How much do you believe in what you do?

How much do you believe in what you do?

Welcome to Impact – 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo. In truth, I started this blog to motivate myself. I wanted to see if I could find something, anything good to say once or twice a week. This blog started as an online Motivational diary and as a step in my quest to become a Motivational Speaker.

The Beacon of Hope Challenge was a quote of the day challenge I promoted on LinkedIn and also started an Impact Group there. The Point of Light Network grew out of the Beacon of Hope Challenge. A bunch of people who were leaving daily good news posts wanted to get together and host a Motivational Workshop. We were spread out all across North America so we settled on Milwaukee Wisconsin for a weekend planning session. So like any startup we planned for the Big Dream. Now years later I have learned from the reality. Good things take time.

How much do you believe in what you do?

I have not given up the dream. No, I have only become more driven to see it become reality. But I have also learned from the mistake of thinking that everything will fall into place because we just hope for it to fall into place. Every idea, every post, every word spoken requires action. If people will not chase their own ideas, then others will not just do it for them. Not without a lot of money or authority behind it that is to say. So I live and I learn and I dream on.

How much do I believe I can make a difference without throwing a bunch of money at a problem? I want to see it bad enough to keep blogging and posting and searching for people who will work together, not because they are paid to or forced to; but work together because they want to work together. So here I am, on quest to find 100 jobs for 100 people and to spread the word about getting involved at places like Food Banks and Homeless Shelters. I am looking to bring together Bloggers, Speakers, Volunteers, Recruiters and HR Reps to pull off the trifecta. Motivational Workshops, Career Fairs and Volunteer Drives all rolled into one. This will take time, but good things take time. I am in no hurry.

Everything is possible

How much do you believe in what you do?

I was in a hurry once, and I learned from it. It will happen when it is supposed to happen; now I am supposed to keep pushing for it to happen and asking for help.  So I ask for your help. Join us On LinkedIn: & Facebook. Post good news and share your story. Invite people to join you when you volunteer. Give back to your community!

How much do you believe in what you do? Do you do it for the money? Do you do it so that others can learn and grow from what you do? Do believe enough to stay at it as it ebbs and flows, shrinks and grows, appears to be broken and needs fixing? I do. I am still here. I am still blogging and I am still asking people to pay it forward without worrying about where the money will come from. Pay it forward in kind words and kind deeds. Work together and volunteer for charity. I am not asking anyone to put themselves in harm’s way or believe they have to invest in a system to get rich quick. I believe it because I can see it, even if others don’t see it yet.

How much do you believe in what you do?

From Loner to Leader:

From Loner to Leader:

Can you really make the jump from a Loner to a Leader? Yes, you can; but not in one quick step. I have been a loner in the middle of a crowd my whole life. I have study, reflected on and challenged myself to become a better leader. I think anyone can make the transition; you may have to ask yourself a few questions and overcome a few hurdles; but let me say it again. You can go from Loner to Leader.

So I totally understand why people become and consider themselves “Loners.” Maybe you feel misunderstood? Maybe you feel like to do things right you need to do them yourself. Maybe you feel frustrated by everyone talking and no one acting so you are tired of waiting around and you go it alone. Either path can lead to becoming a loner. So “Why” you may ask; “Why then become a Leader?” The answer is simple. Teams get more done and birds of a feather flock together. Sooner or later if you are doing anything worthwhile, you will get noticed. If you want to increase your chance of success, increase your leadership skills.

Let me say this again; this does not happen in one quick step. Here are the steps I have discovered along the way. The first Step is to believe that you are doing something worthwhile. What you think matters. What you are doing matters. If you are not thinking or doing anything then even that matters. If you are not thinking; start. If you are not doing; start. Think and act upon the things that you believe are worthwhile. You may feel all alone in the beginning; this is OK, we all don’t think alike. Just get started and believe in what you are doing regardless if anyone helps you at this stage. I beg of you, do something positive. Don’t let life pass you by and all you are left with is sour grapes.

