The habit of doing.

The habit of doing.

Every week I tell myself I need to update my blog. Every week.  Now mind the fact that I have been posting quotes in motivational groups on LinkedIn and Facebook almost every day.  Also, consider the fact that I have been busier than ever at this point and time in my life.

No complaints. I see a world full of possibility.  I am just stating a fact that tell yourself to do something is not doing.  It does not matter if it is something you need to do or something you want to do.  Something for your job, your hobby, your family, your friends or for yourself.  Do not create a habit of just thinking about it, or telling yourself, you need to do it.  Create a habit of doing.  Create a habit of doing something positive, do something for others and do something for yourself.  Do something that puts you one-step ahead at work or one better at your hobby.  Create a habit of doing.

The world will not change if we only think about change. We have to create the change.  Be the change you want to see in the world.  Create a habit of doing!

Persistence pays off!

The Alpha Optimist

I am the Alpha Optimist, let the games begin.

What makes me think that I can be the Alpha Optimist?  Somebody has to do it.  You have to want to do it.  You have to want to serve as Champion of the Optimists.  You have to want to be the Apex Optimist.  You see Optimism is a choice, it is a choice I was challenged to make; it is a challenge I have accepted.  It is a mountain I am scaling.  I am the Alpha Optimist, let the games begin.

Read this with a smile, otherwise you will not be able to see what I am saying.  Again I say read this with a smile; find a way to laugh along.  Otherwise you will miss it.  I can not state this enough for the record, you will not see it, if you do not smile while you read this, so read this with a smile.  I am the Alpha Optimist, the Leader of the Optimist Pack.  Maybe the Optimist Pack has not recognized my skills yet, but they will soon enough.  You see someone has to do it.  Someone has to carry the torch, and that someone is me.  You too can run with me in the Optimist Pack, You can be a Beacon of Hope.  You have to run the race to qualify.  Try to be the most positive person you can be.  Dream the biggest dreams.

What does it take to be an Optimist?  You have to believe you can make the world a better place.  You have to believe that good things do not happen by chance, but we help them along.  You have to run the race.  Start with paying it forward.  Be the person who leaves a penny at the corner store.  Be the person who gives their spare change in the fundraising cans at the gas station.  Be the person who tips better when you go out to eat.  Every little bit counts.  You see I cam giving you tips because I am the Alpha Optimist.  I am not the least bit worried about losing my title.  I am self-proclaimed.  But I can help you become more of an Optimist.

Remember to smile when you read this or you will miss the point.  I am the Apex Optimist.  So I am giving you another tip.  To make the world a better place, you have to get involved; Volunteer at a Local Church or Charity.  Lend a helping hand at an after school program.  You can make a difference.  See I am challenging you to make a difference, because I challenge myself to make a difference.  You can do it.  It is not hard, you just have to start.

I am the Big Dream Hunter, and I am leading a Safari.  You can come along.  Be the one who says “We can do it!” and mean it!  Be the one who will challenge Pessimists and Realists to a Verbal Duel.  Can you win the argument and leave everyone laughing and thinking twice?  Can you sharpen your saw against the most negative and complacent people around?  I can, that is what makes me the Champion of the Optimists.  I never back down from the chance to prove a pessimist wrong.  I never back down from the challenge of making a realist dream.  That is what it takes!  I am the Alpha Optimist, the Apex Predator of Realists and Pessimist.  Yes those camps shudder to think I may be tracking them.  Making them rethink their positions.

Don’t be afraid, it won’t hurt.  You will learn to love it.  Love the fact that you can dream big and make the world a better place.  Love the fact that you do not have to give into pity parties and doom and gloom.  The sun will rise in the East tomorrow just like it did today.  You can roll with my team, you can ride with us.  We are the Dreamers of the Big Dream; the Hunters of the Big Prize.  We will change the World.  The Trumpets will sound.  Did you remember to smile while reading this?  If you did not smile, you can not see it.  Put a smile one your face and start over.

I am the Alpha Optimist, let the games begin.

Use your give or lose your gift.

I am sure we have heard it before.  Use it or lose it.  Maybe people have said in a negative way.  I am trying to say it in a positive way.  I don’t make the rules.  I am just telling you what I have learned.  I am just telling you what I believe.  I am just telling you what I have lived.  Use your gift or lose your gift.

