If you think you can do a thing or think you can’t do a thing, you’re right. Henry Ford
I agree with Henry Ford to a point. It is hard to argue against one of the most successful business men in the history of the world, but let’s take another look at his quote. If you think you can do a thing or think you can’t do a thing, you’re right. I 100% agree with if you think you can’t do a thing, you’re right. If you think you can do a thing do a thing, may require a little more work than just thinking.
Thinking is the start. Acting, learning, adjusting those are the much needed next steps. If you are convinced, you can’t do a thing you are right. But if you think you can but you never act, then you are wrong. It is ok to be confident, but you also have to deliver. Sink some energy and effort into what you think you can do, and prove it.
If you think you can do a thing or think you can’t do a thing, you’re right. Henry Ford created enough wealth for his children’s children and beyond. By applying the assembly line to the automotive industry, Henry Ford helped shape the modern world. Now, what is it that you think you can do? Will you apply a little elbow grease and maybe invite others to join in; or will you sit back, wait for someone else to do it and then say “I told you so?” Or will you sit back, say no one can do it and you will be right; until someone does it of course. If you think you can’t do a thing, you’re right. That will not stop others from trying though.
I have heard it said that the worst thing that can happen is that a small dream comes true. I think the worst thing that can happen is someone else reaches your dream while you sit around and say that is impossible. The beauty of it all is that I will not spoil many pity parties. Those that are convinced they will never change the world, never will. Then there are the rest of us. The ones with something to prove. Thinking we can is not enough. Now we have to actually try.
Make It Happen:
Think it, speak it, act on it. Learn it, teach it, make it grow. This is how you make it happen. So many thoughts to try to type and upload to this blog; Welcome to 60 seconds of motivational mojo.
I have heard it said we are the some total of our actions. I have also heard it said that our thoughts become our words and our words become our actions. I have also heard it said that the same thinking that created a problem cannot solve the problem. So for us to change our circumstance we must first change our thinking. Think it, speak it, act on it.
So if our thoughts become our words and our words become our actions we have to protect our thinking. Positive thinking will create positive words and positive action. Negative thinking will create negative words and negative action. So if we want positive outcomes should we not create as mush positive action as possible? Should we not stay positive in our thinking and our actions and surround ourselves with positive people? Should we not change our words to reflect our thinking? Should we not challenge the words of others? Shouldn’t we engage people with positive words in our speaking and find out who agrees and who disagrees with our thinking? Think it, speak it, act on it.
So now it is not enough to just run around saying we will make things better. Ever heard talk is cheap? So if we are going to say it shouldn’t we at the very least try to do positive things? I often find it amazing that people will say, “There should be a law” or that “People should do the right thing” but then they do not vote or get involved. So want should you do? You should do the things you believe should get done. You should back your words with actions. If you feel that the schools are failing your children, maybe you should volunteer to tutor, or start a homework club with local families. Do you believe that kids need a safe place to play; then maybe you should clean up a local park? Don’t just think it, don’t just say it; act on it!
Think it, speak it, act on it. Learn it, teach it, make it grow. This is how you make it happen. So I am convinced enough to try to grow a system from scratch. I firmly believe that I can change my thinking and change my speaking and act on it by volunteering; but there is more to do. I have heard it said that if you want to be a success, create success in others. All these things that I am typing are things I had to learn. I had to search and open myself to answers. So, here I am trying to learn it for myself and then try to teach it to others. I am trying to teach the things I feel that I am good at and learn what others are good at doing. Learn by doing and learn by teaching. Learn it, teach it and make it grow.
So how do you make it grow? Create a system and teach it to as many people as possible. Create a system and learn from it. Create a system and act on it. Create a system and tell everyone about it. Create a system that you believe in based on your thoughts and dreams. Think it, speak it, act on it. Learn it, teach it, make it grow.
I am not telling you what to do or how to do it. I am telling you to try and learn from your efforts and teach what you learn to others. I am saying you can if you will try, learn and try again. I am saying you can if you will challenge your thinking and your speaking and your actions. Think it, speak it, act on it. Learn it, teach it, make it grow.
