The habit of doing.

The habit of doing.

Every week I tell myself I need to update my blog. Every week.  Now mind the fact that I have been posting quotes in motivational groups on LinkedIn and Facebook almost every day.  Also, consider the fact that I have been busier than ever at this point and time in my life.

No complaints. I see a world full of possibility.  I am just stating a fact that tell yourself to do something is not doing.  It does not matter if it is something you need to do or something you want to do.  Something for your job, your hobby, your family, your friends or for yourself.  Do not create a habit of just thinking about it, or telling yourself, you need to do it.  Create a habit of doing.  Create a habit of doing something positive, do something for others and do something for yourself.  Do something that puts you one-step ahead at work or one better at your hobby.  Create a habit of doing.

The world will not change if we only think about change. We have to create the change.  Be the change you want to see in the world.  Create a habit of doing!

Persistence pays off!

Reaching the world, one click at a time:

Reaching the world, one click at a time:

60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo has reached 110 countries so far this year alone.

Do you have something worth saying?  Do you?  Do you feel like it is impossible to make a difference?  Now I have one final question.  Have you tried?

Changing the word is not easy, but it is simple.  First and foremost you must have something to say.  Then you must have something worth doing.  Even with those things, the world will not change.  You then have to spread the word and do the work.  Even then the world may not change, but at least you have tried.

I started blogging a few years ago.  I blogged and I kept it quite.  I waited for people to find me.  Guess what, nothing happened.  Then I started inviting and challenging others to do one simple thing, spread good news. Slowly but surely I started connecting and linking with people who felt the same way.  Did we agree on everything?  No; but we agreed on one simple thing, to spread good news.  Did everyone stay?  No; some people came and went and did their own thing.  Did that stop me?  No; I vowed that if I could just reach one person it would be worth it.  I am reaching people one click at a time.  On LinkedIn and on Facebook and thanks to search engines and linking to the News Herald Blog Section in my town; I am reaching people one click at a time.

So has the world changed?  I am not sure if I have helped or not; I may not be able to change the world, but maybe I can get through to one or two people here and there and set an example that no matter what I am going through, I can find one good thing to say every day.  At least once a week or so I can take an hour and write in my blog and post it for people to find.  Find something good about every day and share it.  Invite others to do the same.  Maybe the world can change on click at a time.

So here we are in 2016 and 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo is reaching 110 Countries around the world.  One mouse-click at a time; Yes believe it or not, I have logged as few as one click this year in some countries.  Maybe that is just a random mistake?  Who knows?  Well over 36 countries have logged 10 clicks or more.  Maybe it is just one person per country checking in once a month.  That is more than enough for me.  And 8 countries have logged 100 clicks or more in 2016.  Hey maybe it is all just spam robot web crawler clicks, all I can do is keep trying and keep inviting others to spread good news.

Thank you to everyone, everywhere who has found 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo.  I vow to keep at it.  One day, one week, one month and one click at a time.  Reaching the world, one click at a time; 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo has reached 110 countries so far this year alone.  Thank you again and again and again.

Mojo Rising:

Mojo Rising:

I started this blog, 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo in 2011: I published twenty posts and waited for people to find me. In 2012 I went from less than 100 views the year before to over 5000 views. I was happy that 10 or 15 people a day were checking in on what I had to say. I tried to post something every couple of days, 3 times a week on average, 185 posts for the year. Did I really have that much to say or was I just saying the same things over and over.

4 Years of Growth

Here I am in 2016 and my blog has continues to grow.  No it has not gone viral and I am not a web sensation or a big time author or speaker. I am just some guy who holds down a corner of social media and even though I have thousands of connections on LinkedIn and Facebook, most people find me via Google.

Now I post once or twice a week and I get more views in a year than when I was posting three times a week. Do I still post the same things over and over? Pretty much, I tell people to think, speak, act and learn from doing. I tell people to give back and make a difference in their community. I believe we can make the word a better place, but it has to be on purpose. It will not happen if we don’t get involved. So get involved. Don’t wait for someone else. Yes invite others, but if they don’t show up; go anyway.