Step Two is to learn more about what you are doing. Search out information from experts. Scour the internet, go to the library, read a book, watch a “How to Program;” do what it takes to increase your knowledge of what you are doing! This is a very important step. You need to know when someone is snowing you, you need to know when someone is scamming you or promising you things they cannot deliver. This may have been one of the reasons you became a loner in the first place. Don’t be the person who talks without knowing; know what you are doing and what you are talking about.

Step Three is to get around people who are doing the things you are aspiring to do also. Learn from them and talk to them face to face. This is why Step One and Two are so important. You have to know that you are bringing your unique skill and style to the table and that you deserve a place at the table. You will become known for what you know and what you do. Do you better than anyone else can.

Step Four is to practice, practice and practice some more; both in a group and by yourself. Practice with the intention of continually getting better at what you do. Again, you must believe that what you are doing is worthwhile, and that you are good at what you do. You do not have to be perfect, you just have to be good and have your own style and your own ideas.

Step Five is to accept the fact that you need a mentor. This must be someone you can trust, and the best way to trust them is to know what you are doing and where you are going and to get around enough people so you know who is serious and who is just faking it. Find a mentor who is the real deal. Find someone you look up to and is not trying to feed you a line. This will help you grow even faster.

Step Six is to in turn mentor others. This is where you will really see why being a leader matters. You will get more done and you will learn more. Being a loner means it is harder to find new information and you have to learn by trial and error. Trial and error is an ok place to start in a safe environment, but you really want to excel, a strong team environment is the best place to learn and grow. Being a Leader inside of the group means you can help shape the vision and direction of the group and you can also help protect the group from people who are there to take advantage of others or to waste time.

Be the Real Deal. Know that what you are doing is worthwhile. Sometimes it seems like being a loner is the faster and easier way. It may seem like it at the start, but in the end; team work wins out. A strong team can carry a heavy load, can cover more ground and in the end will thrive. You can go from Loner to Leader; just follow the steps!

You can go from Loner to Leader!

Step One is to believe that you are doing something worthwhile.

Step Two is to learn more about what you are doing.

Step Three is to get around people who are doing the things you are aspiring to do also.

Step Four is to practice, practice and practice some more; both in a group and by yourself.

Step Five is to accept the fact that you need a mentor.

Step Six is to in turn mentor others.

From Loner to Leader:

Deal with reality.

Welcome to 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo. Give me please just a minute of your time to try to brighten your day. I know that life is not always the way we want it to be. Life is not fair, so we are left to deal with reality. You can do it. I can do it; in the end we have to do it. In the end we have to deal with reality.

Let’s say there are three versions of the life we lead. There is the life we want, the life we believe we can have and the life lead day in and day out. So what drives us? We all have a dream don’t we? More than hitting the lottery, if you could write you own life story, what would you write? The live you wish you had is what motivates you to chase your dreams. The life you believe you can have is where you think you will more than likely end up. Then there is the reality of your day to day life. The closer you can get those three visions to line up, the happier you will be. That is what I believe.

So, I ask you again. What is your dream life? If you could write it down on paper, what would you write? Now, I ask you this question. Do you think that the life you wish you have is possible? If the answer is yes, you are more than likely doing something every day to get closer to that life. If the answer is no, no you do not believe your dream life is possible; then you are still doing something, you are doing something to get you close to the life you believe you can have. If you truly believe you will hit the lottery you will buy lottery tickets; if you do not believe you will hit the lottery, you won’t buy lottery tickets. It is that simple. In the end you will do the things you believe you can get done, not the things you wish you can get done. Do you see where I am heading? Finding balance between your wishes, your beliefs and your reality are very important.

Why do people give up? Why do people seem to self-destruct?  I believe it is when people feel like they do not deserve anything better or more than what they already have. What they wish for is so far out of sight and what they believe is less than what they can really accomplish. This is a total loss of hope. Again, this is why I believe there is a need for balance in what you are wishing for, what you believe and your reality. Yes it all sounds so simple, and really it is just that simple.