Welcome to 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo. This is where I ponder my observations and give the only advice that I think is worth it; the kind of advice that I aspire to follow. So today’s Topic: Think, Learn, Grow and Know.
Ever watched someone dunk a basketball? I have seen it many times. Usually when someone learns to dunk a basketball they started when they were young, playing on courts with baskets at heights lower than in the Professional leagues. They run, they jump and they shoot. They practice, they think about dunking, they learn the game, they study the game and they grow over time. The lucky ones who grow tall enough and the harder working ones who continue to jump and jump and jump until they develop the power, the ones who never give up; those are the ones who one day dunk that basketball. They think about it, they learn about it and they grow. I have never dunked a basketball, it was never something I spent a lot of time trying to do; but those who have know first-hand what it feels like to dunk a basketball.
So maybe you do not want to dunk a basketball, maybe you have a different dream. The first step is to think about it. But I warn you thinking about it is only the first step. The next step is to learn about it. This is a very important step. Sometimes people think they know something and they never double-check the facts. Once you think about something it is important to learn more aboout it. Find out the facts.
I always dreamed about being a musician. I would dream about it and think about what I would do if I bought a Drum Set, or a Guitar or a Bass Guitar. I saved my money and I bought a Bass Guitar. I learned to play on a Small Scale Bass. I learned and as I got better I played with Bands where we would practice. We could not play all that well, we had to grow as musicians to get better. We had to think about what we wanted to play, we had to learn the songs separately and then grow together to be able to play the song as a band. Some songs worked and some didn’t. We had to think, learn and grow before we knew what worked. To really know something you need to think about it, learn about it, and then grow into it.
Lots of kids have dreamed about being Professional Athletes and Professional Entertainers but not everyone knows what it feels like to make it to the big time. I have never made it to the big time, but I have done pretty well on the smaller scale. Once you have played on stage with a few different bands, you know more than the people who never got out and tried. Dreaming about it and thinking about it are not enough. You have to learn about it and grow into to it to really know something.
I am here to tell you that your dreams are possible. I am here to tell you to take these four simple steps. Think, Learn, Grow and Know. To really know something, these are the steps you have to take. I have been blogging for three years now. Three years of learning by doing. Three years of thinking about what I wanted to type and post. Three years of losing posts that I thought about but did not get a chance to type in because I was busy doing other things. I learned that sometimes you just have to take notes and make a list of possible blog titles. I learned you have to make the time to type in what you are thinking about. I learned that I had to grow as an Author. So I am learning and growing each time that I post to my blog. I think about it, learn about it, and I have grown into blogging; so now I know what it takes to post on a regular basis. I still have more to learn, I still have more growing to do; but to truly know something, I must put my time in.
Think, Learn, Grow and Know. So I have spent a great deal of my life either making music or DJ’ing. I have spent a lot of my life in front of a crowd. I have also spent a lot of time working out, learning and growing. We are at our best when we think, we learn and we allow ourselves to grow into what we want to become. We have to grow to truly know the things we want to learn. I have learned that to continue to grow there are things I need to teach others. I have heard the famous quote, if you can’t explain something in simple terms you don’t know it well enough. I have learned that teaching, coaching and mentoring help your knowledge grow deeper. Teaching others means you have to relate to people on many different levels. People learn in different ways. The best way to teach is to listen to the questions and feedback that your students are giving you. The best way to coach and mentor is to set a good example, demonstrate and then watch and listen to those you are coaching. The way to teach is to keep learning. The best way to teach is to keep growing.
Think, Learn, Grow and Know! I have watched many people dunk a basketball. I have thought about it and I have learned about it, but I have never done it. I do not know what it is like to dunk a basketball. I have played many different instruments and many styles of music. I had to think about them, learn about each instrument and style of music; and I had to grow as a musician. To really know what it took to play them and to know what it feels like to play onstage in front of people; I had to think and learn and grow.
I think this is inside all of us. I believe that all of us can learn and grow. This is why I am learning to be a better leader, coach and mentor. I can learn and grow by helping others learn and grow. I can know more by helping others know more. That is what leadership is all about, serving others so they can know for themselves. Think, Learn, Grow and Know!