Find a church or a charity and get involved. Spread good news over gossip and try to encourage others. So guess who is the hardest for me to get through to with my message???  The people closest to me. I don’t have a magic wand, I just have big dreams, big ideas and these things take time. So should I just give up?  Yeah that is what all the leadership books say.  All the Leadership Books say if your Family and Friends cannot see your dream you should give up right?

No, they say Dream Big. Learn by doing. Learn by studying and correcting your course of action. That the Overnight Success takes Ten Years; that you should help others be successful and all boats will rise with the tide. That you should listen to your inner voice and follow your bliss and the universe will pour out to you with the same measure that you give to others.  I believe in Seed Time and Harvest so I continue to Plant and Water. I cannot control the harvest. God gives the increase. Not on my time but His Time. So in time, I am thankful for everyone who takes the time to read this blog, but get involved and share your story.

Four years of blogging?

Four years of blogging?

Four years of spreading good news and trying to give quality advice, the kind of advice that I will follow. Four years of trying to build, from the ground up a motivational network of people who will encourage each other. Four years.

And what has it got me? A book deal: No, not yet. Any television n time: No, not yet. A movie deal with options on a sequel: No, not yet. So why do we do this again. Why do I do this again, blog in hopes of finding an audience?

I do this because I believe in seed time and harvest. My harvest may not have come in yet, but I plant seeds of good news and I water by trying and trying again, and encouraging others to try. I get peace of mind in knowing that I am trying to make things better by spreading good news instead of gossip. And I get to learn because I learn by doing, studying and mentoring others who are just getting started. I get to learn by talking to other people who are also blogging or speaking or networking and trying to help others. I learn because it is not enough for me to just blog, I want to make a difference by volunteering hands on so I go and help out when I can.   I want to make a difference so I invite others to join me when I can.

I could tell you that it is raining outside and my car won’t start; but I choose to tell you that no matter what you are going through to hold on, the sun will rise tomorrow.   I choose good news over bad. I choose the lesson over the pity party. I choose to want to make a difference instead of placing blame. I choose to keep blogging.

Four years of blogging and each year I reach more people. If only one person a day finds something I blog worthwhile, then maybe I can reach 365 people a year. If in 4 years 1000 people have found something worthwhile to hold onto from my quest to spread good news, then it is worth it.

No book deal, yet. No television interviews, yet. No movie options, yet. But in 2016 I hope to get out and speak more, I hope I can help produce some motivational and professional networking workshops. I also hope to help find 100 jobs for 100 people. I also hope I can volunteer once a month and invite others to join me. Four years of blogging and it has been worth it.

Thank you for tuning in. See you on the other side.

Ranking the Seven Star Wars Movies:

Ranking the Seven Star Wars Movies:

Ok today I just want to have some fun. I have seen the 7th Star Wars movie thanks to my Step Son buying us tickets. So as a fan I had my own little ranking of the Seven Stars Wars Movie. Now because I tell people to do their homework, I did a little digging also.

Rotten Tomatoes Ranks them in this order.

1: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

2: Star War: New Hope

3: The Empire Strikes Back

4: Return of the Jedi

5: Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

6: Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones

7: Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace

Metacritic Ranks them this way:

1: Star Wars: New Hope

2: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

3: The Empire Strikes Back

4: Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

5: Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones

6: Return of the Jedi:

7: Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace

Here at 60 Seconds Of Motivational Mojo, I offer this ranking from worst to first and my reasons why.

7: Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace

After So much build up for the return of Star Wars, The Phantom Menace felt like a letdown.

6: Attack of the Clones.

Did you spot the Millennium Falcon? You had to love the scene of the Star Destroyers Lifting Off

5: Revenge of the Sith.

Luke vs Obi-Wan, Yoda vs Darth Sidious; but you have to wonder how the Sith planned all that right under the nose of the Jedi.

4: Return of the Jedi.

The 1st Appearance of the Emperor’s Force Lighting and Luke with his eyes turning Red, I rank Return of the Jedi as the Litmus Test

3: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

If you had never seen or lived Star Wars then I can see why you would rank this Number One; This movie is a great mashup of all things Star Wars and a hint at things to come.

2: Star Wars New Hope

New Hope

Listen Movie Fans. It goes like this. There was life before Star Wars and Life after Star Wars. This one started it all.

1: The Empire Strikes Back

You can’t deny: “I am your father!” is one of the most quoted lines of all time!