It is easy to want the best in life. Advertisement agencies develop campaigns every day that you deserve the best. It doesn’t matter if it is fast food or luxury cars. You deserve the best. The only question is do you believe it? I am not talking about the angry customer who wants something for nothing. I am talking about the person who is happy with their life and their choices. Are you happy with your choices? Do you believe that you deserve the best? If so, it will be easier for you to deal with your reality.

We all have to deal with reality, but that does not mean we cannot change our reality. If it is possible then it is possible for us to be a part of it. If it is probable, then it is more than likely that we will try, at least once. So there is your possibility which might not happen; your probability, which will more than likely happen and your reality which is happening now. Things change because you apply your energy to change them. Either you change things or things will change you. If you do nothing, than slowly but surely life will pass you by and time will rob you not only of your dreams, but also of the things that you could have had. Time will rob you of your possibilities and your probabilities if you let it.

Now, people can also rob you of your dreams. People can be very negative and take away not only what is possible for you, but also take away what is probable for you. Let’s say you want to be a Singer but you are working at a deli. So maybe you are in line for a promotion at the deli, and maybe there is a tryout for a talent show. Negative people will convince not to try for either. They will tell you that you are dreaming and you need to know your place. Negative people have lost hope of their dream so they do not want to see you reach your dream. So not only will they kill your dream, that talent show tryout; they will kill your promotion at the deli also. You are the one who in the end will have to deal with the reality, either you tried or you let someone else talk you out of trying.

Deal with your reality. Believe in your dreams. Make sure the life you want and the life you believe you can have line up with your reality. Do not let negative people crush your dreams to the point where you no longer want to even try for the life you want. Make sure the life you believe you can have is better than the life you are already living. Bad things happen when you feel like you do not deserve the best in life.

Be the Real Deal

This is 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo.  I am here to challenge you.  I am here to ask you to stand up for what you believe.  I am not telling you what to believe.  Today I am challenging you to be the Real Deal.

Be the Real Deal.  If you really believe in something stand up for it.  If you are going to stand up for something, get your facts straight and be an inspiration to others.  State the facts; tell the truth and make a stand for what you believe!  That is what it takes to be the Real Deal!  Have I messed up in the past?  Yes, that is how I know what being the Real Deal is all about!

The first step in being the Real Deal is stating the facts.  So to do this you must get your facts straight.  To be the Real Deal you cannot send people off chasing rumors!  You need to know the difference between people who are telling lies, people who are just guessing and people who are speaking with real information or based on solid experience.  We live in a day and time when it is easy to get both sides of the story with just a simple search of the internet.  If you are dealing with two people who do not get along, listen to both sides of the story.  Then put them both in the same room and see who stands by their story.  Then ask around a little bit before you make up your mind.  Just because someone is popular does not make them right or wrong.  Same goes for the unpopular person.  Usually the truth cuts both ways not just one side or the other.  If you are the Real Deal, you would not want to fall for a scam or lead others into a bad situation.  Do what you can to find out the facts before you make up your mind.  Usually people will have data or information to verify their story not just rumors and accusations.

Be the Real Deal, tell the truth!  Step two in being the Real Deal is telling the truth!  Once you know the facts, you should make up your mind and stand for the truth.  Stand up for what is right.  This is not just saying it, I mean standing up for what you believe in; even if means you have to admit you were wrong or you screwed up.  If you messed up, fix it.  If you believe in something stand up for it.  Standing up for the truth is not only the right thing to do.  Standing up for the truth can be its own reward.  A lot of time, when the dust settles; the ones who stand up for the truth win in the end.  Don’t fall for the quick fix, the fast money or the fool’s gold.  Check your facts and stand up for the truth.

Stand up for what you believe.  Being the Real Deal means your story does not change based on who is in the room or what direction the wind is blowing.  I know a lot of people, and I mean a lot of people who will say one thing and then do another when you are not looking.  They may think they are slick, but they are not the Real Deal.  It is hard to make a line in the sand without getting your hands dirty at least once.  Standing up for what you believe may mean you may lose a few friends.  That is the price of being the Real Deal.  It means your story does not change based on what you think is popular with the people who are in front of you at the time.  Being the Real Deal means you keep your facts straight, you stand on the truth and your story does not change.  Being the Real Deal means you may have to make a stand with your back against the wall.  Might does not make right, the Real Deal believes the Truth is what makes you right!