From Loner to Leader:
Can you really make the jump from a Loner to a Leader? Yes, you can; but not in one quick step. I have been a loner in the middle of a crowd my whole life. I have study, reflected on and challenged myself to become a better leader. I think anyone can make the transition; you may have to ask yourself a few questions and overcome a few hurdles; but let me say it again. You can go from Loner to Leader.
So I totally understand why people become and consider themselves “Loners.” Maybe you feel misunderstood? Maybe you feel like to do things right you need to do them yourself. Maybe you feel frustrated by everyone talking and no one acting so you are tired of waiting around and you go it alone. Either path can lead to becoming a loner. So “Why” you may ask; “Why then become a Leader?” The answer is simple. Teams get more done and birds of a feather flock together. Sooner or later if you are doing anything worthwhile, you will get noticed. If you want to increase your chance of success, increase your leadership skills.
Let me say this again; this does not happen in one quick step. Here are the steps I have discovered along the way. The first Step is to believe that you are doing something worthwhile. What you think matters. What you are doing matters. If you are not thinking or doing anything then even that matters. If you are not thinking; start. If you are not doing; start. Think and act upon the things that you believe are worthwhile. You may feel all alone in the beginning; this is OK, we all don’t think alike. Just get started and believe in what you are doing regardless if anyone helps you at this stage. I beg of you, do something positive. Don’t let life pass you by and all you are left with is sour grapes.
Step Two is to learn more about what you are doing. Search out information from experts. Scour the internet, go to the library, read a book, watch a “How to Program;” do what it takes to increase your knowledge of what you are doing! This is a very important step. You need to know when someone is snowing you, you need to know when someone is scamming you or promising you things they cannot deliver. This may have been one of the reasons you became a loner in the first place. Don’t be the person who talks without knowing; know what you are doing and what you are talking about.
Step Three is to get around people who are doing the things you are aspiring to do also. Learn from them and talk to them face to face. This is why Step One and Two are so important. You have to know that you are bringing your unique skill and style to the table and that you deserve a place at the table. You will become known for what you know and what you do. Do you better than anyone else can.
Step Four is to practice, practice and practice some more; both in a group and by yourself. Practice with the intention of continually getting better at what you do. Again, you must believe that what you are doing is worthwhile, and that you are good at what you do. You do not have to be perfect, you just have to be good and have your own style and your own ideas.
Step Five is to accept the fact that you need a mentor. This must be someone you can trust, and the best way to trust them is to know what you are doing and where you are going and to get around enough people so you know who is serious and who is just faking it. Find a mentor who is the real deal. Find someone you look up to and is not trying to feed you a line. This will help you grow even faster.
Step Six is to in turn mentor others. This is where you will really see why being a leader matters. You will get more done and you will learn more. Being a loner means it is harder to find new information and you have to learn by trial and error. Trial and error is an ok place to start in a safe environment, but you really want to excel, a strong team environment is the best place to learn and grow. Being a Leader inside of the group means you can help shape the vision and direction of the group and you can also help protect the group from people who are there to take advantage of others or to waste time.
Be the Real Deal. Know that what you are doing is worthwhile. Sometimes it seems like being a loner is the faster and easier way. It may seem like it at the start, but in the end; team work wins out. A strong team can carry a heavy load, can cover more ground and in the end will thrive. You can go from Loner to Leader; just follow the steps!
You can go from Loner to Leader!
Step One is to believe that you are doing something worthwhile.
Step Two is to learn more about what you are doing.
Step Three is to get around people who are doing the things you are aspiring to do also.
Step Four is to practice, practice and practice some more; both in a group and by yourself.
Step Five is to accept the fact that you need a mentor.
Step Six is to in turn mentor others.
From Loner to Leader:
Welcome to 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo. Welcome to another blog where I try to convince you to examine how you think and how you reach conclusions. Everything we think we know is based on faith. Everything you think you know is based on faith. Everything that I know is based on faith. The fact that you are reading this means you can read or translate English. So for me to even communicate this to you is based on my and your faith in the English language.