May the force be with you!

A brighter tomorrow:

A brighter tomorrow:

Do you believe you can help make a better tomorrow? Do you believe that is will be easy? I don’t. I think that things worth doing will not always be easy, but they will be worthwhile. This blog has not been easy, but it has taught me how much work there is to be done.

Try being positive a positive person when things are in chaos. Every day brings good news and bad. Try being the person who encourages without any financial gain. Lots of people are promising to change your life if you will invest in their system. Lots of systems will tell you to invest in yourself by buying their products. I am asking you to challenge your thinking and your actions without spending any money.

This blog is a labor of love. I need the time, the inspiration and the energy to continue to update this blog. I have made many mistakes in my life. I am trying to learn from them and help others avoid the mistakes I have made while trying to stay as positive as possible. What has ever been gained by being negative? What has ever been gained by everyone working against each other and keeping to themselves? What has ever been gained by giving up? So I tell people to find the positive and work together and not give up. So I have to fight for the time to not give up.

I have made a promise to my wife and my mother that I would keep trying to find the answer. I believe in a simple answer that we have all heard before but we have been conditioned not to believe. We need to work together to make things better. If we want the world to be a better place, we cannot be selfish. If we want to make things better we have to put the needs of others before ourselves. So I blog and I volunteer and I try to stay positive and I ask others to do the same. Find the time and then energy to seize the opportunities when they arise.

I am far from perfect. I have a lot more to learn. But I have learned enough to know we must continue to try. So I will keep trying. I will continue to believe that we can make the world a better place. It starts by thinking positive thoughts and speaking positive words and creating positive actions and moments and standing up for what is right. This is why I blog. I have made plenty of mistakes; maybe from here on out, I can make a difference.

The Importance of Hope:

The Importance of Hope:

Have you heard it all before? Do you agree? Without hope all is lost. I am starting to believe this more and more. As I look back over my life, I think the one thing that has kept me going through all the ups and downs is hope. Hope coupled with faith means all things are possible. Action coupled with Hope and Faith increases the odds of the impossible actually happening. So at the end of the day, every day, every lesson seems to be to continue to have hope no matter what is going on around you. Everyday reminds me of the importance of hope.

So sometimes I wonder if I am the worst team builder of all time. Almost everything I have started came to an end. Almost every team I have ever built has folded. And yet here I am, still believing that I can reach my dreams if I can just become a better leader. I still have hope. Each lesson in life has taught me to maintain hope for a better tomorrow. That and maybe I could have done better in my team building if I was a better leader. So I take another chance, present another idea, share another vision and try yet again to build a team to bring the vision closer to reality.

So what have I done well, and what have I done wrong? I think I have always tried to make sure everyone had a voice, that everyone’s opinion mattered. I think maybe I was always rooting for the underdog and the outsider and the loner because I could relate to them. And what could I have done better? Maybe I could have used a more gentle touch, maybe I was a little too brute force and a little too arrogant in my approach. Maybe my biggest mistake is thinking that people will actually stand up for themselves. Sometimes I have believed that when people say they want to do something, it meant they would actually follow through.

So I live and I learn and I still have faith and hope. I have seen many people follow the lie they want to hear over the truth that they do not want to hear. I have seen people time and time again say they want to do something and then do absolutely nothing to follow-up on it. So here I am believing that if you can just find the right group of people who are searching for the truth and will stand up for what they believe in that you can be successful.   I want to be a part of that success. I still have hope that I can be a part of that success.

Does my faith get tested? Absolutely it does. Which seems to get me even more convinced that good things are right around the corner. I ask myself one bottom line question. Why learn to stand up for what is right and do things the right way if there is no pay off? Why don’t we just devolve into a state of anarchy and chaos? I think it is because no matter how bad things may seem, there is good out there that is stronger and holding this entire world we live in together. I believe there is a greater good that keeps us from coming apart at the seams. Maybe that greater good is hope, maybe that greater good is faith in the truth.

So all of my failures have taught me to get up and try again. And all of the times I have won, no matter how fleeting they may seem, keep me believing. So if I can believe, you can also. All it takes is hope. I believe there is a truth that is good and pure; it only takes faith. My life has taught me that we all need to have hope in something. We all need something to believe in. I believe in hope against all hope.

