreds of ways that you can help out.  I am not trying to tell you what to believe, I am asking you to get involved in any cause you truly think you should support.  My only hope is that your intent is not to hurt or suppress others.  You will be amazed by what you will learn if you get involved.  If you get around like-minded people who support the same causes you can share knowledge and refine your skills.  You will be able to network with people and hopefully learn from them.  You will also appreciate your skills more.  There is a lot of growth and satisfaction that can come from helping others.

G.I.V.E. – Get Involved, Volunteer to Empower.

Volunteer, it is simple.  There are plenty of great causes that need your help.  More than they need your money, they need Volunteers to help do the work.  You see, while there are many noble causes, not all people are noble.  Not all people can be trusted, and not everyone has your talents.  You may be the difference between one more person getting the help they need, or not getting any help at all.  This is worth more than money.  This can very well be about showing someone you care for them and their well-being.  Listen, sometimes is it better to find out where your money is going before you give your money to a cause.  If people what your money but not your help, maybe just maybe you should not give them either.  Find out the Truth of where the money is going first hand, Get Involved, Volunteer!

G.I.V.E. – Get Involved, Volunteer to Empower.

Empower.  The best way to help someone is to show them how they can help themselves.  After you get involved, after you have volunteered and you know that a cause is a worthy cause; help others get involved and learn what you have learned.  Bring more volunteers with you.  Leading more people to serve others is a form of Servant Leadership.  You can help change your community and build a network just by helping others get involved.  Simple things like Tutoring Services or Voter Registration Drives or After School Programs for the Children of your Neighborhood can make a big difference.  If you have gotten involved and volunteered than you can help others get involved and become a Leader in your own right.  You can help empower others to help change their neighborhood.  I have heard it said that “All boats rise with the tide.”  If that is true we all are helped by helping others learn to help themselves.  How can argue with that line of thinking?

G.I.V.E. – Get Involved, Volunteer to Empower.

T4 – The Four Tees to get to the top!

Time, Talent, Tenacity and Teamwork:  These are the Four Tees it takes to get to the top.  Now before your read any further, I am not saying it is easy.  I am saying it is that easy, but not easy.  Time, Talent, Tenacity and Teamwork will get you to the top, if you can get all four things working together.

T1 – Time

Good things take time.  Have you ever watched a Rocket Ship being launched?  In person or on Television a Rocket Launch is a sight to behold.  Now, have you ever watched a Rocket being built?  Now they don’t just slap it together over night.  It takes time, it takes patience, it takes skill; but most of all it takes time.  It takes time to do it right.  So what makes you think your dream will come true the next day?  You have to hold onto your dreams over time and get yourself ready for them to come true.  The same way the Astronauts and Mission Control have to prepare for that Rocket Launch.  It starts with time.  Good things take time.

Time, Talent, Tenacity and Teamwork:

T2 – Talent

Every good movie, every good TV show, every good song on the radio; behind all of them is plenty of talent.  Even if you think the movies, TV show and song on the radio are all bad; someone thought there was some talent somewhere.   Writers, Directors, Producers, Managers and Performers all have to align their talents to make Movies, TV Shows and Hit Songs.  Scientists, Engineers, Technicians, Managers, Assistants and Associates all have to line up their talents to make the Rocket Launch a Success.  To get to the top of any field takes talent.  There has to be some talent somewhere.  No matter how much you think you hate your job, remember; somewhere someone has got some talent.  Get around the talented people and let it rub off on you.  Surround yourself with Talent and you are on your way to the top!

Time, Talent, Tenacity and Teamwork:

T3 – Tenacity.

I love the sound of that word.  Tenacity, persistence, stubbornness; you must be a little stubborn, even if it is in a nice way to get to the top.  Ever wonder how Bad Movies, Bad Television Shows and Bad Songs get made?  Some where, someone was very Tenacious and would not take “No” for an answer.  Now if you surround yourself will talent, you still have to be Tenacious, you still have to fight the good fight to get your project or business off the ground.  Sometimes people do their best work against all odds.  Watch the Movie Apollo 13.  Tenacity, enough said!

Time, Talent, Tenacity and Teamwork:

T4 – Teamwork.

Yes sooner or later it was going to come to this; Teamwork.  The sooner you realize you can’t do it all yourself, the sooner you will be successful.  All the Time, Talent and Tenacity in the world and a One Man Band will never match The Beatles.  There is nothing wrong with being a Superstar, but it is very important to be on the right team.  Some Superstars never win anything, and would practically trade their whole career for a championship; sadly many of them wait until it is too late.  If you take your time, and surround yourself with talent and are tenacious; you still need a strong team to work with you.  Teamwork makes it happen.  Forget about the One Man Army myth; learn to work as a team!  People on your team will see things you might miss, they will bring new ideas, the will bring more energy and knowledge and talent; if they agree to work together.  Sooner or later, teamwork seems to win out.  Make it sooner.  Work as a team right out of the box.  Create a team environment, and protect that environment.

Time, Talent, Tenacity and Teamwork:  These are the Four Tees it takes to get to the top.

Just get up and do it.

OK, here is a challenge.  In the next 60 Seconds I hope I can motivate you to accept.  Just get up and do it.  Are you thinking about going for a walk?  Just get up and do it.

Just get up and do it.  Are you thinking about starting your own business?  Just get up and do it.  Now notice I did not say quit your job if you have a job.  I did say just get up and do it.  Plan your time and work your new business in your spare or extra hours.  Work your new business on the side until you can make it your full-time gig.

Are you thinking about going back to school?  Just get up and do it.  Take a look at your time and your finances and make it work.  Figure out a way to make it work, take one class at a time if that is the only way that works for you.  See if you qualify for a grant or a scholarship or a work-study program.  Find out what courses are being taught and read the books in your spare time.  This is the information age.  Almost everything you need is either on the internet or down at the bookstore or library.

Are you thinking about exercising more?  Just get up and do it.  Go for a walk, ride your bike, go to the gym.  Grab an MP3 player or a portable radio and just get moving.  Yes, you can invite someone along to go with you, but don’t wait for them.  Trust me, if they want to get something done, they won’t wait for you.

Just get up and do it.  You do not need a special brand of clothes or shoes; everything does not have to be perfect to get started.  Trust me, everything will never be perfect, so get started anyway.  Go out dancing or go fly a kite.  Go bake a cake, go jump in a lake.  Have some fun while you are alive, and maybe put a smile on your face.  My 60 Seconds are almost up.

Just get up and do it.