So let’s begin again. I had to learn English, how to speak it, read it and write it. English is the foundation of my learning. I have to put faith in my ability to comprehend in English to be able to continue to learn and possibly learn another language. English is the foundation for my learning. I have to take this on faith that anything I try to communicate is taken with the proper intentions.
So let’s talk about faith, and truth and reality. All of us are seeking something. Some of us, I hope are seeking more knowledge of the truth and reality. Know before we can argue if the truth is realitive or absolute; and if there is one reality or alternate realities we must have a common basis or language to communicate. If we are using the same language we place our faith in that language. If we are using different languages, we are putting our faith in those languages and their translations.
So we put our trust, we place our faith in the language that we speak and our ability to absorb and communicate knowledge. It does not matter if you believe in God, or Logic or Luck or any combination of the three; where you believe and what you believe is where you put your faith! Everything we think we know is based on faith. Everything that I think that I know is based on faith. Everything you think you know is based on faith.
I believe by faith that the truth is absolute. I believe by faith that there is one reality. I believe by faith there is a heaven and a hell. Everything I think I know is based on faith. I put my faith in English, and I put my faith in God and I put my faith in my ability to continue to learn and grow based on these things. Everything we think we know is based on faith!
We can argue this for hours and hours and days and days, but the foundation of our communication will still be based on our faith in our languages, and our ability to translate those languages. Everything that I type and post here can be dragged into a translator and translated into any number of languages in a matter of minutes. I have used this at work to translate Spanish and French to and from English on many occasions. It takes my faith in those languages and the common messages to get my work done. So I can work with people regardless of local customs and national beliefs, based on my faith in the information systems that are in place to make our lives easier. My ability to grow in my professional and personal life is based on faith. Everything I learn and everything I try to communicate, takes faith.
Wasn’t that easy to understand? Even if you don’t believe like I believe, we have a common faith in the Internet, English and any language that this can be translated into as the foundation of this post being read. Regardless if we agree, each of us has faith in something. Each of us believes in something. Everything we think we know is based on faith!
Welcome to 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo. I try to inspire you, and really I just want to inspire myself. So here I am typing as fast as I can think and hoping it makes sense. Have you heard it said that people need to think outside the box? Well I say the best way to think outside the box is to never get in the box in the first place. Don’t allow yourself to believe we are made in some mold. We are all unique and we need to celebrate the fact that we will all never fit into the same box, but we can still learn from each other. Stay out of the box if you want to think outside the box.
Are you a self-starter? Can you work quickly in an ever-changing environment? Can you manage several projects and several customers? Does this sound like a lot of job descriptions? Why is it that we are all supposed to fit the mold in the corporate world to get a job, but then to be successful; book after book is written about thinking outside the box? Why is it that we identify success with a suit and a tie and working long hours so we can have the money to not have to wear a suit and tie and work long hours?
So to think outside the box, don’t get in the box in the first place. Be who you are and try to improve but never forget that you are unique. You were not made in a mold, you we hand crafted by God to be unique. Don’t try to fit into a box, try to find what is a good fit for you! Each of us has different skills and different personalities. The best fit for me may be the worst fit for you. I am not trying to put you in a box.
Listen the best way to figure out what you should be doing is to figure out who you are and what are your talents. Try to figure out the best way to use your gifts without getting forced into someone else’s vision of who you are and who you should become. The Big House, the Nice Car, the way you dress are all trappings of the box that is marketed to us. We are supposed to live and act a certain way to be measured as a success. Whose standards are we chasing? Our own or something someone else has agreed on? The best way to think outside the box is to never get trapped in the box.
Imagine for a second my father was a plumber, and owned a plumbing business in New England. What if he wanted me to take over the family business, but I want to push an Ice Cream Cart on the beach in California and play guitar in the bars on the weekend. So my Dad’s version of success and my version could be radically different. Success for me may be chasing a record contract while success to my dad may be opening a second family store.