It all sounds so good in my head. It all seems so clear in my mind’s eye. I only hope it comes through clearly for you. I have hope for you even if you don’t have hope for yourself.

Top Ten Most Found Motivational Mojo of 2014

Thanks to everyone who has been a part of this journey.

1: Standing up for what you believe in is the right thing to do.

It can be scary sometimes.  Is it the peer pressure or the fear of being rejected?  Maybe it’s the fear of losing your job or losing your friends.  Standing up for what you believe in can be a scary thing, but it is the right thing to do.

2: Why the easy way out is the hardest and worse option.

Imagine for a moment you are confronted with a situation.  You can either take one of two choices, the easy way or the hard way out.  Whenever possible do not pick the easy way out.  Before you choose, stop for a moment and realize there are actually three choices; the easy way, the hard way and the smart way.  See who ever is giving you the choice is saving the best option for them self.  Don’t be fooled.  Look at all the facts and ask a few more questions.  The best way is not always the most apparent choice.

3: The Selfless Leader:

Ask your self these defining questions.  Does your Leader actually care about you, and hold themselves to the same standards or even higher standards that they expect of others.  Does your Leader seek to help others first or help themselves first.  Does your Leader try to set up the best deal for as many people as possible regardless of who gets credit, or are they seeking more credit for themselves?  Let me ask you, who are you following?  Seek to follow or become a Selfless Leader.

4: Why Teamwork sometimes doesn’t work.

We hear it all the time; teamwork is the magic cure to everything that goes wrong in a business.  Well sometimes teamwork does not work.  And of course everyone is ready to place blame.  I can give you 4 reasons why teamwork some times does not work.  Time, Energy, Attitude and Management will make or break a team based on one condition.  If you want to know more, keep reading.  If you just want to place blame, you can stop and find your answers somewhere else.

5: T.R.U.S.T:

Con Men try to gain your trust through a series of lies.  Trust needs to be earned through Truth, Responsibility, Unity, Service and Transparency.  Take your time and check your facts before putting your trust in anyone.

6: Don’t let your mistakes define your future.

Con Men try to gain your trust through a series of lies.  Trust needs to be earned through Truth, Responsibility, Unity, Service and Transparency.  Take your time and check your facts before putting your trust in anyone.

7: Confidence, Determination and Will Power:

Can you discipline yourself to operate at your highest levels, and then influence others to operate at their highest levels, all the while finding common ground, common goals and common purpose?  Can you get people to apply their time and talents and resources to follow a common vision and reach a new level of reality that never existed outside of a dream?

8: Birds of a feather flock together.

We have all heard that before, haven’t we?  So, why do birds flock together, and why do people flock together?  Do we just say birds of a feather flock together because it rhymes and we have heard it before?  Do we study the simple things we have said our whole lives?

9: Thank you for being patient with me.

Thank you for looking past my typos and seeing my meaning behind my mistakes.  I have heard we live in a Universe built on Laws of Intention.  I think I have made my Intentions clear.  Chase your dreams and learn by doing.  Get off the couch and go after making your dream a reality.  Use your talents and find your purpose.  This blog is part of me finding my purpose.  This blog is part of me using my talents.  This blog is part of me chasing my dreams.  This blog is me learning by doing.

10: The more connected we are, the more disconnected we become.

I can blog, tweet, chat or text and reach literally thousands of people in an hour.  The problem is that in that same hour, thousands of others will blog, tweet, chat and text also.  I will get more status updates on Facebook than I will ever read.  No I don’t blog about what I had for lunch or how cute my cat is… I want to believe that if I have hundreds of friends out there that I can get a few to show up to help out a charity or clean up a park.  I don’t have a problem with lots of connections; I have a problem with lots of disconnections.  We spend some much time trying to connect on-line we don’t connect in person.  I mean I want more out of cyberspace than keg parties and random who’s zooming who.  I want to believe we can connect online and then connect offline and make a difference in this world.