Be the Real Deal!  Get your facts straight.  Be the Real Deal, tell the truth!  Be the Real Deal and stand up for what you believe!

See it then believe it.

Air and water; two things we cannot live long without.  Air and water are two of the most basic and most important things in our lives and yet we take them for granted.

How long can you hold your breath?  A minute, maybe two; without air we cannot last long.  If we only take one breath each minute we take in over a thousand breathes a day without out even thinking about it.  We just do it, even when we are sleeping we need air to live.  We need air to live and yet we pollute our air and we breathe in smoke for that quick rush.  Air itself can be that rush but we don’t see it; we don’t see it so we don’t believe it.

Water, how long can we last without water?  You will begin to feel thirsty in just a few hours, in a day you will be noticeably weaker if you do not drink water.  Pure water, the most basic liquid known to us and again we take it for granted.  When we have it, we don’t appreciate it.  We do not see water as a source of our strength so when we need a boost we drink in other things.  Soda Pop, Coffee, Alcohol give us that kick, that rush and yet we take water for granted.  We can live without Soda Pop or Coffee or Alcohol, but we cannot live without water.

We need to see Air and Water for what they are, the very foundation of our lives.  When we breathe we do not visualize the air that fills out lungs being transferred into our blood and carried into our cells throughout of body.  We just take air for granted, until we run out of it.  Go to a place when the air is thin or polluted and you will feel your lungs start to burn.  We take air for granted, but the lack of air can quickly cause us pain.  Give it a try; see how long you can hold your breath.  See how fast you miss something you take for granted.

Water, it is said we need 2 liters or a half of gallon of water every day.  Again, go a day without drinking anything.  No Water, No Soda Pop, No Coffee, No Tea, No Juice, No Milk; nothing.  See how long it takes for you to become thirsty.  See how long it takes for you to become weak.  Then take a drink of water, visualize the water as it travels down your throat and into your stomach.  Feel the power of a simple drink of water cleansing and energizing your body.

See it then believe it.  Air and water are two examples of things we need everyday but we take them for granted.  We do not picture them as things that make us strong; we do not picture them as things that can heal us.  We do not see air and water for what they are, the very basic building blocks of your life.  We do not see them as sources of healing and strength, we do not see them as gifts from God; but they are gifts from God.  The minute we do not have them, maybe then we will pray for them.  Appreciate them now!  See it and then believe it.

There may be other areas in your life that you may need to visualize and believe in before they are made manifest.  Things a little more complicated then air and water; but you need to appreciate them just the same.  See it, Believe it and realize what you want or need is a gift from God.

Finding It.

This may be the most confusing post I will ever attempt to explain in 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo.  I am going to try to explain It, so you can find It.  See here is the problem with It.  90% of people will not realize It when they see It.  And for those who sense they are seeing It, 90% of them will not believe It.  So you can see how hard It is to explain It when It is so hard to see and believe.

Now if you have It, you know what I am talking about.  If you don’t have It, you may be scratching you head and wondering what I am talking about.  Let me try to start over.  Some people have It, and they know It when the have It.  Some people see It but don’t believe they are seeing It because It is so rare to see.  Some people fake It so unless you have It, see It and believe It; you may not be able to tell when someone is faking It.  If you have It, It is easy to see when someone is faking It.

Ok, let me start over, again.  I can not force It and I can not make It happen.  I know It when I see It, so I can only show what is not It.  Now that may make you confused or frustrated or even angry; because someone you may have thought had It, was only faking It.  Now people who have It know It when they see It.  Again, you can’t force It; but you can set the table and maybe It shows up.

So, how can you find It if you can’t see It?  You can’t.  You have to see It and hopefully when you see It, someone who knows It will nod and smile and let you know that you have seen It while many other stand in disbelief that they saw It.  You see you have to know that you have seen It and someone will confirm It.  Now this get’s tricky because so many people will fake It and try to convince you that you are seeing It when you are not really seeing It.