Innovation does not come when we all think the same way. Innovation comes when people who disagree work together to find a new way, or someone brings something new to the table. You can be that person. What makes you special? You must know your own talents and your own personality. You have to know what you bring to the table. Trying to be like everyone else will not put you in the place to bring anything new into the picture. Stay out of the box.
You were not made in a mold. You were hand crafted for greatness. The more you try to fit in a box, the less you will remember what makes you special. The best way to think outside the box is to never get in the box.
Hello again, Welcome, or better yet welcome back. Are you the kind of person who seems to worry more than everyone else? I hope you are not the kind of person who worries about things and then never does anything about them. Worrying will never solve your problems. Either what ever you are worrying about has to be important enough to act on, or you should stop worrying because there is nothing you can do about it anyway.
Have you heard of the Serenity Prayer? “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.” I may not be the biggest fan of this prayer, but I will say; it has helped a lot of people, maybe it can help you. See I believe in Courage and Wisdom, I just have tough time accepting things without at least trying to make a difference. I am not good at just accepting things the way they are without question.
Now I am not telling you to walk around doubting things. I am trying to get you to stop worrying about things. Either you do your best or stop worrying. If you will not bother to try to make things better and learn from your mistakes, than why worry? If you are surrounded by people who refuse to try to make things better or learn from their mistakes, why do you worry? You either accept them for who they are and stop worrying; or surround yourself with different people. Worrying will never solve your problems.
There is a famous Einstein quote about the definition of insanity. I have heard it so many times I have come to not like it any more. I like the other quote about the same level of thinking that caused a problem will not solve the problem. If you are not willing to think things through and get up and act on what ever is bothering you, then why worry? Why not say a prayer and let it go?
I am not telling you to never worry; I am telling you that worrying will not solve your problems. Worry may lead you to take a second look at something, but again why worry if you will not act on it? If you can’t change what ever you are worrying about, why worry? Why not say a prayer and move on?
Let’s test my theory with an extremely basic example. Let’s say I am the kind of person who loves sunshine, hates rain and I am afraid of the moon. Now, I can get up everyday when the sun is shining and by happy, let rain make me sad, and then hide under the covers every time I see the moon. What good is that doing me? Now, maybe I like the sun because I like being out doors and hate the rain because I can’t go outside. Maybe it is time for me to find a new hobby I can do while it is raining, but I can not stop rain from falling can I? I can move to a climate that has less rain, but I can not stop rain or change the weather where I live. Now how about the moon light? In this example moon light scares me. So maybe I can study about the moon and find out where my fear comes from, or I can say a prayer for the moon not to hurt me and get on with my life. It will be impossible to find a place on earth where I can hide from the moon. I will have to accept the fact that Sunshine, Moonlight and Rain drops are all part of life on earth, but I can also act on my emotions and fears. I can control a certain part of how I react to sunny days, rainy days and the moon at night. I must have the courage to learn and act on my emotions, not just sit around and worry.
Now listen, I have a lot of faith. I have a lot of faith in God. But, I am not the kind of person who sits around and says, “It is all in God’s hands.” This may seem like a paradox, it is all in God’s hands in the end, but God has given us a say so in our lives also. We have choices we can make. We do not have to put ourselves in bad, risky or dangerous situations time and time again; and then either worry all the time, or just sit back and say it is in God’s hands. I hope you understand the point I am trying to make.
Let me put it this way. If I lived near a Volcano that is active; I can either act like the volcano will never erupt again, or prepare for the volcano to erupt, or prepare to leave the area. Again, sitting around worrying about the volcano erupting will not change anything. The volcano will smoke and it will erupt based on things that none of us can control. Either we prepare and do the best we can, or we pray and accept whatever answer we receive. Worrying will never solve your problems.
So in conclusion, I will give you this much. A little bit of worry is o.k. if it shines the light on a problem and you will either accept it or act on it. But worry for the sake of worrying will not change anything. Worrying will never solve your problems. Either you get up and act, or say a prayer and accept things for what they are worth.