I want to believe that writing is a gift.  I want to believe I have a gift of gab.  I want to believe that I have a gift of Motivation and Inspiration.  All I am trying to do with this Blog is to convince people to learn the truth and chase their dreams.  I have been blogging for almost two years now.  Yes, I want to believe that enough blogging may lead to writing a book one day.  I want to believe if I read enough, and write enough and join enough conversations; that I will learn and grow and apply what I learn to my every day life.  This blog is like an open diary.  Lot’s of the things I post are things my wife and I have lived.

The act of blogging, of writing of posting and pasting links has taught me a lot in the past eighteen months or so.  One of the major things I have learned is how much more I have to learn.  I have that I can become a better writer and a better typist and a better manager of my time.  I have learned that I have to keep an open mind, but I also have to stand up for what I believe; and before I expect anyone else to do something, I have to expect myself to do it.  If I want someone else to cherish their gift, I have to cherish mine.  If I want someone else to chase their dream, I have to chase mine.  If I want someone else to use their gift to chase their dream, I have to use my gift to chase my dream.  I blog, and I volunteer and I try to help organize; I use my gift.

If you don’t use a machine it will get old and rusty.  If we do not use our gifts we can get rusty.  We can get out of practice.  We can begin to lose our gift.  We can also begin to lose sight of our dreams.  If we are not moving forward we in truth are slowly moving backwards.  We are surrounded by people who are not living their dreams, in truth we are surrounded by people who have given up on their dreams.  If we stop moving forward, if we stop chasing our dreams, if we stop using or gifts; we will listen more and more to people who have given up.  We will hear more doom and gloom.  We will start losing what we should be using.  Do you remember the good old days?  Do you believe you are past your prime?  Do you think you will never have the things you dream of having?  Then you will not use your gift, you will fall out of practice.  You will get rusty.

Use your gift or lose your gift.  Be the best that you can be at what ever you want to be doing.  Get around others who are using gifts that compliment your gift.  Teach others how to use their gifts, if their gifts compliment yours.  Be the person who says “yes we can” instead of “no we can’t.”  You have to use your gift or you may lose you gift.

How do I know?  I know because I do.  I know because I am doing.  I know because I am learning.  I know because I want to believe that I am improving.  Because of my blogging, I am typing more and I am typing faster.  Because of blogging my spelling and grammar have improved.  Because of blogging I am reading more and making fewer mistakes when I write and type.  Because of blogging I expect more of myself.  Because of blogging I am more convinced than ever that positive words and paying forward positive vibes can make a difference.

Use your gift or lose your gift.  I hope everyone out their will continue to chase their dreams.  I hope anyone who has fallen down will get up and dust themselves off and try again.  I hope everyone out there will use their gift!

The stay positive challenge:

It’s simple; find something positive to say every day, no matter what happens to you.  No matter what you are going through, find something positive to say, write or blog.  Everyday pay forward one positive thing; something as simple as saying; “What is the word of the day?”

No matter what you are going through, find something positive.  Really, it is simple to write it, it is simple to blog it, it is simple to say it; doing it is hard.  Doing it is hard until it gets easy.  Actually it starts easy and then gets hard, and then it gets easy again.  Because this blog is about motivation, the last thing I want to do is generate a pity party for myself; but I can say I have been through a roller coaster of ups and downs, and still I try to find something positive to take from everyday, and I try to find something positive to pay forward.

60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo started as a Daily Video Blog, and was hard to keep finding ways to film and edit myself on a cheap camera shooting from the hip.  It morphed into a thought of the day group on LinkedIn and a Facebook Page.  It then became a WordPress Blog, and I am happy to say the Mojo has been picked up by a community blogging circle.  Through it all, a year and a half of trying to pay positive thought forward into cyberspace on average of five times per week; I have been able to find lot’s of inspiration, and I have had my share of let downs.  My family has seen me lose every bit of my cool in anger, and still I keep trying to say; “Things will get better if you keep at it.”