Some people try to describe It to people who have never see It; and they best I have ever heard them do is say that some people have It whatever It is.  Does this sound confusing?  It is, It is hard to trust It if you have never seen It.  And It is even harder to trust It around people who are faking It.  You see, some people have It and lose and then they fake It to convince people they still have It after they lost It.  Are you following this?  If you have It, you know what I am talking about.  If you have seen It, then you know what I am talking about.  If you have seen It but did not believe It, or have never seen It; than I understand why this post is very confusing.  It is OK to stop and read this post over again.  I may have to read this a few times before I post It.  See I can not tell you this is It, because It may not be It.  You just have to figure It out.

You see It is like magic.  You can try to practice It, but if someone figures out that you are smoke and mirrors than you don’t have It.  Magic does happen, just like It happens; but you have to believe It happens and you have to see It to figure It out.  Then you can tell if what you are seeing is not It.  See It is magic, It is like a miracle; and miracles do happen.

Now even though you may practice It, even though you may have It; you can not force It.  And even if you nail It when you try to show It, sometimes people will still not believe It.  Sometimes people will believe those who are faking It, which makes It harder to see It in the first place.  So how do you find It?  First you have to be looking for It.  You will know when you don’t see It.  So you have to learn how to figure out when you see It and someone is not faking It.  You will know you are seeing something special, but you may not believe It.  By the time you believe It, It may be too late.  See It is fleeting, like fame.  Famous people try to hold It long after It is gone.  And because you may have seen someone who used to have It, you may think they still have It, even if they are faking and forcing It; which of course is not It.  So to find It you have to stay true to It.  You have to look for It, believe in It, practice It and not force It or fake It.  When you see It, someone else who knows It will confirm It; but be careful you are not being conned into see It when It is not really there.

See I can not show It to you, because I can not force It.  I can only confirm you have seen It, if I am there when you see It and I see It also.  See if we both see It then I can confirm It.  You may think you have seen It, but if I miss It; than I can not confirm It.  But, you will know It.  Then the next time you see It, I will more than likely see It also as long as we are both where It is.  You can plan to look for It, but that does not guarantee you will find It when you are looking for It.  It may show up when you least expect It.

That’s the best I can do.  Print this out if you have to.  Read It every day under you really understand what I am say about It.  It is out there, but you can not force It to show up.  It will show up when It is ready, but you have to be ready to see It when It shows up.  You have to be ready to see It and believe It.  No smoke, no mirrors, no faking It, no forcing It.  You will know It when you see It.  So all I can say is, Go Find It!

Standing up for what you believe in is the right thing to do.

It can be scary sometimes.  Is it the peer pressure or the fear of being rejected?  Maybe it’s the fear of losing your job or losing your friends.  Standing up for what you believe in can be a scary thing, but it is the right thing to do.

So do you have it in you?  Do you stand up for what you believe in even if it means you might lose a few friends?  Do you stand up for what you believe in, even if your job is on the line?  Yes it is a scary thing, but it is the right thing.

Are short cuts really short cuts?  Are cover ups worth it?  Sooner or later the truth does come out, it just depends on who gets caught holding the bag.  If you are the kind of person who just goes with the flow, you really are not standing for what you believe in, because sooner or later the flow will go against what you believe.

The popular choice is not always the right choice.  The fastest way is not always the best way.  If you really stand up for something, sooner or later you will be at the crossroads.  Will you go out of your way; will you go down a road you really do not want to go down, just because you may lose a few friends?  Let me let you in on a little secret.  If your friends can not respect your beliefs; then they are really not your friends.

Standing up for what you believe in can be a very scary thing; but it is the right thing to do.  Hopefully you are standing up for the truth.  Hopefully you are standing up for what is right.  Yes it can be scary, but you have to believe it is the right thing.  What if standing up for the right thing puts your job on the line, would you do it then?  It is easier to go with the flow when your income may be affected.  It would be easier to bury your head in the sand and hope it passes you over; but if you really believe in something, if you really think it is the right thing to do than stand up for what you believe.