Search out Awesome on the internet or look it up in the dictionary. Would you like to be known as or do something awesome? I would. And I am here to motivate those of you who agree with me, in 60 seconds or less with whatever mojo I can muster. Maximum Awesomeness or Max Awesome for short; can be yours if you will lend me your ears, or eyes in this case.
How to Gain Awesome! Can you become more awesome? Sure you can. I will run down the steps for you. Erase all doubt and follow me on this one. Did you search out awesome? Are you ready? OK, let’s do this!
Lot’s of times when people start a new workout or new exercise routine they want to either lose weight or build muscle. I am telling you that the answer is the same if you will shift your thinking. Forget about losing weight or gaining muscle, focus your mind on Maximizing your Awesomeness. How do you gain awesome? It starts in your mind.
Focus your mind on the fact that you can be awesome. Think about the things you like to do. Focus on your goals and hobbies and dreams and wishes. Stretch them to their limits, say in your mind that you can be awesome. Don’t say it out loud, or at least not when people are around. Keep these thoughts inside your head; when someone says you can’t do something, repeat in your mind that you can. Repeat in your mind the fact that you can gain awesome, you can aspire to Maximum Awesomeness; Max Awesome for short!
Now act on your thoughts. Action creates confidence. If you want to lose weight, start working out. If you want to gain muscle, start working out. If you want to play the guitar, practice. If you want to sing or dance, practice. If you want to be a great accountant, practice. You have to act on your thoughts. Awesome does not fall out of the sky; that is luck. Awesome has to be built upon. If you have set you mind to being awesome, then you have to create a habit of working toward being awesome.
Maximum Awesomeness, you have to be convinced. You have to be inspired. You have to think awesome thoughts and build upon awesome actions. You have to use a system of rewards to continue to motivate yourself. If you are working out, eat the foods that make you feel good about your workout. Listen to music that makes you feel good about your workout. Watch shows that get you pumped up before your workout. Don’t over think it, focus and act. Same with playing the guitar, or dancing, or singing, or being an accountant; I am not being funny, you have to be convinced and inspired. No one is going to hand you awesomeness on a silver platter.
Now, if you are working hard, and you are making gains; if you are gaining awesome, if you are about to reach a state of Maximum Awesomeness, do not put your self in a position where you will self destruct. Lots of people try to take short cuts, or push things too far. Some people engage in destructive behavior on their road to awesomeness. Do you want to be a flash in the pan, or do you want to leave a lasting legacy? Know your limits, and then help others maximize their awesomeness. Do you want to be known as Max Awesome? You have to believe you can do it, you have to keep it in your head, and then you have to protect it. Don’t destroy your own progress. Not everyone will want you to be awesome, so why would you destroy what you have worked so hard to gain?
Set your mind on awesome thoughts; be inspired by awesome things, and see yourself in awesome situations. Maximum Awesomeness is a mental thing before and after it is a physical thing. Awesomeness can not be bought, it has to be built. You will not be awesome because you buy an awesome computer, but you could be known as awesome if you built an awesome computer. You will not be known as awesome if you have a great guitar and can’t play it. You could be known as awesome regardless of what kind of guitar you own, if you are the best guitar player your friends have ever seen. You can’t buy awesomeness, you have to build it; you have to create it!
Max Awesome must become your goal, your state of mind, your practice and your reality check. Remember, it is about a lasting legacy, not an endless stream of self-destructive behavior. To reach Maximum Awesomeness you have to continually be building on and protecting your level of awesome. You have to be convinced that you can gain awesome, no matter what level you are at currently. It starts with your thoughts, and it follows with your actions. Remember you can’t buy it, you have to build it. It’s not the car, it’s the driver!
I have plenty of Mojo left, but I am taking up more than 60 seconds of your time. Stay tuned. You will see a common thread in my posts. I believe that you can be awesome. I believe you can because I believe I can. I am trying to inspire myself as much as I am trying to inspire you. Maximum Awesomeness, Max Awesome for short; make it your goal!
The Pessimist says “What difference does it make?” The Realist says “How much difference does it make?” The Optimist says “It will make a difference?”