It is that simple and it is that hard.  Say it everyday.  Things will get better!  Keep saying it; and say it to someone, anyone who will listen.  E-mail it, blog it, film it and post it to your social media of choice.  Things will get better, if we all get together and try to make it better.  There is more than enough doom and gloom, isn’t there?  We have to make it better.  We have to try.  I just refuse to give up.  No matter what I go through, I have to believe there is a brighter day out there for those who refuse to quit.  Persistence Pays Off!

So I have a duty to everyone who has said, “Hey I like this 60 Second dose of Motivational Mojo,” and I have a challenge for everyone out there.  Pay it forward.  Never give up.  Find something positive to take away from every day.  It will be easy, and then it will get hard, but then it will get easy again.  No matter what you are going through, never settle for second best!

We all need to W.A.K.E. – U.P.

We are all living in a dreamland.  Most of the time, we just take things at face value; we go with the flow.  We don’t want to rock the boat.  We never ask questions, like why someone needs to raise millions of dollars to run for elected office and get paid barely a fraction of what they make in the private sector.  W.A.K.E. – U.P.

Or my next question, why do so many of us work at a job where we are convinced we are smarter than our boss???  Again, because we are living in a dreamland and we need to W.A.K.E. – U.P.  Or why do we pay money we don’t have for things we don’t need or even maybe be harmful to us?  “OK Joe we get your point” you say, “now get on with this W.A.K.E. – U.P. topic.”

 W:  Ask the 5 – W questions

A:  Once answered – Activate

K:  Increase your Knowledge

E:  Stay Enthusiastic

U:  Be Uplifting

P:  Remain Positive

Here we go, another famous made up Acronym.  Yes, it is.  Maybe one day I will make a name for myself at this Positive Motivation Game, but as always, double check and cross reference for yourself!

 W.A.K.E. – U.P.

Step One:  Ask the 5-W Questions!  Who, What, When, Where and Why, followed by How and How Much.  Any decent newspaper article is supposed to answer these questions for the reader.  Do it for yourself.  Double and tripe check your sources.  And try to find out both sides of the story.  Once you have made up your mind…

Step Two:  Activate!  Get off the couch and get in the game.  Act on your knowledge.  Otherwise why do you bother to investigate it in the first place?  If has peaked your interest and you think you know the truth you should stop watching and start working.  Make a difference.

Step Three:  Increase your knowledge.  Even if you are an All-Star right out of the gate, you are still a Rookie, keep learning from the best people and sources around you.  Keep increasing your knowledge no matter how long you are in the game!  Keep getting better at the things you are doing.

Step Four:  Stay Enthusiastic.  Be the one who keeps everyone else in the game and ready to win.  Be the one who makes sure people are focused so when it is their turn at bat, they deliver.  Yeah, lots of sports analogies, but every one has to be ready to pick up the ball and run with it.  Your enthusiasm will rub off on the people around you.

Step Five:  Be Uplifting.  Try to help those who want to help themselves.  Don’t drag people down and don’t let other people drag you down.  Life is a game of tug of war, and there is no room for spectators or double agents.  Be around people who will pull together, and give a hand up to people you know are on the same team as you.  Do not let anyone drag you down, and don’t drag someone else down.

Step Six:  Stay Positive.  It is always darkest before the dawn.  The sun will rise in the East tomorrow.  Always try to find another way to encourage people.  Get in their heads.  What do you have to lose?  Stay Positive and keep teaching what you have learned to help everyone around you get better.

Remember life is a team game and we all have to W.A.K.E. – U.P.

The World Gets in the Way.

The World Gets in the Way.

I spend everyday looking for one positive thing I can pay forward. I want to become a better man, a better leader, a better husband, a better step-father and one day a father. I want a better life for me, my family, my friends and my co-workers. All these things I want to do, and the world being the world does everything it can to get in the way.

Now I have heard the secret of life is intention, and I have also heard the secret of life is faith. I have also heard of the Law of Attraction and I have heard the Opposites Attract. Which one is it, or is it all of it; either way, the world keeps doing what it can to get in the way.

The world and it’s system has thrown me off track in a number of ways. I do not work out as much as I want to, or would like to because of Time, and Energy. My Motivation is there, but the world gets in the way, when I have to work, travel for work or am zapped from all the fires I fight day to day. I know I am not the only person who feels like this, am I?