Notice, please notice that all the way through this post, I have never once tried to tell you what to believe.  I can not break down people’s belief systems, I can only pray you are in the pursuit of the truth.  Once again, I am not telling you what the truth is or what to believe.  I don’t know what it is; I never got the “Yes Man” DNA.  I never was able to never question or never second guess or never read a little deeper.  For some reason I look for patterns, I need conformation, I look for common ground and some sort of agreement, and then when someone violates that common ground; I think something is a miss.  I think someone is missing when people switch sides and switch position based on who is or is not in the room.  See that is a sure sign of going with the flow, or not really standing up for what you believe; or at least it is a sign for me.

So I can’t tell you that standing up for what you believe in is going to be easy, I think it will be scary.  I think that doing the right thing will be rewarded in the end.  You see I did the wrong thing plenty of times, and it never seemed to pay off.  I have also learned that everything you don’t double check seems to come back to haunt you.  So somewhere in all of this I have learned that doing the right thing in the short-term may seem like its own reward, but I think in the end; doing the right thing will be rewarded.  I have to believe that what Reap what we Sow.  I believe what goes around comes around.  I believe in Karma or lack thereof leads to Nirvana.  I believe that we can call it many things, but in the end we will find out it is all the same thing.  So I believe that Standing up for what you believe is the right thing to do.  And I think each of us has a duty to analyze our belief system.  I think we all have to figure it out for ourselves.

See you can never really figure out where you stand if all you ever do is go with the flow.  I think that if you only wait to see what the popular choice or the powerful choice is you are bending your will to someone else’s will.  Me personally I believe in God, and that our spirit can tell us what is right and what is wrong.  This is only me, believe what you will; but for heaven’s sake, stand up for what you believe.  Double check you own belief, think twice, verify, and meditate, pray, whatever you need to do.  Just stand for what you believe.  I am convinced it is the right thing to do.

If you do not believe in what you are doing:

How are you going to convince someone else to believe in what you are doing?  Yes here we go again.  That circular question that is asked some many times here are 60 Seconds of Motivational Mojo.  If you do not believe in what you are doing; how are you going to convince someone else to believe in what you are doing?  I have a quick question for you.  Are you working your dream job?  Are you living the dream?  Are you chasing your dreams?  If the answer is “No” then really, what advice can you give to someone else?

Most of us are not living our dream life; most of us are chasing a false reality we see on Television and in the Movies.  Most of us are not happy with our job, but we don’t try to do something in our spare time that will free us from our job.  And if you were doing something that would free you from a job you don’t like, wouldn’t you go at it like gangbusters, like Ghostbusters, like any other busters?  Listen, maybe I am failing in my attempt to be funny, but most people do not like what they are doing; yet our advice to almost everyone is to go to school, get a job and work hard.  Our advice should be; learn the truth, chase your dreams and work smart.

I am convinced, that is why every other day of so you see a new post in this blog.  Sometimes I can write 3 or 4 in one day, but I wait to post them – one here, one there every other day.  Why?  I am convinced that over time I can make a difference in this crazy world.  Are you convinced about what you are doing?  If you do not believe in what you are doing, how are you going to convince someone else to believe in what you are doing?  If people were convinced about what they were doing the world would be a happier place!  How many people do you know that are really happy?  Tell the truth!

Why is the world not a happy place?  Every day you here about records being broken and people getting rich, then why do we live in such a tragic world?  The world is full of good news and bad news every day, yet people choose to spread the bad news.  Can’t anyone have some good news?  Can’t people have a stretch goal, a big dream or crazy harmless fun?  Why are so many people freaking out and losing their minds?  I think because people are not convinced that what they are doing is going to change anything.  I think most people just go with the flow until they can’t take it anymore.

Believe in what you are doing, or try to spend 15 minutes a day looking for something you can believe in.  Find out the facts and ask questions until you find out the truth.  Be convinced!  Be convinced that you can have a big dream.  Be convinced that you can make a difference.  Be convinced that you can be happy.  Then go out there and reach for the stars!