So the Optimist hopefully will not give in and give up. See it is my belief that pessimists have no vision and realists have given up on what ever vision they used to have, so it is vitally important that the optimist gets around other optimists. It is very important that an optimist does not lose their vision.
The Pessimist says “It does not make a difference.” The Realist says “It does not make much of a difference.” The Optimist says “It does make a difference.”
So hopefully the Optimist will get around other Optimists and work with and learn from them. See it is very dangerous to be an untrained Optimist around a bunch of Pessimists or so-called Realists. They will drown you out, and you may begin to sound like them. If you begin to sound like them, you may begin to think like them. If you begin to think like them, you may begin to lose your vision. It is a sad day indeed when an Optimist begins to lose their vision. Therefore I pray that you do not lose your vision.
The Pessimist says “I can never make a difference.” The Realist says “I can not make much of a difference.” The Optimist says “I can make a difference.”
So I hope and pray they that all the Optimists out there will listen closely and surround themselves with other Optimists. And listen, work and learn because talk is cheap and action speaks louder than words. So let you actions speak loudly, and teach your vision and follow your dreams; and train others to follow their dreams. You have to believe you can make a difference.
The Pessimist says “Life Stinks.” The Realist says “Things will not change.” The Optimist says “Life is Great!”
So believe that a great life is out there, and chase after it. Believe you can have it; believe that you can make a difference. Surround yourself with people who are looking for win – win scenarios, and are not trying to set anyone up for failure. Surround yourself with people who believe we are better off together. Surround yourself with people who want to make the world a better place.
Listen very closely to what the people around you say. Figure out who are pessimists, who are realist and who are optimists. Don’t give in to the people who want to destroy your vision and kill your dreams. Get around dreams others who are actually doing something. Get around people who want to make a difference. Get around people who are making a difference.
There is what you think about, what you know and what you are convinced about. Things are different when you are convinced about something versus just thinking or knowing about something. When you are convinced about something you are committed to act. It is the action that separates being convinced from thinking and knowing.
I think vitamins are good for me. So I do a little research on the subject. After looking over the data, after looking over all the pros and cons, I know that vitamins are good for me; but if I don’t take them on a daily basis I am not convinced. Now me personally, I take vitamins almost every day. I am convinced that taking my vitamins on a daily basis is good for me. It is the action, the commitment that shows I am convinced. People do a lot of talking about what they think and what they know, but if you watch their actions you will see what level of commitment they have to what they say they know. Their actions will reveal if they are convinced or not.
I think that exercising on a regular basis is good for me. I have been into working out, running, biking and various sports my whole life. When I workout I feel better in mind, body and spirit. Yeah sometimes I get tired, sore, and hungry; all the classic excuses; but over the long haul, I like to work out. I know that it is good for me. Now how convinced I am is directly reflected in how often I work out; how often do I overcome the excuses? I can make a list of the excuses why I do not work out, No Time, Tired after work, No Time, No Energy, No Time; or I can set the excuses aside and go out and do what I know I should be doing.
You have to be convinced. I have to be convinced. People will try things because they think it will work. People will do things because they know it will work, but people continue to do things because they are convinced. Being convinced goes beyond flavor of the month fads or peer pressure. If I am convinced of something, all my family, friends, co-workers and acquaintances can say that I am crazy; but I will still find a way to do the things I am convinced I should be doing. Does this make sense? Being convinced takes things to a whole new level. This is not just a put your money where you mouth is dare; even though that is a great litmus test. If people say what they think, and they say what they know; if they are convinced they will do what they say.
I don’t want anyone to do something because I told them too. I don’t want anyone to take my advice without double checking the facts. So, if you are not convinced, test my theory. The motto of the college I went to is Theory and Practice. If people do not Practice what they Preach then they are not really convinced, and you are just being conned. Finding out what the real level of commitment is how you find out how real the level of conviction. No not convict, like put in jail. Conviction like action backing up words, some people call it “Walking the Talk”
Stand back, look from a distance; do people do what they say they are going to do? Now stand back, and look in the mirror; do you do what you say you are going to do? If not, you are not convinced. Thinking and knowing will not change the world. Action based on conviction can change the world.