So thank you for being a part of 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo:

The D.E.F. of Success:

Direction, Effectiveness and Focus are the D.E.F. of Success. Everyone talks about the A.B.C.’s; everyone talks about Always Be Closing. It has been said it is the first and last rule of sales.   But who talks about the D.E.F. – Direction, Effectiveness and Focus? Well, welcome to 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo. I am going to take a stab at it. The D.E.F. of Success:

Direction, Effectiveness and Focus: My life has been full of ups and downs. I have had my share of good times and I have created some bad times. I am sorry for the bad times. Could I have been more successful in my life? Sure. So I need to reflect on what I did wrong and fix it, I need to focus on what I do well and increase it. Most of my failures have resulted from lack of Direction and Focus and Lack of Effort. Fortunately, when I have put in the effort I have usually been blessed with success. So let’s look at this again. Direction, Effectiveness and Focus are the D.E.F. of Success.

You have probably heard all the stories about working hard to be successful, and you have probably heard about working smart. Well I am going to try to break down how Direction, Effectiveness and Focus are the keys to working smart and in turn are the keys to Success. Let me set the scenario or case study. Let’s say there is a certain farmer who has 80 acres of land divided in two sections, the North 40 Acres and the South 40 Acres. Let’s say this farmer has a farm-hand and it is approaching harvest time. The farmer gets called out-of-town and has to leave the harvest to the farm-hand. The North 40 Acres are ready for harvest and the South 40 Acres we set aside to be plowed under for the next growing season. Before the Farmer leaves he gives the farm-hand the following instructions. Harvest the North 40 Acres and Plow Under the South 40 Acres.

Now if the farm-hand has no ambition he may do nothing at all, yielding no harvest before the farmer comes home. This is a case of Zero Effort yielding Zero Results. So the Farmer gives the farm-hand a pep talk and tells him they need to work hard. The next day the farm-hand begins to plow under the North 40 Acres. After a full day’s work the Farm-Hand plows under 5 acres of crops from the North 40. Now clearly the Farm-Hand has worked hard, but they put all the effort into the wrong action. Or better yet, they applied a lot of effort in the wrong direction. Not only did the Effort Yield No Result, “No Harvest” it also destroyed 25% of the Potential Crops. This is a mistake that cannot be undone with more effort. The Farm-Hand would have been better off harvesting the South 40 Acres than plowing under the North 40 Acres. You see some misguided effort can be corrected and some can’t. Clearly working harder is not the only part of the equation. You also must yield results for your efforts. If the farm-hand would have followed directions more accurately the Farmer would be satisfied with their effort.

Now let’s imagine the Farmer is in a hurry and tells the farm-hand to plow under the North 40 and harvest the South 40. Now, if the farm-hand follows these directions to the letter and applies maximum effort, again the results will be a disaster. Let’s say the farmer was gone for a week and the farm hand completely plowed under the North 40. The farmer will come home and there will be no harvest for the season. The farmer will give the farm-hand a speech about lack of focus or understanding even though the farmer gave the wrong directions. The farmer would want the farm-hand to be “Pro-active” and will say the farm-hand should have known better. So in this case it is not about effort or directions, but clearly about a lack of results. Direction, Effectiveness and Focus; this time the Farmer and the Farm-hand are both guilty of lacking focus. The farmer gave the wrong directions and the farm-hand followed with-out asking for clarification. In this case both will be frustrated by the end result.

Now let’s say that the Farm-hand is proactive and ambitious. The farm-hand checks the Farmers Almanac and the weather reports and picks a small portion of the crops each day leading up to the harvest. The farm-hand figured out that it takes a lot of effort to pick the crops at mid-day because of the heat, and that it is hard to see at the end of the day when it cools off. The farm-hand figures out that the best time to pick crops is in the early morning between 6:00 AM and Noon. The farmer can now go away and leave the farm-hand on his own still see find the harvest has been collected when he returns. Even if the farmer gives the farm-hand the wrong directions, the best result will be attained, because the farm-hand will ask for clarification before the farmer leaves or will make the needed corrections. Not only will the farm-hand yield that maximum results, but because he has stayed focused he will know when is the best time to pick the crops with the least amount of effort. This is Maximum Effectiveness to go with Clear Direction. Direction, Effectiveness and Focus are the D.E.F. of Success.

I am sure someone else could give you another case study or another story but I hope this one helps make it clear. It is very clear to me. Maybe I have convinced you. If not, I will be here next time with a new topic to discuss. For today I hope I explained why Direction, Effectiveness and Focus are the D.E.F. of Success.