Bills, Bad News, Distractions all part of the Worlds System get in the way of so much I try to accomplish as a Husband, Step-Father, Son, Brother, Friend, and Co-Worker. Yes my intention is to remain positive and spread positive vibes out on a daily basis, if not everyday, most days. Is it easy, no it is hard! It is hard because the world does not want to make it easy. So many messages, so much clutter, so much distraction, how do you cut through it all? Faith, Intent, Determination; All of these things? Yes, All of these things.

I have a problem losing my cool, I have a problem listening more actively, and I have a problem not losing my temper around those who I love the most. I have a problem with snakes who try to use people and wolves in sheep’s clothing. Try to be the person who opens other peoples eyes to the world around them and you will see what I am talking about. But still I do this, because I feel I am called to do this, and I have learned so much about myself along the way. Not matter how much the world tries to get in the way. I will stay at it.

Cutting through all the static, or am I adding to it? Maybe a little of both who knows? Time will tell, I am feeling very committed to this cause of paying forward positive vibes. And the very lies I try to shine the light of truth on attack me. Do I fear becoming the monster I fight, yes I do. So I will be open and transparent about it and rely on faith. I am making my intentions clear, and I am standing on my faith. The world will continue to get in the way of my struggles and I will continue to fight.

So should you!

The law of attraction is a metaphysical belief or theory, that “like attracts like,” and that Human perception of what is positive and negative thinking bring about positive and negative perceived results, respectively

Positively charged objects and negatively charged objects experience an attractive force.

Intention is an agent’s specific purpose in performing an action or series of actions, the end or goal that is aimed at. Outcomes that are unanticipated or unforeseen are known as unintended consequences.

Faith is confidence or trust in a person or entity.

One post at a time, one view at a time, one reader at a time:

One post at a time, one view at a time, one reader at a time:

Each post is like a small ripple on the vast ocean that is the internet. So many people with so much to say, are there enough readers to go around? It’s all been said before; it’s all been done before, and who am I to be giving people advice? So why bother? I bother because I have something to say, and maybe there are people out there who are thinking similar thoughts or going through similar circumstances. Maybe there are a few people out there who just need to know that the only people giving advice are not the rich and entitled. Maybe somebody just wants to hear what an average, ordinary Joe is thinking.

One post at a time, one view at a time, one reader at a time:

Each view is a possible connection. Somebody read what I have to say, or maybe it was just me poking around my own site, who knows. But if I am persistent enough and stack up enough posts, maybe I will get noticed; maybe a few more views will happen. Anyway, I still believe that if I keep sending out positive vibes, there is someone out there who will listen. Maybe my composition skills are not on par with the professional journalists who have proof readers, fact checkers, years of experience and editors on their side, and I have nothing more than my own muse. I still believe I can connect, and I hope there are more people out there who feel the same way: People who might want to hear the voice of the not yet famous motivational coach on the rise.

One post at a time, one view at a time, one reader at a time:

So I will continue to post and hope for a few more views here and there, but the real belief is that more and more readers will tune in… That if enough posts turn into enough views, there will be enough there for people to look into, to find inspiration in something more than the perspiration on trying to cut through all the negative vibes and carve out a small niche in cyberspace; to turn from average to above average, to turn from ordinary to extraordinary. So I will give the little extra, I will keep reaching for the stars. I will keep searching, typing, posting and hoping that I can encourage a few people to believe for a little more, and sooner or later we can all make a difference.

This ain’t my first rodeo.

This ain’t my first rodeo.

As the cowboys would say, “This ain’t my first rodeo.”  No this blog has been a long time coming.  As they would say in the city, “I have been around the block”

Before “Facebook” was all the rage, I was collecting friends and creating groups on “Myspace.”  I was promoting club nights and also trying to promote for some artist friends of mine.  I have built some teams and watched them fall apart, and I have helped out with charity events and fundraisers, some more successful than others.

I started a video log on “Youtube” about two years ago with the goal of uploading a positive message clip a day for a year; much easier said than done.  Yeah, I still upload a clip every now and then, but I have switched jobs a couple of times and find it harder and harder to shoot video from the hip without sounding the same after 100 or so videos.

I have been connecting with lots of people on “Linkedin” recruiters and classmates and colleagues.  I have been trying to create a network where I can help other people find a new job.  I believe that karma or the search for nirvana has been the reason that I have been able to land on my feet even though I am sometimes on shaky ground.

And so I keep on, trying to build a community where I can spread a message of hope for a brighter tomorrow.  One blog at time, one link at a time, one friend at a time, one clip at a time; I do believe one day it will all come together.  One day we will all be able to come together and co-promote each other in a positive way, where we can all be better off and make the world better off.

No this ain’t my first rodeo and it won’t be my last rodeo.  I can recite the parade of clichés.  Keep Swinging, Keep Swimming, Keep Running, Keep Fighting, Keep Trying, Stay Positive, Stay in the Hunt, Fight the Good Fight, Do not go quietly into that good night, Keep Shooting, Keep Reaching; Yes, Yes, Yes, I will!

No this ain’t my first rodeo, I will continue to get back in the saddle.

Create a place for yourself and control your music choices.

Does the music you listen to affect your mood.

Of course it does, we listen to happy music when we are happy; and we listen to sad music when we are sad.  We condition ourselves with the music and the music conditions us.  We listen to certain styles of music when we are young, and discover what we think is New music as we age, and when we get older we realize it all been done before, it has just been given a shiny new coat of paint.

Uplifting music is written in Major Keys with Ascending Progressions, Depressing Music is written in Minor Keys with Descending Progressions.  Can it affect your moods, sure it can.  To what effect, that depends on strength of the mind of the listener.  When we want to reminisce about the past, we put on the Good Old Time Records.  When we are up for the weekend, maybe we want to hear something fun and new.  Music is used in Movies, TV, Advertising and Radio to get us to get up and buy or buy in to things.

So what we listen to can condition us without our knowledge; or if we are strong minded, when can use this conditioning to our advantage.  When I have a lot of work to get done, I have certain playlists I listen to at work.  Because I work in a Technical Field, I like to listen to Techno Movie Soundtrack type stuff that makes me feel like I can control the Matrix.  When I workout, I like to listen to up tempo music that sets the pace and the mood.

So when you want to relax or reflect, listen to the music that will let you do so, but don’t let it trap you in… Don’t listen to depressing music and stay depressed.  Listen to it to get over your depression and then get back into the positive, motivational kind of stuff that sends a “Can Do” message into your brain.  We could spend all day talking about the subconscious effect music can have on you, and how skillful musicians and producers use certain techniques to convey certain feelings; or I can just say, be smart about your music choices and use them to your advantage.

Like what you like because you like it, and do not let the tastes of your friends lead you down a path you don’t want to go.  If you get the most done while listening to something only you like, load it on your favorite electronic gizmo and put on your headphones and have at it.  Control your choices, control your moods and control your outcomes.  Don’t let the world control your thinking, create a place for yourself and control your music choices.

In short, this is the point of my blog.

Finding something positive to say everyday:

Sounds easy but give it a try.  The world around you seems to be getting more and more negative, but be the person to find one positive thing to say everyday.  Try writing it down.  In short this is the point of my blog, my pursuit of finding something positive to say on a daily basis.

Yes it sound cliché, if I can help one person get through a bad day, then it is all worth it.  You know what?  It really is worth it.  Misery loves company and I find myself giving misery the company it is looking for from time to time.  Before the conversation is over, try to interject a positive thought, a positive idea.  “Everything will be OK” is a start but it is not enough.  Keep at it, face your fears, learn something new, roll with the punches… trust me, the more you do it, the more you go positive, the easier it becomes.

Then it gets harder, it gets harder not to sound like a walking, talking, superficial uncaring self-help clone.  And if that is what you turn into, the world is better for having you saying something positive instead of telling people there is no hope.  There is always hope, there is always an answer.  It may not be easy or easily apparent, but the answer for pretty much every situation is out there waiting to be found.

So give it a try, every day… find one positive thing to take away from everyday.  Find one positive thing to say everyday.  Then write it down, in a journal, on a calendar, heck open up a note pad program and log it or e-mail it to yourself.  If you are brave, start paying it forward to your friends.

In short, this is the point of my blog.
